Is Miami the most overrated team in recent history?

They beat up on Ga Tech...a team who plays one good quarter at most per football game. They came back to beat FSU at FSU. Those are two solid wins. However, since when do teams burst into the top 5 without paying their dues. Its time for Miami to pay their dues and Virginia Tech is playing the role of bill collector. The fact that they're favored is a testament to their potential. Right now VT is the better program and I don't think Miami is ready to step up to that level quite yet. After they get their asses handed to them by Tech and subsequently Oklahoma, I think they will get headed towards being a legitimate top 5 program heading into next season. These kids have the potential but they aren't there yet.

VT+3 and ML all day.

how do you figure they are over rated??? They bet FSU in probably the most exciting game we will see all year....and then FSU goes out and just hammers BYU....Miami is back. And the last post i ready said the same thing. People are saying VT was looking past the Huskers and thats just crazy. Huskers always a have a good D but VT barly up up points on offence...Im a Husker fan and i would say that Miami's D is faster and better then the Huskers, plus they have a pretty good offence.

VT all day long??? I truely believe Miami comes out to prove a point and wins this game.

Miami -3 but will probably buy the hook to -2.5

as always good luck

They are getting way too much hype too early...... But if they can squeak by VT and Okla, then I would re-think the whole overrated scenario..... Miami has lots of speed and talent and with the addtition of Mark Whipple.... Well, you've seen the offense so far...

Well, they handed me my first NCAAF loss on thursday (though it was only .25 unit), so I have to hand that to them.

That said, I don't know what we're seeing with this team. For the moment, I'm staying on the sidelines -- if they can win on saturday, it will go a long way in making the team legit.

Most overrated team in recent history?  Come on that has to be a joke.  I believe it was just 2 years ago that UConn was ranked #10 in the country before showing their true colors and ultimately settling for a game in the toilet bowl.

Everyone knew this Miami team would be much improved... the question was HOW MUCH.  This defense looks extremely fast... their offense can put up points.  If they go into Blacksburg and put up 3 td's... it will be difficult for Tech to win this game.  Seeing Tech as a home dog sure is scary... but Miami looks like the real deal.  If they win this game... they are no overrated at all... and have a huge game against Okalahoma next week which could give them a shot at the BCS ship with win...

I would say most overhyped maybe not overrated. Season still has a way to go. But yes it seems everybody is in love with Miami. I do believe they come back to earth against VT.

I see these next two weeks as a great situation to play against the Canes.  First, you take the three for a normal sized wager with the Hokies on Saturday.  If VT wins than you take the money and run.  However, if the Canes pull through in Blacksburg, well that's going to set up a great situation to play against them again the following week when they host Oklahoma (you'll probably be able to take OU as a dog).  So you would then make an even bigger bet on the Sooners if Miami covers this weekend.  Essentially you're making two bets here.

"Paying their dues"??? Isn't Miami the only team this season to beat 2 ranked teams? Based on your logic, Why is Mississippi ranked #4? Look at whom they have beaten this season. Memphis and SE Louisiana.

To answer your question, "No".

Id rather have a team catapulted up in the rankings by actually winning games rather then when these idiots in the polls keep teams around after they lose games based on all of their preseason prejudices

Actually I would have to say South Florida 2 years ago was the most overrated team in recent history... What was they up to #2 after beating AU and a few other decent teams...The reason Miami is getting all this hype is becaues of who they beat and who the teams they beat beat... Meaning FSU destroying a #8 BYU teams helps Miami a whole lot...

yea fsu blew out byu.. but almost lost to james madison lmao!!byu was another over hyped team that only beat oklahoma because brafford got hurt and they had a true freshman in his 1st game, a game he wasnt even expected to play in, which made it even more tuff on him .

no way byu beats oklahoma if brafford dont get hurt

miami will lose this week..

James Madison??? FSU almost lost to Jacksonville State, the Division II team that Ryan Perrilloux now plays for....And before Bradford got hurt Oaklahoma was getting beat
so there is no way you can say for certain they would have
won if Bradford would have not gotten hurt... You can
assume and if they was up by a large magin and lost it
after he got knocked out I would agree but they was not..

We'll never know how good they are until they play Charleston Southern. Top 15 teams are no way to judge.........

I'm already on MIAMI for 3 units. They are getting hyped, but they are not overated... Blacksburg will be rocking come 3:30pm SAT!  Home field advantage is OVERATED... These are bigtime college football players who will thrive in that enviroment.

Man I swear noone reads anything but the subject. I like Miami. I think they are talented. I also think that judging them as being title contenders for what they've done for 2 games is fools gold. They've beaten two teams with great offensive efforts from a qb who hasn't had to move around the pocket at all. If you go to espn360.com  and watch any of the first two games you will see that the guy might as well be throwing passes from a pitcher's mound in those games. VT is not going to let that happen. Now, its Jacory Harris for Heisman and the U is back? Them guys have played two good and exciting games. #2 in the country? Come on man.

I was super confused about the U being favorites in blacksburg(this just doesn't happen). Then I read this comment thread. I might not be right about this game but at least now I can see why the line is -3. I gotta be honest I think the uniform is garnering too much respect. If Mississippi State had those two results against GT and FSU they would be dogs. Michael Irvin, Bennie Blades, and Gino Torretta and walking through that tunnel on Saturday.

Can't wait for this game.

So they need to get their asses whipped before they get to the next level? Kinda' like saying you need to flunk your exam before you can graduate. Where's the confused face icon when you need one?

I think over-rated is really a mis-use of that word in this case for sure,over-rated shall only be used when talking about usc trojans or psu lions, but will agree with the hokies pick, against the canes.HOKIES IS THE PICK,ALONG WITH OREGON STATE IN A LAUGHER.
SCOOPYDEW says:

No because the most over rated teams of all time is Ohio St and Notre Dame every year

Yeah, they are overrated.  No ACC team belongs in the top 10 until they beat a good SEC team.  How is that to ya!!!

Virginia Tech is still trying to find out who they are.  Offensive line is not in sync.  I like Williams, but they really have no power back.  And if I was the Offensive Coordinator for VT I would not call a set pass play, I would let Tyrod improvise, play streetball, and find a receiver.  Seems like that is what works for him.

I have been researching this game.  Basically VT has to have two things happen for them to win the game on Saturday.  They need to shut down the run.  Javaris James is probably licking his chops right now.  And they need the Miami QB to have an off day.  After looking everything over, I can see why people are betting Miami.  Not really because of who they beat, but because it looks like they know what the hell they are doing out there.  VT hasn't figured that out yet.  Doubt they will find out within a week either.

Even though everyone is pounding Miami, I like them.  As long as they don't turn the ball over and play half decent, they should be able to get out of there with a win.
