I can honestly say that I don’t know who the best team in college football is 8 full weeks into the season
It took blocked field goals and whacked out penalty calls on the Vols for Bama to beat them 12-10 at home, really? Most of the country feels like Bama is the best team in the land and they can’t throw the football, they have a horrible red zone offense and their QB is not very good. UCLA went into Knoxville and beat the Vols, enough said
Florida had another sloppy win and Tebow looked below average, I don’t know what is wrong with the Gators but something is, that offense isn’t looking very good right now and they have some injuries, they need to get healthy and figure out the offense if they expect to win another title
Auburn has absolutely fallen off the earth, they aren’t only bad now, they can’t even move the football on offense. They made a mediocre LSU squad look very good, but don’t let that game confuse you LSU Tiger fans. Les and Co. aren’t scaring anyone; they are still an average team.
Oregon St. turned out to be any easy cover against the Trojans. USC got their revenge but I have to give a lot of credit to the Beavers who out gained the Trojans and had more first downs. It isn’t very often teams can accomplish that when playing at USC. Riley has done a fantastic job with that team this season and they are playing their best football right now when it matters most.
I backed Arizona this week against UCLA not knowing that Folk had the flu, he didn’t perform that well but the Bruins are so bad it didn’t matter. Rick and Norm have a lot of work to do with those QB’s. They were good enough to win @ Tennessee but that doesn’t help them when playing against Pac-10 teams that actually have offenses. It will be a long last half of the season for Bruin fans. They have to travel to Oregon St this weekend and that won’t be an easy task.
Idaho oh Idaho finally failed to cover the number and did so in blowout fashion. Nevada just poured it on the Vandals with 70 points. The Vandals luckily host La Tech this coming Saturday so they should get back to the winners circle. La Tech hasn’t won a conference road game since I was about 4 years old and that was a long time ago.
Uconn gave a gutsy performance and showed a lot of heart in Morgantown. They just forgot one key ingredient when facing West Virginia. Don’t let Noel Devine get loose in the open field because he won’t stop running until he feels like it. The players have to travel to Miami to their fallen teammates’ funeral on Monday and then head back home for another conference game. Luckily they get to host Butt-gers and that travesty of a running game the Scarlet Knights have. Rutgers couldn’t establish a running game against Army, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, okay now my stomach hurts
Were the oddsmakers serious with the Pitt/USF line? For the 2nd straight week I have faded USF and loved it. Pitt completely owned them and I fully expect South Florida to go in the tank like they are known for this time of year. If I never see that coach of theirs acting a fool on the sidelines again them I’m good.
Watching the Iowa/Michigan St. game was worse than getting a triple bypass done. Michigan St. drives down the field with nice precision to take the lead and they decide to play a prevent defense with 2 minutes left? Iowa couldn’t score on them all game and Stanzi couldn’t take that team down the field in under 2 minutes if he had Randy Moss. Why go away from the defense that had you leading in the first place? What a terrible coaching job by Michigan State’s staff. Iowa escapes with another win and keep the dreams alive of an undefeated season. It could just happen because the Big 10 is a joke. Iowa is the only likeable team in that conference for me but watching them run around the field leaves me wondering if they have 4 lbs of lead tape in their shoes, they may be the slowest top 5 team off all time.
Christian Ponder is the best college quarterback I have seen all season. He has a great arm, he is accurate, he can run and he makes great decisions. It is too bad he is on a team that can’t play defense and he is surrounded by undisciplined idiots. UNC should have won and covered that game. Florida St couldn’t stop them from running the ball all night, they had a huge lead at home and TJ Yates tries a stupid roll out throw to the end zone to give FSU all the momentum. The rest is history from there. Butch never could beat Bowden and he once again proves that. That is what I get for trying to outsmart the oddsmakers and adding UNC last minute. It should have won but it was a stupid bet on my part.
Quack Attack just handed the Huskies a major ass kicking. After losing their opening game to Boise St and losing their best offensive player the Ducks have quietly won all of their games and are easily a top 10 team. They host the Trojans in what should be the game of the week in college football. The winner has a legit chance of winning the conference. The Ducks control their own destiny. Chip Kelly has done a fantastic job with that team and I think I have to retract my statement that he was in over his head. He is clearly proving that theory wrong.
