Greetings Fellas,

I recently graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelors degree in Sport Management.  I decided this year that this is not the field for me.  The reason for this is that there is simply no money.  I mean if I want to spend 10 years washing athletes jockstraps, then maybe I will be promoted to something that pays $40k per year.  Thats it.  I'm looking to get a job somewhere else, really anywhere that I can get my feet in the door and be given the opportunity to work my way up to a high salary by the time I am 28ish.  Does anybody have any sugguestions as to how you can just get a start in the working world?  I don't know anybody who can hook me up with a sick job, and my dad is pretty much a deadbeat who I do not aspire to be like at all.  The clear way to succeed in today's world is to know somebody, but without that luxury, what is the best way to get a good start in the real world?  Thanks in advance to everyone who responds!

Ever think of going back to school to get a masters in a field that you desire?  It will require 2 extra years of school, but most masters such as marketing, finance (i.e. MBA - finance), etc do not have any pre-requisites . . . then, you open many more doors plus you have a masters.

for instance, i know someone who got an accounting undergrad degree but hated accounting, they then decided to go back and get a masters in school psychology (in order to qualify for program only required one semester of undergrad classes) then took 2 years of advanced degree and got their masters and now are a certified school psychologist and landed a job in a school district.

You might find a lot more doors open for you if you get a masters in your choice field.  Sure it means two more years of school and more debt.  But, if you like marketing, get a marketing masters.  if you like law, go to law school.  getting a job with just sports management in business may be tougher.  not impossible, but tougher.  just my two cents.

I'm a sport mgmt. major also, but my school is one of the best for it.  Lots of opporunities for quality internships and I am through 2 years and next year I have an 'in' for an internship with the Penguins, and then the final semester of school will be an internship (probably somewhere else) so I am hoping by then to have enough contacts and experience to get an ok starting job.
