8 Best Young Golfers on the Planet

Now that we can officially say that Tiger is a non-factor on tour for at least the short term I thought it would be interesting to take a look at golf after Tiger and who will be dominating the tour in 10-15 years from now.  Here's my list... feel free to add a name or two:

8. Rickie Fowler (21) - USA - Think Freddy Couples and all the back troubles. His swing may not hold up for the long term.

7. Shane Lowry (23) - Ireland - The Irish version of Colin Montgomerie?

6. Jason Day (22) - Australia - He'll hover around the Top 25 in the world for a long time.  He's got all the tools.

5. Jordan Spieth (16) - USA - This kid will be brought along slowly but he's got the game already.  There won't be a repeat of the Ty Tryon mistakes with Spieth.

4. Ryo Ishikawa (18) - Japan - A final round 58 on the Japanese Tour.  Incredible talent.

3. Rory McIlroy (21) - N. Ireland - He's got it all.  Distance, touch and a winner's mind-set.

2. Matteo Manassero (18) - Italy - I don't know what it is about this guy... oh yeah... it's that perfect swing.

1. Dustin Johnson (25) - USA

Long bomber with silky hands tops the list.  He's the future of golf and has a win in each of his first three years on tour after finishing a great collegiate career at Coastal Carolina University.  Mickelson, Nicklaus and Butch Harmon have been raving about this guy's game.

What about Adam Scott or Sergio? Are they too old to be considered?

Not if you think they'll be dominating in 10-15 years. They certainly have the talent but I've lost too much money on those two over the last few years. I'm building my bankroll on these 8.

Nice list Z. As an avid golfer, it makes me sad to know that a 16-year-old could kick my ass. But I guess the Pros that didn't make the cut last week at the Byron Nelson should feel even worse.

I would definitely say Scott and Serg are much too old to be on this list. They were up-and-comers about five years ago, maybe more for Garcia.

Leaving out Anthony Kim is blasphemy.

nice list - what are the odds usually on these guys in tournaments now? are they all real big long shots, or are bettors starting to catch on to them?

Nice list Z. I really don't see any of those guys "dominating" like Eldrick once did. Not only was he superior in his golf game, but his mental stranglehold he had over the other guys will never be seen again. If they saw his name on top of the leaderboard, they all knew it was over. Really doubt that type of dominace will ever be seen again.

Very good list... to the guy that asked about Sergio or Adam Scott.....they are not the future of the game and neither may ever win a major. Adam Scott was luck to win earlier this year or would be running out of exemptions. Sergio is running out of exemptions and soon will be off the tour. As far as the list, I agree with #1 but 2 through 10 I would juggle around a little bit. But great list and great insight on golf.

Maybe I am just a big fan of his, but I would like to think that Ricky Fowler is placed too low. Or maybe I am just a fan of the fact that he is something that the PGA tour needs badly. A fast player who is becoming a fashion icon almost before he is becoming known to the casual PGA follower. Maybe I am just a pompous American that is hoping for another up and comer to be from the States.....whatever the reason, I am a Fowler fan. Good list Zarley ( also something I like as I am from Pittsburgh and a fan of the ex Penguin), I just hope your wrong about his back bro.

Good feedback guys. I think n3gative was right. Probably should've included Kim. He's been on tour for so long I forgot that he is still only turning 25 next month. Martin Kaymer Matt Hill and Danny Lee also have a chance to knock someone off this list, but overall I'm pretty happy with these 8 guys.

Feel free to add a few more names that should be considered.

Glad to see you found a spot for Jason Day. Huge talent and nice kid. May just prove to be the best Aussie golfer since the Shark.
