Underdog of the year, plus UFN plays.....

2010 MMA:   14 - 15,     + 11.78 units

I got crushed at UFC 114, and then I was out of town golfing during 115, so I just took the whole event off, good thing too 'cuz I liked Thiago.  For my underdog of the year (FWIW: my only other underdog of the year was Leonard Garcia +160 a couple of years ago v.s. Jens Pulver and Garcia KO'd him in the first couple of minutes), I got:

Shane Carwin +160 (5 units to win 8 units)....I'm normally a 1 unit bettor with the ocasional 2 unit wager here and there, but I absolutely love this value, unbelievable too me that he is offered this high.  I honestly would take this at +120!!  Maybe that makes me an idiot, but I think this fight is a toss-up, perhaps even Carwin a 55% fav to win this.  Just so many variables against Brock.  Lesnar's layoff certainly favors Carwin, while Brock has been away from the ocatgon battling a career and even life-threating disease, Carwin has been training his ass off.  And it showed in his dismantling of Mir.  Carwin has had two different camps preparing for Brock only to be dissapointed and have the fight postponed, now, in his third camp, he definitely will have a gameplan, considering he's spent an awful lot of time prepping for this fight over the last year.

Brock is still so "green" when it comes to MMA.  He is bigger than everybody, and that is really his only advantage.  His size/strength advantage has been huge in his previous UFC fights and that won't be the case in the fight.  While he still owns the advantage over Carwin, it is not enough to win this fight on that alone.  If he is able to take Shane down, Carwin has the wrestling ability and strength to get back up, which is something Brock hasn't seen in an opponent yet.  Not to mention, Carwin is by far the best striker Brock has ever faced, so when he shoots on Carwin, if Brock isn't aware of the strike, it will be lights out for him.  All of Brocks previous opponents lacked KO power, Carwin has it in every one of his limbs.

I love the fact that Carwin is actually the more experienced fighter for the first time in his career.  Although this fight isn't likely to be a long grueling war, experience is still  nice to have on our side.

I also like the fact that every single second that these two fighters are standing, pretty much favors Carwin.  Now, I'm not saying Brock can't land a big shot standing up, but I do think he isn't very likely do so.  Carwin hits hard, very hard.  I think Brock will find that out rather early.  Carwin by TKO, 1st round!!!

For UFC Fight Night:

Hammil -140 (1.4 units to win 1 unit)

Leben +300 (1 unit to win 3 units)

will likely add a couple more...

Good luck ya'll !!!!!!

I am going to see this fight live in Vegas!!! I am very excited!

This fight is very tough to call.  Lesnar is going to be incredibly tough to knock out.  His cardio is also amazing (he routinely worked 20-30 minute matches in the WWE).  Yes, I know it is not the same as fighting for 25 minutes in the octagon, but cardio is something we all need to consider.  This is a 5 round championship match.  We have yet to see a Carwin fight enter the 2nd round.

I still have not made a decision on this one just yet...

Thanks Doctor, glad to hear you're on my side!!

Moneyshot

MR219-  I'm very jealous of you.  That atmosphere is going to be absolutely sick, and there are some nice bouts on the undercard as well.  However, I don't think Lesnar will be incredibly tough to KO.  We haven't really seen his chin get tested, and with Carwin, it's much more than a "test."  I don't think his WWE cardio is very relevant to the octagon.  Before the Mir fight, Carwin's trainers raved about Shane's cardio, and afterall, it's not his fault nobody can last more than 4 minutes with him.  Despite his size, Brock is human, and Carwin can certainly hurt him.  BUT, I've been wrong before, good luck with whatever you decide and enjoy Vegas!

nice write-up and reasoning BENSE..

GL with your play, i like carwin also..  i dont think it will be a 1st round KO but i do think carwin wins this fight...

Lesnar may have the best cardio of all the heavyweights, but it doesn't help his chin one bit.  There isn't a single fighter who could survive multiple shots from Carwin's fists.

RichardA- I agree, that's what's got me on this one so big, the +160 is very generous in my mind.

Phillyfan- Thanks, good luck to you as well!!

Johnboy85- If cardio plays a role in this fight, then I was wrong on my prediction.  I could still win, but my predicition would be wrong.  Your second sentence is why I'm so big on Carwin.

Good luck ya'll !!!

Izzo is staying, not sure if anybody in this forum gives a shit about that or not, but it made my fuckin' day.  MSU will be a beast in college hoops next year and probably the next 10 or 15 years with his committment to the school !!!!

i'd love to hear why you are high on Leben. He has looked old in his last few fights, and I am not sure he has grown at all as a fighter. Simpson didn't look too impressive against Lawlor, but I think he can handle Leben here.

And i like you Hammill and Carwin plays, and good luck with all 3 of them.

I also like Attonito, Cammozzi, and maybe Siver

You know I care.  He had me scared for a good week. We will continue to be a national powerhouse for years to come!

.....and we get to bet on them as well.

Adding:

Kris McCray +170 (1 unit to win 1.7 units)

I'm not real confident in Leben, I just like the value.  At 3-to-1, I think he is worth a unit.  I'm not sold on Simpson and Leben supposedly has this new "committment" to MMA.  If this fight stays standing, I love the value I'm getting, if Simpson is able to take him down at will, it's gonna be tough.  Leben has power in those punches and he has proven his chin is tough as hell, I think he's got a shot at catching Simpson.

Final Card for the TUF Finale:

Hammill -140 ( 1.4 units to win 1 unit)

Leben +300 (1 unit to win 3 units)

McCray +170 (1 unit to win 1.7 units)

C'Mon Baby !!!!!

TUF Finale:

2-1 + 3 units, McCray was a waste of money, he was "star-struck" being in front of the lights, he kept looking at himself on the in-house TV during his introduction, I wish I could have canceled my wager after seeing that.

Updated 2010 Record:

Adding another for 116:

Akiyama by 3 round decision +314 (1 unit to win 3.14 units).....Leben is very tough to stop, but he always looks gassed halfway into the 1st round.  I could see these two standing and trading, with Akiyama having the more crisp stand-up while Leben is throwing those big looping shots.  As long as Leben doesn't connect with a big one, I like this value!!

Only 6 more days

bense197969 says:
06/29/10 11:10AM

Added a few more (gonna have a big card, don't know if that's good or bad) :

Sotiropolous -210 (2.1 units to win 1 unit)....Ouch, I don't like laying juice like this and I just missed out on the -180, but I think George will dominate Pellegrino.

Tuchsherer +260 (1 unit to win 2.6 units)....This is strictly a value bet, as I don't see Schaub as being a -300 HW.  This line is a common overreaction to Schaub's TUF success.

Soszynski/Reljic parlay (1 unit to win 1.33 units)....Bonnar is just a punching bag and Reljic should be able to take Grove down at will and control him with wrestling.

I may still another wager or two, good luck ya'll

bense197969 says:
06/30/10 10:08AM

Holy shit !!!  Carwin all the way down to +110/Brock -130 at 5dimes, I really don't want to hedge my biggest underdog bet of the year, but shit, if this continues to drop, I may have to think about it.

Akiyama is not the dog hes -205 right now wich makes him the favorite i like Leben anyway.

Check the post date, it was posted when Akiyama was fighting Wandy.

I also like Leben over Akiyama at those odds

2010 MMA:  17 - 17,   +15.97 units

Updated UFC 116 Card:

Carwin +160  (5 units to win 8 units)

Akiyama by 3 round decision +314 (1 unit to win 3.14 units)

Sotiropolous -210 (2.1 units to win 1 unit) (I got a horrible line here)

Tuchsherer +260 (1 unit to win 2.6 units)

Sosynski/Reljic Parlay (1 unit to win 1.33 units)

I think I'm done for this one, kinda like Lytle, but want a better price.  If Brock somehow, someway gets to +money by tommorrow I may hedge and take the free money, but I don't think we're gonna see much better than -120 on him.  The predicitions I've been reading thus far online slightly favor Lesnar, but it's split pretty evenly.  I still think Shane is gonna connect with a big one and finish him.  But I've been wrong before !

Good luck everybody, should be a great night of fights
