FREE Pick: Washington vs. Philadelphia

Tuesday's FREE Pick courtesy of Covers Expert ~ Marc Lawrence.

MLB: Washington vs. Philadelphia

Pick: PHILADELPHIA
Start: June 18, 2013 - 7:05 PM
Capper: Marc Lawrence
Offered at: betonline @ -160 Philadelphia

Analysis:

Play On: Philadelphia w/Lee

Note: Cliff Lee and the Phillies host the Nationals in Game Two of this three-game set in Philadelphia Tuesday night knowing Lee is in commanding KW form with 34 strikeouts and 4 walks in his last four starts.  Lee is also 11-3 his last fourteen home team starts during the month of June.

With Washington's Ross Detwiler just 2-4 under the lights at night this season, look for Lee to improve to 6-3 in his career team starts against the Nats here tonight.  We recommend a 3-unit play on Philadelphia.  Thank you and good luck as always.

MLB: Oakland vs. Texas - Free Pick

Monday's Free Pick comes from Covers Expert Bryan Power

Pick: Under (OAK at TEX)

Start: June 17, 2013 - 8:05 PM

Capper's Page: https://experts.covers.com/Handicapper/Bryan_Power

Offered at: 5 Dimes @ Under 9.5 -110

Analysis:

What is going on in Arlington these days? The Rangers have gone ice cold at the plate lately.  Last week was not a good one for the club as they lost six straight games - all at home - and are now just 2-9 their last 11 games. The culprit has been a lack of run production.  They scored a total of four runs while being swept by Toronto over the weekend.

Oakland was able to avoid a sweep Sunday by exploding for 10 runs in a rare defeat for Seattle's Hisashi Iwakuma. Making things more strange is that the A's had been held to just two runs total in the first 21 innings of the series.

I like the Under in Monday's opener of a four-game set between the 1st and 2nd place teams in the American League West. Not only has Texas been struggling to score late (just 8 runs scored L6 games), but they didn't get many runners across the plate the last time they faced their division rivals. Hosting the A's back on May 20th to 22nd, the Rangers managed just five runs total for the series. They should struggle again here against Dan Straily, who came in and pitched seven scoreless innings in this ballpark last month. Including that outing, Straily has allowed 2 ER or less four of the last five... [More]

FREE Pick: St. Louis vs. Miami

Sunday's FREE Play is courtesy of Covers Expert ~ Marc Lawrence. Check it out!

MLB: St. Louis vs. Miami

Pick: ST. LOUIS
Start: June 16, 2013 - 1:10 PM
Capper: Marc Lawrence
Offered at: betonline @ -145 St. Louis

Analysis:

Play On: St. Louis vs Nolasco

Note: The Redbirds and the Fish conclude a three-game series at Marlins Park Sunday where Florida's Ricky Nolasco looks to put a halt his losing ways.  Nolasco toes the slab having dropped 14 of his last 17 team starts overall.  He's also come up a loser in 11 of his last 13 during the month of June, including eight straight at home.

With the Cardinals 4-0 all-time in Miami against Nolasco, expect more of the same this afternoon.  We recommend a 1-unit play on St. Louis.  Thank you and good luck as always.

Free Play: Chi. Cubs vs. NY Mets

We have Marc Lawrence to thank for Saturday's Free Play! Marc is on an epic 15-1 run on the hardwood, but takes a break from that to hit us with some knowledge from the diamond.  Check it out!

Pick: Chi. Cubs
Start June 15, 2013 - 1:10 PM
Capper: Marc Lawrence
Offered at: betonline @ 112 Chi. Cubs

Analysis:
Play On: Chicago Cubs w/Feldman

Note: When former American Leaguer Scott Feldman toes the slab for the Cubs at Citi Field against the Mets Saturday afternoon he will do so knowing he is in great KW form with 21 strikeouts and 3 walks in his last five starts.

On the flip side his opponent, Jonathon Niese, has dropped five of his last six home team starts and two of three career team starts while compiling a 7.67 ERA at home against the Cubs.  With Niese just 3-5 under the sun this season look for more of the same this afternoon.  We recommend a 1-unit play on the Cubs.  Thank you and good luck as always.

Friday's Free Play is courtesy of Mark Lawrence.

Pick: Detroit
Start: June 14, 2013 - 8:10 PM
Capper: Marc Lawrence
Offered at: betonline @ -133 Detroit

Analysis:

Play On: Detroit w/Porcello vs Diamond

Note: The Tigers open a three game set with Minnesota in the Twin Cities Friday night when Rick Porcello takes on Scott Diamond at Target Field.  Diamond has struggled at home of late dropping 9 of his last eleven-team starts, while going 1-6 with a 6.41 ERA here this season.

On the flip side, Porcello is in great KW form with 25 strikeouts and 4 walks in his last three starts and 8-3 his last eleven-team starts in this series, including 4-1 his last five here.  With the Tigers 14-6 in their last twenty appearances at Target Field, look for more of the same this evening.  We recommend a 1-unit play on Detroit.  Thank you and good luck as always.

Reds vs. Cubs - Free Pick

Today's free pick comes to you from Will Rogers.

Pick:U (CIN AT CHC)
Start: June 13, 2013 - 2:20 PM
Capper: Will Rogers
Offered at: betonline @ Under 6.5 -110

Analysis:

It's rare to get a line on a Cubs total overnight when they're at home in the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field, but here we have one and not surprisingly it's low as the pitching matchup of Mat Latos vs. Jeff Samardzija should be outstanding. I'm taking the Under.

Here are my keys to the game:

1.  Latos - He has not lost a decision all year, going 6-0 in 13 starts with a 2.87 ERA and 1.169 WHIP. Lately, he's been even better with a 1.86 ERA his last three outings. Latos, who hasn't dropped a decision in a team-record 20 starts going back to last year, is seeking to become the first pitcher in Reds history to start a season unbeaten after at least 14 starts with an ERA of sub-3.00.  He is 2-0 vs. the Cubs already this year, including seven scoreless innings against Samardzija, a 1-0 final.

2. Samardzija - I've said it before this season, but the former Notre Dame wide receiver may be the most hard luck pitcher in all of baseball. He has a 3-7 record in 13 starts despite a 3.18 ERA.  He's allowed two runs or fewer seven times.  Two of those were against Cincinnati, yet the Cubs lost both times.  Samardzija allowed just three runs total in the two starts, only a pair earned. I look for him to match Latos here.

3.  X-Facto... [More]

Pick: NY Yankees
Start: June 12, 2013 - 10:05 PM
Capper: Marc Lawrence
Offered at: betonline @ 115 NY Yankees

Analysis:

Play On: NY Yankees w/Hughes

Note: When the Yankees send Philip Hughes to the hill against the A's in Oakland they will do so knowing he is in strong KW form with 20 strikeouts and 4 walks in his last three starts.  Phillips is also 9-3 in his career team starts during June, including 4-0 away.

With the Pinstripes standing 13-5 in their last 18 games in this park prior to the start of this three-game series, look for more of the same this evening.  We recommend a 1-unit play on the Yankees.

MLB: Washington vs. Colorado - Free Pick

Tuesday's Free Pick comes from Covers Expert Will Rogers

Pick: Over (WAS at COL)

Start: June 11, 2013 - 8:40 PM

Capper's Page: https://experts.covers.com/Handicapper/Will_Rogers

Offered at: 5 Dimes @ Over 10 -122

Analysis:

I like the Over in Tuesday's matchup between the Washington Nationals and Colorado Rockies.  At first blush, this total seems a bit high for a Nats club that at times really struggles to score.  But with two troubled starting pitchers, I see both sides having no problems putting runs on the board.

Here are my keys to the game:

1. Dan Haren - It's been a poor season for Haren thus far, especially when he pitches on the road. He is 1-5 outside the Beltway & overall is just 4-7 in 12 starts. He allowed five earned runs at home his last start, making it just four innings and that was against the sorrowful Mets. The Over is 17-6 all-time in Haren's June road starts. The Over is 8-4 in all Haren starts this season.

2. Jhoulys Chacin - The Rockies starter hasn't fared much better this season as he's allowed five runs in back to back starts. He comes in with a 5.65 ERA at Coors Field this season.

3. X-Factor - The Rockies come in averaging 5.4  runs per game at home this year and are averaging six full runs per contest over their last seven games. They have scored at least eight times in three of the... [More]

MLB: Arizona vs. LA Dodgers - Free Pick

Monday's Free Pick comes from Covers Expert Bryan Power

Pick: LA Dodgers

Start: June 10, 2013 - 10:10 PM

Capper's Page: https://experts.covers.com/Handicapper/Bryan_Power

Offered at: Pinnacle @ -188 LA Dodgers

Analysis:

The D'backs have managed a 5-1 record head to head against the division rival Dodgers so far in 2013, but don't look for them to improve that record Monday as they go up against Clayton Kershaw in the opener of a three-game set. I'm willing to lay the juice w/ the home team in this one...

Kershaw has had a fabulous year w/ a 1.93 ERA and 0.964 WHIP in 13 starts. Unfortunately, he's only 5-4 (7-6 TSR). But look for him to break through today against an Arizona lineup averaging just 3.7 runs per game vs. lefties. For his career, Kershaw has 2.29 ERA and 1.098 WHIP in 16 starts vs. the D'backs.  He is in this price range for a reason. He has an 8-2 TSR as a home favorite in the -175 to -250 range.

Like LA, Arizona was beaten at home S... [More]

Houston vs. Kansas City ~ FREE Play!

Bryan Power's FREE Play for Sunday June 9th, 2013

MLB: Houston vs. Kansas City

Pick: KANSAS CITY
Start: June 9, 2013 - 2:10 PM
Capper: Bryan Power
Offered at: pinnacle @ -166 Kansas City

Analysis:

1* Kansas City (2:10 ET):  I won with the Royals yesterday and might as well follow up with them here as they go for a three-game sweep of the Astros.....

Since George Brett tool over as hitting coach for KC, the results have been positive. The team has scored at least four runs in each game during the current four-game win streak. They won 7-2 last night with five different players producing a RBI.  When the team scores four or more runs this season, they have a 20-5 record. The Royals are playing well right now on a season-high four-game win streak, outscoring opponents 22-8. Starter Luis Mendoza has allowed just five earned runs his last three starts.

Astros manager Bo Porter called yesterday's loss "the worst game" his team had played all year. That's saying something considering Houston's 22-41 record. Things have not gone well recently with only five runs scored in the last three games. They have lost four of five, scoring two runs or less in every defeat.  This is not a team that is good at avoiding the sweep as evidenced by a 28-71 mark when taking the field with double revenge.  They are 33-97 as a road underdog of +150 or more.  They are 32-81 in day games. Starter Lucas Harrell had a 7.53 ERA ... [More]

Oakland vs. Chi. White Sox ~ FREE Play!!

Marc Lawrence's FREE Play for Saturday June 8th, 2013

MLB: Oakland vs. Chi. White Sox

Pick: CHI. WHITE SOX
Start: June 8, 2013 - 4:10 PM
Capper: Marc Lawrence
Offered at: betonline @ 105 Chi. White Sox

Analysis:

Play On: Chicago White Sox w/Danks

Note: The White Sox and Athletics resume their scheduled four-game series at Comiskey Park Saturday afternoon where John Danks takes the hill for the Pale Hose in strong KW form with 12 strikeouts and 2 walks in his last three starts.  Danks is also 5-1 his last team starts at home during June, and 4-2 here in his career team starts in this series.

With Oakland's Tom Milone 0-3 in his day starts this season, look for this host in Danks' team starts to improve to 4-0 this season.  We recommend a 1-unit play on Chicago.  Thank you and good luck as always.

Free Play: Cleveland vs. Detroit

Bryan Power has been picking winners left right and center lately, and has found it in his heart to give us this one FOR FREE!! What a guy!  Now lets not pass up this opportunity to take advantage of Bryan's generosity, check out what he has to say about the Tigers and their 2011 Cy Young award winner Justin Verlander.

Pick:DETROIT
Start: June 7, 2013 - 7:08 PM
Capper: Bryan Power
Offered at: bookmaker @ -190 Detroit

Analysis:
1* Detroit (7:05 ET): I cashed the Tigers yesterday afternoon, part of ANOTHER big card for me during what's been an outstanding overall stretch.  Friday night, I like them at home w/ Justin Verlander on the hill against the Cleveland Indians....Homefield advantage has always played a big role when these two American League Central teams meet with the Indians losing 29 of 38 here at Comerica Park.  And while the Tribe has had Justin Verlander's "number" about as much any team in baseball, it's not enough to overcome that homefield edge and the fact they are slumping coming into this series. And Verlander has won his last three starts.Cleveland was just swept in New York earlier in the week and has lost four straight.  Going back further, they have dropped 12 of 16, a stretch which began w/ a pair of losses to the Tigers. Adding to their problems here is the fact they've dropped eight straight on the road. Ubaldo Jimenez will get the start Friday, and while he's been better lately, his ERA remains ... [More]

Note: Ichiro Suzuki and the Yankees open a four-game visit with the Mariners in Seattle Thursday evening where the Pinstripes send Philip Hughes to the mound against Aaron Harang and Suzuki's ex-mates.  Hughes takes the mound in strong KW form with 18 strikeouts and 4 walks in his last three starts knowing he is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in his career team starts in this park.
He is also 3-0 away in his career team starts during June.  With Harang 0-4 in his last four team starts during June, look for Ichiro to have the last laugh here tonight.  We recommend a 1-unit play on the Yankees.  Thank you and good luck as always.

MLB: Texas vs. Boston - Free Pick

Wednesday's Free Pick comes from Covers Expert Will Rogers

Pick: Boston

Start: June 5, 2013 - 7:10 PM

Capper's Page: https://experts.covers.com/Handicapper/Will_Rogers

Offered at: 5 Dimes @ -118 Boston

Analysis:

Yesterday's free play couldn't have been any easier as the Red Sox thrashed the Rangers 17-5 here at Fenway Park.  As a result, I'll come right back with the home team yet again tonight.

Here are my keys to the game:

1.  John Lackey - Perhaps no pitcher in baseball deserves better than his record (3-5 in eight starts) than Lackey, who carries a 2.96 ERA and has been just sensational here at Fenway with a 0.90 ERA in three starts.  He's at least gone 2-1 at home as he's given up just two earned runs in 20 innings of work. He'd given up just two runs, both unearned, in back to back wins prior to losing at Philadelphia his last start.  But back at home, I look for Lackey to rebound.

2.  Yesterday - It was pure destruction in Tuesday's opener as the Red Sox rolled to a season-high 17 runs, scoring in each of the first seven innings.  They hit for the cycle as a team in a six-run second inning and wound up hitting eight doubles for the game, finishing with 19 hits overall.  13 of them went for extra bases.  Keep in mind that on Saturday, Boston went for 18 hits in an 11-1 win over the Yankees.  It goes without saying that the offense is really clicking...
