There is a wide range of exciting sporting events taking place this weekend all around Europe and we’ll be previewing the best of the action here.
Carling Cup Final:
The biggest game of the weekend comes from Wembley Stadium as Aston Villa and Manchester United go head-to-head for the chance to claim the first domestic cup of the season. This is the eighth time that these two sides have made it to the final of the League Cup, with Villa having won the trophy five times compared to Manchester United’s three times. However, Manchester United are the reigning champions after beating the 2008 champions Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 in a penalty shootout.
Can Villa defeat the champions and win their first trophy since they last lifted the League Cup in 1996? Alex Ferguson’s men are the odds-on favourites to claim their fourth title, but Villa have not lost to United this season, including beating them 1-0 at Old Trafford, which is their only league defeat at home this season.
How will the game go? This game is a big match for Manchester United, but is the biggest game of the season for Villa and I fancy Villa to want it more.
BetRepublic.com Tip: Back Aston Villa to win.
Chelsea v Manchester City:
Keeping with the football theme, the biggest Premier League match of the weekend comes from Stamford Bridge as Chelsea entertain Manchester City. Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from a defeat in Mila...

UFC 111 Vera vs. Jones: UFC Odds and UFC PicksBy Kumo, BetRepublic.com
UFC on Versus 1: Vera vs. Jones will take place on March 21, 1010. With the best lines right now putting Jones at -230 and Vera at +205, either of these are decent value and initially I'm leaning towards Jones to finish Vera, who himself hasn't been finishing many fights for awhile now.
Even though these are decent lines, I'm looking ahead for some match ups with better value. I'm finding them in UFC 111 on March 27, 2010. I will update all the matchups and picks each week at
www.BetRepublic.com.
Frank Mir (13-4) is at -138 odds over Shane Carwin. This is the best line on Mir right now. If you like him over Carwin, I'd think about getting in on this. In the least, you should pay close attention to this line as the fight approaches and make your move if the action starts to affect the lines. Carwin is serious about this fight, but the night should belong to Mir, especially if he shows up in the same condition for his last fight against Cheick Kongo. Remember the guillotine in the first round of UFC 107? I'm sure Kongo does. Mir wants the Lesnar fight next and shutting out Carwin will give him that chance. I'd like to see Mir/Lesnar go at it again too.
All that being said, I wouldn't count out C...

Champions League Picks
By Antony Jordon,
www.BetRepublic.com
This Wednesday’s sporting action is all about football as we’ve got two Champions League matches being played as well as four FA Cup Fifth Round replays.
Champions League:
The two games in the Champions League will prove to be tight but thrilling encounters as CSKA Moscow host Sevilla and Inter Milan take on Chelsea.
Sevilla v. CSKA Moscow
With the Russian league not in action until next month, CSKA have not played a match since they sealed their progression to the last sixteen stage of the Champions League with a 2-1 victory away to Besiktas. How will they fare with not having played competitively in 2010? Sevilla are coming out of a major drop in form. They have won their last two matches, but they have lost eight of their last fifteen games in all competitions. Due to CSKA not having played for a while and Sevilla only getting back to speed, this game looks good to end level.
Tip: Back the draw. Check for the best price at
William HillChelsea v. Inter Milan
The night’s other game in Europe is the most anticipated game this week, as Jose Mourinho welcomes his former employers to the San Siro. Both sides are in excellent form and lead their respective leagues, with Inter five points c...

NBA Future Odds Update
By Sonny Palermo,
www.BetRepublic.com A look at players listed in the box score from the loss to the Magic shows just three players remaining from the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA championship runner up team from the 2006-2007 season: Daniel Gibson, Anderson Varejo and that other guy.
And the only starter on rosters from both editions is that other guy.
In the time between the two versions of Cavs, the team has made a lot of moves to find the missing pieces of the Championship puzzle to compliment that other guy – LeBron, and to keep him from testing the free agency waters.
After failing to San Antonio in the finals that year, the Cavs were eliminated by the Celtics in the next post season, and last year they couldn’t get past the Magic. Orlando has always been a tough team for the Cavs, matchup-wise, and so this recent edition of Cavs was built specifically to overcome that obstacle.
Shaq was brought in to provide a formidable presence in the middle to counter Superman, aka Dwight Howard, and last week the Cavs employed what will be the final piece of the puzzle – someone who gives them another big body, a perimeter game and quality minutes – Antawn Jamison.
No longer is Cleveland seen as a one-star town, as LeBron now shares the stage with Shaq and Jamison. And many people seem to think the Jamison trade make...

"Tar Heels Tarred and Feathered"
By Sonny Palermo, BetRepublic.com
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
One year ago they were the last man standing, triumphantly cutting down the net.
This year, they couldn’t find a net if they were a dolphin in tuna filled waters off the coast of Japan.
Last year, the North Carolina Tar Heels won the NCAA men’s basketball championship. This season, they have a 3-7 record in conference, and are barely over .500.
It’s difficult to repeat as champions in any sport, at any level. Gluttony, age, lack of hunger, free agency, trades, salary dumps and salary increases all contribute to making the climb to the top of the mountain a tough act to repeat. But most championship teams have, at the very least, a winning record the year after they win it all. The Steelers may not have made it to the playoffs following their super bowl win, but at least they finished at 9-7.
- You can visit
www.BetRepublic.com for winning NCAA basketball picks.
Of course, pro teams don’t have to deal with something NCAA teams experience – graduation and/or early entry into the pro ranks. You would expect that a prominent team such as the Tar Heels – only UCLA and Kentucky have won more championship titles – could easily reload on recruited talent. But they were faced with the near impossible task of rep...
