Wyclef Jean called for action from the working class, to donate currency to aid in relief,,,,,,,,,,,,,,from high atop his ivory tower

Of course he did, that is the courtesy that current presidents extend to former presidents in times of Crisis

it is a courtesy?  kind of like it brought a tear to someone's high how nice it was to see Haiti be able to ask the U.S for help?

good god what planet are you's from

btw kitkat, what have you done to help in the relief?

nagin and the gov knew days ahead of time and didnt get anyone out...then came crying to the feds for help

terrible situation but in order for the federal government to send in the Guard, a state needs to ask.

The blame in New Orleans was bipartisan.

We liberals care about each other and always help when needed. On the other hand the neocons and tea baggers only care about them selves and how no one must get more than they do, and that zero dollars must be taken away from them to help some one else.

bigkat - right on the $$. If 1 can't lead with a good example (GWB), at least he can sem-instruct with an abysmal one

You don't think that the failure of Katrina has something to do with the swift and well executed response?

You don't think that the acclaim that Obama will surely get is a result of fixes that were put into the system by the last admin that realized that Katrina was a failure?

Transcripts revealed that Governor Blanco and Mayor Ray (Willy Wonka) Nagin were notified that the levees may over flow at the same time Pres.Bush was.......

Why didn't Mayor Wonka ( light skinned with dialect ) mobilize these buses and take people to safety ?

His evacuation plan was ordering residents to a shelter of last resort without any provisions for food, water, security, or sanitary conditions..while overseeing the effort from his command center at the top floor of the Hyatt Regency.........

Nagin and Blanco were both so afraid someone would take some of their authority.  Blanco failed to mobilize the NG, she refused federal help for several days.  Nagin got a bunch of buses to help evacuate then parked them in a flood plane.  Bush SHOULD HAVE SEEN that these two were idiots and forced the US Army or federalized National Guard to help.  I fault him on this too but not as much as the locals.  There is plenty of blame to go around.
KOAJ says:

right on...the left loves giving away other people's money. also, when referring to the right, its not republicans per se...not very many republicans are actual conservatives.

mikael - its not a selfish thing...its an "i know how to use my money better than you do" thing...or "i'd rather have more of my own money to invest, spend, expand my business instead of giving it to government to give to someone of an important political voting block" thing

obama is a neocon...i mean if we're name calling and all

Absolutely true. The problem here is your not blaming Bush. Many could've been saved if the elected politicians in the state of Louisiana & New Orleans would've acted on the information they had and evacuated. When help did arrive, they were shot at. Big Kat do a little research. I know our current prez is under a lot of pressure right now and you had to deflect some of his many shortcomings. Nice try.
Killer_B says:

Was Bush supposed to come down and drive the fleet of buses at Nagins disposal. Do you think Bush had a magic wand to wash away the problems in New Orleans? The federal government is useless, we all know this. I'm sure you hope they take over healthcare don't you? I'll put a bullet in my head before I depend on them for anything except taxing me. Just wondering if "Big Kat" is Kanye West?

It shows that he can be decisive and swift when it comes to some things but it takes him six weeks to follow through with what he had previously SAID that he was going to do about Afghanistan.  A few more American military personnel dead or injured really does not bother him that much, he has to look (SIX WEEKS) at the BIG PICTURE.

Big Kat, Just remember that if the locals (Nagin and Blanco) did their job and executed the evacuation order properly, (remember it was mandatory), there would have been noone trapped, and noone sitting rotting in the dome and convention center.  This does not excuse the feds poor response, but the loss of life should have been minimal if the they simply executed the mandatory evacuation order.  Remember this was a hurricane that was seen coming for days not like a toronado that drops out of the sky but a relatively slow moving storm.

re: posse commitaus act reads that the president cannot make active US troops within our borders. this speaks to your point above

you're mixing 9 different arguments here but your bottom line is that everything is "Bush fault"
KOAJ says:
01/15/10 10:06AM

so pissing on federal laws are ok with you if the situation calls for it?

Killer_B says:
01/15/10 12:55AM
Kat - Why did Congress authorize the use of force if you claim they were screaming not to send troops? Where do you get your information? The UN passed 17 resolutions for Sadaam to disarm and conduct inspections and they were blown off time and time again. Hopefully you see what's happening with Iran now, they keep waving the middle finger at the world and eventually will get the bomb and use it. I'm sure you'll blame Bush for that too.
Killer_B says:
01/15/10 03:22AM
Very nice SS. Wonder where da cat gets its info? They keep voting for more $$$$$$$ over and over again.
SarasotaSlim says:
01/15/10 12:59AM

"The power of the executive to command troops in unquestioned & the power is unchecked!! PERIOD!!"

Not if Congress doesn't fund it ..something the Democrats promised not to do, to win the 2006 mid-term election ...The President cannot force them to fund anything let alone a war ...

This can be done in the House alone. The Senate is not needed...this goes for escalations of war (surges) also ...

If we want to stop wars the focus should be on Congress, not who ever is President ...  the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, like all wars, are Congress's wars...their hands are bloody and should be held to accountable ...not re-elected just because  they say "We support the troops ,but not the war BS "...You fund it, you own it .......

djbrow says:
01/15/10 09:23AM

I can think of a couple of situations where this Act was either ignored or minimized. Kennedy sending troops/guard into the south and a couple of Presidents sending troops/guard to deal with strikes.

The bottom line is the errors in New Orleans were non-partisan. Just ask anyone who was there.....

Hey BigKat,

Care to define what you meant by effective?  You might have sprayed your shorts a little a prematurely with your proclamation of the efffectiveness of Obama's response.  His words were sure quick, but the follow through has been poorly planned and people are dying in the streets now because of it.

Keep suckin' Obambi's cock before the results are in.  Just because he gave a quicker response speech doesn't mean shit.  Follow up would have been nice rather than a desparate last ditch effort to save Coakley's ass.  Piss poor management just like "helluva job Brownie".
