Is this the first year that the NHL has a '' two day'' break for the travel day...?
What a royal pain this is...

To say Martin Jones was spectacular last night is not giving the man justice.... Last night was the prime example of a goalie stealing a game...
Pitts "almost" scored repeatedly... Hitting 3 posts on two shots at one point, during one of their extended attacks... Exciting game and SJ created and had plenty of open ice chances; which had not seemed evident in previous games.... First goal against Murry was a great shot and he was beat to the short side, again... The third goal was not a good goal to let in... Murry seemed 'not ready' at times...
So "history" repeats itself and the "trend" remains... Pittsburg is not capable of winning a Cup at home...??... Yet..?
Here's to game totals of 5 or less... Salut' ......

SJ wins a game finally.... Do we thank the Sharks or Beckley for their victory.... ... I have been terrible the whole last month of the season and now....
Sharks were outshot again by almost 2-1.... One stat that doesn't always make it to our array of statistics is the attempted shots and blocked shots.......
The Pens had 38 blocked shots in this game.... It appears that San Jose does not sacrifice their bodies as readily and willingly as the Pens are doing.....
This means that the Sharks were in the Pitt defensive zone maybe a bit more than previous games.... Desperation has a way of changing the outcome of a game....
Pittsburg first travel outside their time zone, but I don't think it was a factor... Maybe....... 42 shots is above average for a Hockey game and their speed is apparent.....
The Sharks persevered... They deserve credit and the winning goal was a spectacular score.... Pinpoint precision.....
We as fans are lucky to be seeing these two goalies at such a young age in The Stanley Cup Finals.... Congratulations to them and their families.........
Big Joe got two assists.. BUT..??.. What is his problem with shooting the puck when he has an open and clear shot at the net... ??????Goodness gracious... Shoot the pucking puck Big Joe.........
Officiating has been good and the boys have been playing great, hard hockey... Thank you to all of them for the enjoyment they are providing us... Soon it will be Baseball and only baseball... Great ... [More]

What was SJ doing the first 2 periods ..?.. They were throwing the puck to open areas from the defensive zone, outside the blue line; so their guys could could pick up the puck behind some of the Pitts. players.........................................................................
Somebody forgot to tell them that Pittsburg is way faster than them, (?) and that they couldn't get to the puck anyway before a Pens player did, and thus; Pitts ended up with the puck.... (?)... Worst coaching ever.........
How the score stayed 1-0 for so long is what remains miraculous and baffling ..
High glove side wins it this time as opposed to the high blocker side that decided the first game...
SJ did not quit at any time. They deserve credit for that... Pitt goalie is just spectacular....
SJ does not have any fast breakout speed as does Pitts..... They actually remind me of the Kings.... No break out speed, just needing precision passing to get out of their zone..........
GL to everyone... SIDNEY CROSBY IS THE BEST ALL AROUND PLAYER IN THE GAME TODAY.... JMO....

While he awaits word that the NHL is expanding to Las Vegas, Bill Foley has shifted gears in finding a place for his team’s practice facility.
The billionaire businessman, who is behind the Las Vegas expansion team bid, plans to build a two-sheet facility off Far Hills Avenue near Interstate-215 in Summerlin on land that is owned by the Howard Hughes Corporation and is in the city of Las Vegas.
Originally, Foley was looking at a site at Warm Springs Road and Durango Drive off I-215 and was going to partner with Clark County at that site. But with the process going slower than he had anticipated, Foley decided to go in a different direction.
He wants his practice rink ready in time for the 2017-18 season, which is the target date for Las Vegas to begin play if the NHL decides to approve expansion.
Foley said he didn’t want to until the project is finalized in a few weeks. A source close to the situation that wasn’t authorized to be identified said there are still several issues that need to be worked out before the project can proceed.
Foley made his decision about three weeks ago and informed the county of his intentions to go elsewhere. Howard Hughes Corporation spokesman Tom Warden said the company had no comment about the project and partnership with Foley.
The proposed practice facility could be expanded to include four ice sheets. There will be locker rooms, coaches’ offices, a video room and bleachers. The plan is to ha... [More]

As mentioned, the Capitals dropped a 3-2 decision to the New York Rangers on Friday. Another game in which they got down 2-0 and had to claw their way back to tie the game but this time Derek Stepan scored 17 seconds into the third to seal the victory for the Rangers. Antti Raanta made 32 saves in the victory in the 3-2 victory.
Washington has now played in nine straight one goal games, winning six of them. As we talked about in our post All-Star game video, stay away from the Caps or certainly stay away from them on the NHL odds boards. This advice is starting to pay off as you now should have won nine straight going against the Caps on the puck line.
I think most teams are starting to figure out that if you keep the Caps off the power play you have a chance to be close at the end. Washington has converted 23.9% of their power play opportunities and has scored one in each of the last four games.
The trends are with Boston. Against the Metropolitan Division the Bruins have had a tremendous amount of success supporting a 44-18 record.
The Bruins are extremely well conditioned which is evident by their 12-3 record in their last 15 games.
Hope he is correct in his analysis.. Keep Ovie off the powerplay so he may have to skate around some.. Oh no, wait; He will just stand at the blue line while the rest of the team plays NHL hockey..

I would want to be just like Alexander Ovechkin.....
All he has to do is stand there, at the hash marks, holding his stick with two hands below his waist, expending no energy, waiting for the puck, so he can take his shot... That's what I want to do.... Never going in the corners or having to play the boards so I might get hurt.....
In the second period yesterday, he went below the hash marks once in the defensive zone... Hardly ever crossed the blue line and just waited for the puck to come his way...
What a guy.... My only problem with Chicago was that they never hit the '' goal scoring king '' even though he hit the Hawks players on numerous occasions.......
If the choke Capitals do get out of the east, they will have to play a western team that hits, except of course, the talented but sissy Blackhawks..That's if they ''of course'' don't choke .''again''..

The Bottom Line
Pittsburgh is a money line home favorite and has won seven of eight home games. The Pens are 23-8 if the opposing team is coming off contest in which they scored five or more times while Tampa Bay is 1-6 if the team they are facing just did the same exact thing.
The home team has won six straight in this series and the OVER is a perfect 7-0 in the Steel City. The numbers are too strong to play anything different.

Got to watch them (finally) last night vs the Kings... I am not sold on the Kings to go all the way... They will absolutely need Quick to be not only on top of his game, but make some stupendous saves as they go forward in the playoffs... Their defense is weak.. (very)..
The Kings decided to throw everything they had at the back-up goalie of Washington... Resulting at times to a very high shots on goal advantage.... Many of which were right in the logo of the goalie. So there was no real threat.....Only increasing the goal tenders confidence.....
As the game progressed, you could see the Caps slowly gaining momentum without stress or worry.... They just plodded on and as time was wasting, they "patiently" picked their spots... Quick made some great saves, until it was just not possible any longer and the puck slipped in...
I was impressed with Caps patience.. Reminded me (dare I say) of the Islanders in the early 80's... How structured and confident they were.. Not saying Wash. will win as many cups.. And we all know the ''choke'' Wash. has produced in the past....
But. I thought they played a great game in many respects last night and against a ''decent'' and energetic Kings attempt...
GL tonight... over Calgary.. 5 the number

Once again the linesmaker are offering up the Capitals at bargain prices... Dubie better be sharp...

I was watching the Ducks and their cry baby color guy, He was crying the refs didn't blow the whistle early enough on an icing from the other team.. ( the Anaheim guy is sickening).. He was complaining saying the ref should have blown the whistle when the puck was at the hash marks.. What an idiot..
So I'm asking, when a team throws the puck down ice for example and no one is near the puck, ?... When is it officially an icing...
It seems like the refs usually wait until the puck passes the back line.. Tonight in one of the games, they didn't call it until the puck actually hit the back boards..

Anyone catch the '' Corey " show last night vs Montreal..?.. That was some stellar goaltending taking place... At one point with about 11 minutes left in the second period, he stopped four shots in rapid succession by Montreal... He stopped many of Montreals quality shots like that all night; except for the one time..
Now I see why Chicago has their share of unders..
Crawford seems to have quietly become a force within himself..

It is now 2016.. Wishing everyone health and prosperity..
1st.. When a player backs in over the offensive (other teams) blue line, it is not an off side's if he is over that blue line before the puck if he has possession of the puck... Rick Nash backed in 2 to 3 feet before he brought the puck in .. The announcer called it an offsides, but the color man explained the rule..
2nd.. Seen the first time by me, same night but it was the Stars game I think... Player in the defensive zone kicks the puck away from his goaltender as the other team was pressuring ... He kicks it over the boards... ?????... The announcers weren't sure. The refs went to the phone.. Penalty, delay of game....
Those were 2 firsts for me... I had seen guys back over the blue line before the puck before, but it was never in question... Usually called off sides because they were there a half second before the puck....

I will not bet on or against St. Louis, Detroit or Canucks... These 3 teams are killing me...

Now that the salary cap is skyrocketing over 72 million or more for next year, has anyone noticed why.....???..... One word....
COMMERCIALS, COMMERCIALS AND THEN MORE COMMERCIALS.......... (o.k. 3 words)
WTF is happening... It is as bad as football... Geez.. Last week there are 5 games on the Hockey package and 4 of the games have commercial time outs.... Then last night, 4 games still playing, its intermission on all 4 games..... A few days ago, 5 games on and 3 different start times and all 5 on intermissions.......... ... So screwed up at how this is turning out....
With that being said, and my apology for complaining...
2 dogs today;
Detroit and Vancouver
No Parisi and Dubie
No Carter for kings.

What happened to "the box"... When a defensive team killing a penalty gets in the 4 man box and just passes the puck around to each other killing off penalty time... Has it been outlawed..?
Thought a team was setting up for it the other night, but the defenseman just threw the puck down the ice...
I remember the box killing off 20 to 30 seconds or more sometimes.. Have not seen it employed for many years now..

Question for day 1 of inactivity: 1 down 2 to go..
Will he or will he not make it through this season without his heart seizing up or exploding..
John Tortorella .. He looks so intense on the bench that if he takes a breath or breathes out at any time, He would just flap away like a balloon flying through the air after you blow it up and let it go..
Did he or anyone really need the stress of it all.. It's one thing to accomplish something, but to risk your health ..?? Not so sure.. Unless his heart and body need the stress to function properly, because it looks like he is getting plenty..
Happy Holidays to everyone..

Subway sandwiches used to have a two for tuesday footlong.. For a little over 6 bucks... Almost as good as todays two-fer in NHL.
Boston ... They may be 4-12 since 2001 against Blues, but 9 of those games went into overtime.. If they keep St. Louis off the power play, I suspect the losing trent against the Blues will cease and desist... Rask is playing to his previous potential also at this time
Tampa Bay... I suspect Vancouver will come out early and try to bully T.B... But T.B. Goaltender has never lost to Canucks, and I don't see this trend ending tonight..

Under the Covers ''matchup'' heading, there is a section called Statistical Analysis.. First time I noticed it.. Interesting the breakdown on shots and scoring 1st, 2nd and 3rd periods... Do not have time to do a complete search of it, but it looks as though Florida is a team that does not show up to the game until the second period....
If I am reading that wrong, someone please tell me.. Thank You in advance..

from xm radio... Team with most deflected shots on goal..?.
San Jose Sharks....
2.5 deflected shots on goal..
Joked about how many did not go in and if they did,SJ would have a better record of course
No numbers on goals scored due to reflection....
I wonder if they make up some of this stuff for ertainment purposes.
