we get it...the SEC is good football conference

Every time a team outside of the SEC plays a good game we have to hear "durr that wouldn't happen against an SEC team durr". When SEC teams win its cuz the SEC is the greatest entity since the dawn of the universe. If an SEC team loses...just sweep it under the rug like it didn't happen. I swear SEC fans are starting to remind me of all those dads who think their daughters are waiting for marriage.

SEC is a great football conference. But lets put the pedastal away

Is your sarcasm directed at the  conference or the fans?

Not that good of a football conference, seeing as their record against the Pac-10 in the last decade is a losing one I believe...

How many of the National Champions have come from the SEC, i believe the last 3.  But i do agree it's on a pedastal.

UCLA is a bottom 3 or 4 Pac-10 team... Tennessee is supposedly a middle-tier SEC team...

why is it Tennessee can't beat UCLA on their home turf, and lost to them at UCLA last year?

i think at the very least, the statement "it' can't be denied" is bullshit!

get them off the pedestal is right!

Dustin,
I'm just a college football fan in general. I'm from D.C so I route for D.C kids but I have no interest in one team or conference. I'm just sick of SEC fans in general. We in the rest of country would like to thank the SEC for blessing us with its presence. Where would football be without the SEC fighting the good fight to give us good football.

without the SEC, who is gonna do all the queer-chasin' and beatin'...?

Whenever the mountain west started taking football seriously and starting wearing suits to football games and paying their players the most.

Yeah, I am a bit sick of all the love for the SEC.

I mean, if the teams play well it's all we hear about, and if they play poorly it is always some excuse like changing time zones, or the teams "beat each other up," or injuries, or something.

It seems like for most college fans, SEC teams can't lose -- they can only win or there is some good reason why it didn't happen.

S E C  is  a  tough conference  with a  pretty  good  number  of

national level  programs and the other  programs are usually  close behind. and  cycle in an out of really  good  teams.

They  all  end  up  beating  up  on  each  other and wearing down

each  other  but  year end/year out  the  SEC is a  tough conference.

That being  said, I think we  can  all agree  that  the Big 10 is the most pretentious ! ! !   Why not  start a  thread about  that  conference.

We can start a thread about the big 10 as soon as they start piping up too. Talking trash about the big 10 now would be jumping on the pile.

But while we're at it lets talk about how easy it is to recruit in the southeast. There is only one sport in that region(lets be honest bball is a distant 2nd) and only 10-12 big time schools.

In the southeast(tennessee to virginia to florida to louisiana) there isn't much going on when it comes to sheer number of d1 college football programs. That a wide swath of the country thats only repped by about 15 schools. In big 10 country(Ohio,Indiana,Michigan, Illinois,Minnesota,Wisconsin,Pennsylvania,Iowa) its a bit of a smaller area with many more schools being represented and other sports are huge besides football.

I'm not exactly saying that is the reason why the SEC has had so much more success so much as I'm pointing out that if it was the case all the chest beating from SEC fans would be a little less warranted.

And calling the big 10 pretentious? Yep thats what I think of when I think of people from ohio and Michigan. If by pretentious you mean simple living hard working folks(like they are in most of SEC country) then I'm with you. On the other hand going to football games in suits and calling them cocktail parties is pretentious.

Actually, for this decade, the Pac-10 has the best record vs all other BCS conf. teams.............even when you remove USC from the equation.

It's funny..........the SEC says they beat up on each other so they don't schedule tough OOC games..........& the SEC fans don't bat an eye when one SEC team loses to a dog in conf. play. But when it happens to USC (who owns the SEC) then it's "USC is overrated!! They lost to a crappy P10 team!"

 It's funny how perception works.........

THEMUGG says:

I stand corrected..........the P10 would still be above .500 w/o USC, but not have the best record.

Interesting observation however I  think the recruiting pool is more  difficult in the South East than  you  think.

Here is  a  breakdown  of  states involved and their  populations.

Big Ten -  11  TEAMS    cover  8  states  69,000,000  pop

SEC -       12  TEAMS  cover   9 states    52,000,000 pop

You  could  argue  that in the SEC  there  are 5-6   perrenial

national  programs in the SEC   ....   I  really  cant  put  my  finger  on  the  number  of  perrenial national  programs in  the  Big 10 .....  If  you  say only  Michigan and  Ohio State  ,,  I  would  wonder how  good  those  teams  would  be today if  they  played  the   SEC week in -week out.

I'm  sorry,  my  spelling  ois  not  so  good  in  the  deep south ,,,,  I  meant  to  say

I  would  wonder how  good  those  teams  would  be today if  they  played  the   SEC weak in -weak out.

The Southeastern Conference had 263 players on the 2007 National Football League opening day active rosters, which led all conferences.

The Atlantic Coast Conference was second with 238 players, followed by the Big Ten with 234 players, Pac-10 with 183 players, Big 12 with 176 players and the Big East with 84 players.

Among SEC schools, Georgia was first with 37 former players on NFL rosters, followed by Tennessee with 36, LSU with 33, Florida with 31 and Auburn with 30. Alabama had 21 players on NFL rosters, while South Carolina had 19, Ole Miss and Mississippi State had 17 each, Arkansas had 12, Kentucky six and Vanderbilt with five.

The SEC had five of its schools with 30-or-more-players on NFL rosters. No other conference had two.

Nationally, Miami (Fla.) leads with 46 former players on NFL rosters, followed by Ohio State with 44, Florida State with 41, Tennessee with 36 and Georgia with 35.

The lists do not include players who were not on opening day rosters and since been activated.

This is also the correct answer for 2005 and 2006. I do not have information about previous years
