Haven't kept up with values since McGwire's olympic rookie card went to that ridiculous value.

Also Clemens rookie was pretty inflated but stayed the same price pretty much all through the 90s (Fleer I believe was the one everyone wanted, but there were lots out there)

I haven't held a current Becketts guide magazine in my hands since the 90s. Anyone know what these two have most likely plumetted to since neither player has a prayer at reaching the HOF...........

Just curious......

I have about 30-35K cards in boxes in a closet. Pretty mixed bag..........60's-early 90's..........football, baseball, basketball. I got 95% of them out of packs I opened so my outlay isn't much. They're only worth what someone will give you for them. I'll never sell them though..........gonna hand them down to my son.

I go through them every couple years or so. Funny......for every "rated rookie" & such that made it, I've got probably 5 that no one ever heard from again. Remember David West (Mets #1 pick)? How about Monty Fariss?

It's a shame what happened to Bo. I have about 10 cards each of his football & baseball rookie cards along with the above-mentioned shoulder pads with baseball bat card.

I agree with others..............it was a fun hobby til the market got flooded with too many makes of cards & gimmicks.

I have a '38 Goudy DiMaggio.  Tuff Stuff lists it at $3,200.  I think the real market is about half of that.  I've also got a bunch of those ugly Play Ball cards.  Looks like they're all worth a decent amount.   Need to go check who I have.

i use to pull those monthly becketts out and add up all the money i would have if i were to sell my cards, man i thought i could be rich at any time if i just were to sell them all at once, but of course, why sell when they'll just go up in price in the future like my dads cards did.....

oh well, it was fun

I've got a ton of stuff, more football cards than baseball.

My football card collection starts in the 30's. I went on a buying binge about 10 years ago and pieced together a lot of older cards.

Coolest item I have is a NY Yankees World Series ring from either 96 or 98 (I don't recall, but I know it was from the year that they won the most games ever ... says so on the ring). That gaudy ring just sits in my safe collecting dust. Out of respect for the person from whom I got it, I will refrain from mentioning his name, but will say that I was in a position to help out a former Yankee in need, and did so in exchange for the ring.

Lot of baseball card collectors. I have a few from the late 70's and early 80's.  Figure most aren't worth much after reading this thread.

I guess my best card would be a Cal Ripken rookie year... Not sure about it's value though.

i have a pretty extensive collection. it's amazing how the value of these "superstar" cards have depreciated in value. everytime one of these guys gets called out for something, you might as well as stick the card in your kid's spokes.

I had one of these as well- solid yellow- including the seat.

As for the cards- I have a fairly extensive collection- including many graded cards, as well as some EXMT tobacco cards (1909).

Every couple of years, I go through them and it brings back pretty good memories-

Hopefully the older cards will hold some value-  I prefer the years when there was ONE card of a player- you either had it or you didn't- trade your doubles in bulk to get the cards you wanted-

My favorite cards-
1934 Diamond Stars ( National Chicle ) Mickey Cochrane
1951 Bowman Ted Williams
1953 Topps Satchel Paige
1956 Topps Jackie Robinson
1962 Topps Roger Maris    captjohn67-sold it to me ~20 yrs ago
1969 Topps Bob Clemente

Card collecting now is almost like high stakes gambling.

I have hundreds of football cards from the earliest times that you would not believe. Hmmmmm, maybe I should sell 'em.
