When is it considered legal icing

I was watching the Ducks and their cry baby color guy, He was crying the refs didn't blow the whistle early enough on an icing from the other team.. ( the Anaheim guy is sickening)..  He was complaining saying the ref should have blown the whistle when the puck was at the hash marks..  What an idiot..

So I'm asking, when a team throws the puck down ice for example and no one is near the puck, ?... When is it officially an icing...

It seems like the refs usually wait until the puck passes the back line.. Tonight in one of the games, they didn't call it until the puck actually hit the back boards..

Corey Crawford

Anyone catch the '' Corey " show last night vs Montreal..?.. That was some stellar goaltending taking place... At one point with about 11 minutes left in the second period, he stopped four shots in rapid succession by Montreal... He stopped many of Montreals quality shots like that all night; except for the one time..

Now I see why Chicago has their share of unders..

Crawford seems to have quietly become a force within himself..

GL today..

Two things I learned this week in NHL

It is now 2016.. Wishing everyone health and prosperity..

1st.. When a player backs in over the offensive (other teams) blue line, it is not an off side's if he is over that blue line before the puck if he has possession of the puck... Rick Nash backed in 2 to 3 feet before he brought the puck in .. The announcer called it an offsides, but the color man explained the rule..

2nd.. Seen the first time by me, same night but it was the Stars game I think... Player in the defensive zone kicks the puck away from his goaltender as the other team was pressuring ... He kicks it over the boards... ?????... The announcers weren't sure. The refs went to the phone.. Penalty, delay of game....

Those were 2 firsts for me... I had seen guys back over the blue line before the puck before, but it was never in question... Usually called off sides because they were there a half second before the puck....

New years resolution

I will not bet on or against St. Louis, Detroit or Canucks... These 3 teams are killing me...

2 live dogs today: but first....

Now that the salary cap is skyrocketing over 72 million or more for next year, has anyone noticed why.....???..... One word....

COMMERCIALS, COMMERCIALS AND THEN MORE COMMERCIALS.......... (o.k. 3 words)

WTF is happening... It is as bad as football... Geez.. Last week there are 5 games on the Hockey package and 4 of the games have commercial time outs.... Then last night, 4 games still playing, its intermission on all 4 games..... A few days ago, 5 games on and 3 different start times and all 5 on intermissions.......... ... So screwed up at how this is turning out....

With that being said, and my apology for complaining...

2 dogs today;
Detroit and Vancouver

No Parisi and Dubie
No Carter for kings.

Inactivity day 2 ; ''the box''

What happened to "the box"... When a defensive team killing a penalty gets in the 4 man box and just passes the puck around to each other killing off penalty time... Has it been outlawed..?

Thought a team was setting up for it the other night, but the defenseman just threw the puck down the ice...

I remember the box killing off 20 to 30 seconds or more sometimes.. Have not seen it employed for many years now..

Inactivty 1

Question for  day 1 of inactivity: 1 down 2 to go..

Will he or will he not make it through this season without his heart seizing up or exploding..

John Tortorella ..  He looks so intense on the bench that if he takes a breath or breathes out at any time, He would just flap away like a balloon flying through the air after you blow it up and let it go..

Did he or anyone really need the stress of it all.. It's one thing to accomplish something, but to risk your health ..?? Not so sure.. Unless his heart and body need the stress to function properly, because it looks like he is getting plenty..

Happy Holidays to everyone..

Two for tuesday

Subway sandwiches used to have a two for tuesday footlong.. For a little over 6 bucks... Almost as good as todays two-fer in NHL.

Boston ... They may be 4-12 since 2001 against Blues, but 9 of those games went into overtime.. If they keep St. Louis off the power play, I suspect the losing trent against the Blues will cease and desist... Rask is playing to his previous potential also at this time

Tampa Bay... I suspect Vancouver will come out early and try to bully T.B... But T.B. Goaltender has never lost to Canucks, and I don't see this trend ending tonight..

Statistical Analysis

Under the Covers ''matchup'' heading, there is a section called Statistical Analysis.. First time I noticed it.. Interesting the breakdown on shots and scoring 1st, 2nd and 3rd periods... Do not have time to do a complete search of it, but it looks as though Florida is a team that does not show up to the game until the second period....

If I am reading that wrong, someone please tell me.. Thank You in advance..

Fridy tidbit

from xm radio... Team with most deflected shots on goal..?.

San Jose Sharks....

2.5 deflected shots on goal..

Joked about how many did not go in and if they did,SJ would have a better record of course

No numbers on goals scored due to reflection....

I wonder if they make up some of this stuff for ertainment purposes.

No Brainer for Today (mon.)

65 degrees in L.V... Golfing season has officially been extended..

No rhyme or reason to this.. Sometimes it pays to simply leap faithfully into the darkness and survive..

Two returning teams vs two with winning records.. The returning home teams losing consistency has diminished and has begun to balance out... I just hoping for the best and hoping even more to break the '' post it on Covers '' Jinx of losing when posting....

2 team ML parlay:

Nashville
Minnesota

Throwing caution to the wind.. Good luck y'all.........

TB at Kings

After seeing TB try to blow that game last night against SJ, I think the Kings will get it done tonight.... I see the Kings coming out in the first period flying, hitting, shooting and putting everything they can muster against TB...

Once Tampa gets over the shock of almost losing the previous game with a 4-1 lead, they will start to skate and we will see an over 5...

Then I woke up.. !!

Best shot attempt I have ever seen and why I hate homer announcers

Last week I was watching a game, sorry but I did not write it down so I can't remember which team. Visiting team and I think the uniforms were white with blue. So Probably Tampa Bay or Winnipeg not sure and I am sorry about that. They did lose the game.

So the kid picks up the Puck at the top of the circle just to the right of the goaltender. So he's about 20 feet away from the goalie. The defenseman has the inside on him, so the kid really doesn't have time to make a move. The defenseman stick was on the ice also.

So the kid with the puck decides to flip the puck in the air over the defenseman stick and at the same time he dives and while he is flying through the air, he takes the swing baseball style but left-handed, at the flying Puck. He missed the puck, by this time he was only 5 feet in front of the goalie just to his right. It was an amazing attempt.

But the two homey announcers of course don't even mention the attempt. They're just talking about some inane bull crap. If the kid  Knocks the puck in while he's in the air taking a left handed swipe at it it would have gone down as one of the greatest goals ever scored.

Just hoping someone here saw that try... It was either the night or two before Thanksgiving or the night after..

Good luck tonight.. Wish I could pick a winner..

Marketing the game of Hockey

The sport has actually come a long way in their endeavor to market itself better.........
A few years back, I called and spoke on the War Room.. Told them and listened to myself (it was a kick) telling the radio guys how terrible the commercials were, always showing overweight guy, in sloppy and dirty looking jerseys ... Etc.... They would be yelling, belching and just doing stupid stuff....
I told them that this was detrimental to getting more women involved in the sport... The only way hockey can be successful and remain successful is to get the women incolved...... Period.... They should show more women, with their men enjoying the night out.. Etc...
NOW I'M NOT SAYING IT WAS BECAUSE OF ME.. JUST SAYING..
Now I see one Commercial for some Canadian bank where these little 4 year olds are on the ice in their uniforms.... One of the kids falls down and a kid from the other team sorta walks over in his skates because he is too small and too young (I guess) to actually understand the principles of skating.... He holds out his hand and helps the other kid get up on his skates. It is the best commercial I have ever seen.. Touching and takes the brutality away... At least for women.. And me...lol
Also I now see girls in hockey uniforms and families getting involved in the modern day commercials...  Fantastic..
Sorry guys, just a thought... Theres more but I will shut up..
Good luck tonight..

Just want to share part of this article

Look to Play Against Bad Penalty Killers
With a little more than a quarter of the season past, it is good for those assembling sports picks to keep abreast of trends. For example, one right now is to play against teams giving up to many goals when down a man because of penalties. Here is the penalty kill numbers starting with the worst percentages first, plus current records.

Calgary 70.8% (8-16 SU, -7.7 units)

Minnesota 74.5% (11-11, -1.1)

Boston 75.3% (13.9, +3.3)

Buffalo 75.4% (10-14, +0.3)

Tampa Bay 76.1% (11-14, -8.0)

Carolina 76.1% (8-15, -6.9)

Florida 76.8% (9-13, -3.9)

With the NHL having gone away from the heavy-hitting to a more free-flowing game, the inability to win in special teams situations has become critical. Though all teams lose for various reasons, some are very easy to point out, like those listed above.

Curious as to what you think

Did anyone see that hit in the Redwings-Dallas game yesterday  (Sun.)..?.. From their re-plays, looked like a clean hit.. Sorta in the back, kinda..?.. But almost the side..?. The Detroit t.v. announcer was trying to make a big deal out of it, but it did not look intentional or trying to injure... The color announcer wasn't so sure..

Off to play golf soon.. Would love to get some feed back..

Did I miss it..?..

Last nights games

I got to watched a few of the games last night.

The Dallas game which I bet along with the over.(loser). Dallas did everything but put the puck in the net.. They outplayed Toronto so ridiculously bad.. The puck seemed to be bouncing around on them like fish out of water. When they weren't missing the net or hitting the posts, to Toronto goalie credit, the puck was kept out.. He seemed to be focused and always in position.......

The Kings game..?.. Chicago youth can skate.. These must be some of the kids they received in trades.. They did a great job last night against a machine like Kings team.. The Kings had chances, but they experienced their usual problem of not being able to put the puck in the net.. Loser 2.

Saving grace bet.. Vancouver and over.. Vancouver was on the puck most of the second and third period. Philly goalie was spectacular.. Score could have easily been 8 - 1 ... chased early losers wit a late winner..

How bad are these Ducks

Man do they look terrible... No speed on the back line and can't seem to get a shot on goal.... PHEW...

Glad I don't have my money on them.... BUT...!!!!!!!. Not over yet, right...?

Scratch and claw late games 2

The Sharks seem to miss the golden speed and stick of Logan Coture as they lose games without him... Not for lack of trying though. I think they should win this one tonight and they will be a hopeful bailout 1st leg of a two team parlay.

The scratch and claw game will be Vancouver vs Detroit.. Vancouver has two decent lines while Detroit only seem to have one. Howard was lights out last night... He will need another big night for what may be a tired Redwings team.....

So I am investing in San Jose and Vancouver to slightly more than double my money...  A 2 hour investment for hopefully a 120 % gain.

Good luck to all money players..

Making early plays also. Like everyone else.

From Ross Benjamin. SBR Sports.

NHL Special Teams Efficiency Ratings
One of the key components that I’ve incorporated when handicapping the NHL is using what I refer to as special team ratings. The equation is quite simple. I take the percentage of times that a specific team converts on their power play attempts, and add that number to the percentage in which they kill off power play chances by their opponents. I’ve illustrated an example below.

Example: Last season the Boston Bruins were successful in scoring a goal on 17.8% of their power play attempts, and they also denied the opposition from scoring on 82.0% of their man advantage opportunities. By adding the two percentage numbers of 82.0 and 17.8 we arrive at a sum of 99.8. We’ve now established a special teams rating of 99.8 to the Bruins. This takes a bit of diligence to keep up on since each team’s rating will be altered on a game-to-game basis.

How to use the Ratings to Handicap the NHL
I’ve found these ratings to become more accurate as the season progresses. Through vast experience, I’ve arrived at these conclusions since implementing this handicapping tool into a part of my arsenal six years ago.

The Standings
There’s definitely a direct correlation between a club’s special teams rating, and their actual spot in the standings. Let’s use my ratings on 1/23/2015 to exemplify the process. The top four teams in terms of ratings at that time were Detroit (110.0), Chicago (107.4), Vanc... [More]
