Lakers should be concerned

I am a diehard Lakers fan, but them not being able to hold onto big leads should be a cause for concern. I know it's the NBA and everybody makes a run, but they seem to do this all the time. I watch every Laker game, and I knew last night that Utah would come back. They can get away with that vs Utah, butmy concern is Utah is no longer in the playoffs.

I think alot of it has to do with TOUGHNESS and KILLER INSTINCT! Every Championship team has those two things. Other than Kobe, i don't think the Lakers have that killer instinct needed to win a title. I hope i am wrong, but the past teams that won titles in LA had that toughness and killer instinct. I just don't see that in this team or last year for that matter.

I think the Lakers talent is ridiculous, but when Lebron and the Cavs come a calling in the Finals (if both get there), talent will get them 2 maybe 3 wins. They need to find a way to be TOUGH and get that KILLER INSTINCT that all Laker championship teams had.

That is what i see as a Laker fan and follower. Again, I will be sitting on my recliner as i do every night with my Laker gear on yelling and screaming hoping they find a way to get that Championship Swagger and Killer Instinct!!!!!!!!!!

I think Pau Gasol is a great player, but he is soft.

This is the NBA, not NCAA...it's about "rings" not "Swagger" Pau Gasol soft??? Far from it.

Phil Jackson never has, and never will employ a soft player on the Lakers roster.

I beleive Denver has the best shot at taking the Lakeshow down.

Being a die hard Mavs fan (whom, rightfully so, hasn't been mentioned ONCE on this thread) I must say that the Denver-Dallas matchup will be the Bulls-Celts matchup of the West. Denver should prevail and then give LA a run at the money. Should Dallas sneak by Denver, I would give Dallas a shot as well to beat LA.

They hung in there both times (losing by 7 in two close games that Dallas actually led in the 4th quarter) and Dallas is playing their best ball of the season right now. If Denver wins, I like the attitude and finesse Carmello and Chauncy bring to the table. Denver won at home by 11, and lost at LA by 7 and 12. As previously mentioned, Denver and Dallas are playing awesome basketball right now, so I am calling for the winner of that series to knock of the Lakers. It is the NBA...where magic happens.

I agree with a lot of what you guys are saying, and no that is not me in the avatar. I am a big Kevin James fan, as well as, King of Queens.

I know last year was a difference in toughness and tenacity with the Celtics. I have no doubt in my mind that the Lakers are the best team in the NBA. i just feel the 2 intangibles that could cost them a title is the Toughness and the WILL to put the foot on the throats when you have them down.

For all that are saying this is the Lakers year, trust me, i want nothing more than to see that myself, and Yes i do believe they have the skill to win it all. Do they have TOUGHNESS?

We shall see.  GO LAKERS

Phil Jackson has never had a soft player? i am a Phil Jackson fan and Laker fan, but you are WRONG my friend. Pau Gasol is not a tough player! He is very good, but toughness is not one of his qualities. Sorry man, but i disagree!!!

Well, the Lakers came out in Game 1 with ZERO killer instinct and thought going through the motions could get it done.

I still believe the Lakers win this series, but the last thing you do is give a team that isn't as good as you the confidence that they can beat you.

Congrats LA, you now have yourself a series!!!!

The fears i have with this team showed up in game 1.

Tougher matchup for lakers than so many thought..

Houston great defensive team + lakers have no true point guard and they went on many scoreless droughts as a result last nite

Yeah i agree that the PG looks to be a bigger issue than i thought. This team pisses me off as a fan, b/c they are loaded, but they are LAZY!!

Look at the season series between these 2 games. Rockets don't just turn that around over a 7 game series.

Fair play to them for taking Game 1 but I think lot of people getting on their bandwagon a bit too prematurely.

I am going to continue to post in this thread for as long as the Lakers remain in the playoffs.

As far as the 1st post in this thread, i am watching game 2 and shaking my head, b/c toughness and killer instinct is showing up again. I know it is early, but we trail by 1 now. C'mon

This Rocket team keeps getting more, and more confident as this series progresses.

Again, i panick easy when it comes to my teams, but this really scares me. Fucking Yao is better on the bench for this team. He sits, they run us out.

Ok, after these 2 games in Houston, I just get reminded why it is so frustrating to be a Laker fan.

Game 3 - they come to play and get a nice road win, and take the wind out of Houston, as well as, Yao for the series.

Game 4 - The other Laker team comes to play - This is the Laker team that i talk about. Toughness, Tenactiy, and Killer Instinct. They lack all of these!!!!!!!!

You have a chance to put a strangle hold on this series and close it out at home, and you lay an egg. It shows this team feels like they can turn it on and off whenever they want, and that pisses me off.

I am a die-hard Laker fan, and this playoff series as well as, the remaining playoffs is going to show me just how good of a leader Kobe Bryant is.

This Laker team needs Kobe to be the leader that Lebron has shown in the playoffs. Lebron is so focused, and his team has just as much focus because of him. I don not see that in this Laker team.

Again, I am not saying the Lakers can't win this whole fucking thing, BUT i feel that this team has a lot of growing up to do in a short period of time.

Go Lakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it comes down to Lakers vs Nuggets in the West Finals, I say Kobe's gang will take Melo's down in a hearbeat.  LA swept DEN last year if I'm not mistaken. They know those mountain goats like the back of their hands. And Chauncey? The Lakers have DFish for him.
dontbookme says:
05/11/09 02:48PM
the Lakers have DFish for Billups? I am a Laker fan, but buddy you got that all wrong. Billups will own Fish. In fact, I think they gotta go with another defender to play Billups. Brooks just owned Fish, and you think billups loses that matchup? Don't think so.

Yeah, last year the Lakers swept the Nuggs. There is a guy named Billups on this year's squad that makes them just a bit better than last year.

We shall see, and as i sit and scream at the TV, remember.......

GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't disagree with the Lakers not getting out of the West. I still think they will (but i am big fan), but It will not shock me if they lose to Denver. They will not lose to Houston. can't see that, but they better come to play vs Denver.

Don't bet too much on the Lakers, but also DO NOT bet too much against them either.

they Jek and Hide baby!!!

Series is over for the Rockets....Good run at them, but just too many injuries and Lakers should close this out in Houston tomorrow night.

Then onto the Western Conf Finals vs the Billups and the Nuggets.

Waiting anxiously for that series.

Here we go again....13-1 Rockets.

This Laker team is such a lazy team, and it frustrates the hell out of me.

The Cavaliers have been favored to win the title for weeks now.  Does anyone think otherwise?  Personally, I think Denver can make a run at a title.

I see some outright wins in Denver, and some point spread wins in LA in a Denver - LA series.

Let's make some money with this!

The Lakers thrive on games when they sense trouble. If it isn't a must-win game for the Lakers, they feel like they can relax and it always bites them in the ass.

Then, just when people start to think they are done, they win a road game and get back what they lost at home.

Not sure if they can overcome this Denver team, but Kobe love to explode in Denver.

Anxious to see game 7 in LA. I am really starting to believe that this Laker team peaked too early, and they are regressing right in front of our very own eyes.

Denver is a team that is playing it's best ball right now and they are peaking when it counts.

I will say this....The Lakers know where they are at, and this is the NBA. This team is still the most talented team left in the playoffs, and when they feel it's time to play hoops, they shouldn't lose a series to anybody.

With that said, I have watched a ton of Laker games in my day, and this team just looks to be out of sync, and some key guys that i expected to rise up and play are not doing so. a la Sasha V, Fisher, Bynum. These guys have been non-existent and that hurts.

Still time to do some damage, but they better start tomorrow at 3:30 and not and 5:30 or they be heading home

Lakers vs Nuggets - WCF - gotta be or the ratings go down down down!!

Ok, back on the 28th of April, i started this thread, and it basically just stated that the Lakers have no Killer Instinct!!!

It is now May 22nd and same shit different day my friends. I continue to be the die-hard Laker fan, but i continue to watch this team piss away leads, and play lazy, and it's truly a shame.

This team is playing "not good" on a consistent basis and it is not gonna change people. It is no doubt gonna be a big struggle to get past the Nuggets. I wanted to wait and see after games 1 and 2 to see if this team would get back to way they played early in the season or just more consistent for that matter.

They are still struggling to close out qtrs and games. This is not a turn on/ turn off thing either. this is TROUBLE!! I know it is gonna happen to all teams (Cavs in game one), but it is happening every game to the Lakers.

I posted that i thought the Lakers would win in 7 and every home team  would win on thier floor. Well the home team theory is gone, and I feel that this Laker team could be in serious trouble.

Bynum, Sasha, and Fisher might as well go play fucking golf. They are a crutch right now on this team. Start Brown and rotate Farmar at PG, and play Powell more with Sasha sitting at all times. Bynum has to play better!!! The Lakers need him, and he has struggled bad since his return. he can't be healthy.

Anyway, BOL to all in these games, and as i say....GO LAKERS

As a Laker fan, the current series is more scary than that.  Denver just might be better.  Lakers have no outside shooting threat and their bigs (Odom/Bynum/Gasol) are being outmuscled.

Melo and Billups are simply abusing their defender.

Lakers can pull it out, but this is a tough, tough series, that IMO can go either way.
