Big 10 and Notre Dame -- Marriage of necessity

Has the time come for the Big Ten and Notre Dame to join forces?  The Big Ten is just god awful.    Last week Illinois beat Iowa and then Western Michigan beats Illinois and then Iowa beats Penn State.  Does this mean that the MAC can compete with the Big Ten?  You bet they can.  Penn State and Ohio State would both be bottom feeders in the SEC or Big 12.  USC is also a mile ahead of them.

Notre Dame is also falling on hard times.  Many negative ramifications could come of this.  Cancellation or reduction of the TV contract from NBC, reluctance of major colleges to schedule them.  Notre Dame could have a schedule made up of Army, Navy, Air Force, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, etc.  As you know, when they needed a coach, Urban Meyer stood clear of that situation.  Long term recruiting could also be effected.

The solution:  The Big Ten and Notre Dame need to join forces and form a 12 team league with a championship game.  This game could be held indoors at Ford Field in Detroit each year.  The Big Ten also needs to build in a bye week before their rivalry games in order to limit the longer layoff between the last game and the bowl game.

North Division Penn Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa

East Division Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State, Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana

This really should happen. Problem is, Notre Lame plays in the Big East in CBB. That would just be bizarre. If anything, the Big East needs ND more than the Big11.

whats funny is that the big ten has a winning record against the sec in bowl games...ohio st. has had two bad national championship games...that doesn't make a hole conference terrible.

The SEC is overrated. I'm not a fan of the big ten at all, but the SEC is not that great.

LSU can't stop anyone but they get a pass for playing tough.
Georgia...ditto.

Lets be serious only Florida and Bama are legit top 10 teams. And thats normally how it plays out every year. Their best team will be a proven great team but other than that everyone else is just a normal college team.

Yes, this year, the SEC is not that great. Other than the Big 12, what conference is? Just because the SEC is down this year doesn't mean it isn't the elite conference in CFB. It is not over-rated, it is the best conference most years.

This is just an anomalous year with terrible teams rampant in all conferences. Only the Big 12 can claim to be a superior conference this year, and even then, they have the big four-five teams and then a large drop off after that. And there are few teams in the country as horrible as Colorado and Iowa State right now. Oh yeah, Kansas State and A&M are pretty fucking bad too.

Just a weird year in CFB. The Big 10 still sucks, and has for a long time. It's not their fault. It's a demographic shift in the country's population. People are more mobile, so why live in the freezing ass shitty cold with horrible a horrible economic base? No reason. The Mid-West will probably be a ghost town in a 100 years.

You can have north and east.  I'm trying to preserve some of the big 10 rivalries.  Do you have an opinion or are you just here to insult people JLT?  I would lob a couple of insults back at you but it's not worth my time.

Irrelevant, it's colld there, so the big ten sucks.

Gam said so.  Ghost town, chicago, philly, NYC, all will be empty.

Someone has a sandy vagina.

I didn't say Chicago or Philly did I? I said cold weather shit holes with NO ECONOMIC BASE.

Think Detroit, the state of Indiana, the middle of Pennsylvania (Pennsylbama?), etc.

Nobody will live there in 100 years, because it sucks ass and will have no sustainable economy. Why? Because GAM says so.

Sorry your shitty Nittany Lions were exposed ruffcutter. If I was a superstitious idiot as I suspect you might be, I'd hate me too for my mush.

Not gonna happen....this reads like someone has no knowledge of College football wrote this or someone that loves the Big 10.  they are usually the same type of person.

NBC reupped the contract after last year's 3-9 record so... that point is moot.

Teams not scheduling ND... um... okay.  do think any other team that is 7-5 would get to go to a New Year's day bowl like the Gator Bowl like the rumors I hear?

ND is on track for four top 5 recruiting classes in a row.  Even after last year's 3-9 record they had the No. 1 class.

Steelhop - I forgot more about college football than you know.  Who cuts and pastes the whole article and puts it back into the response?  You nimcompoop you!

I see your point about Notre Dame's great recruiting class.  How many points did they score at BC?

Way to expose your ignorance.

It would be more like a marriage of mediocrity.

Let them join the Big East, ND would bring nothing to the Big 10.

Notre Dame football is too arrogant to believe they need a conference. It should've happened a couple years ago. Eventually, the Big 10 will take a 12th team so they can have their own championship game. Of course, the first invitation will go to ND, and they'll turn it down.

I think they should take Rutgers. Rutgers can give the conference NYC.

If Rutgers left, the Big East gets that much closer to a non-BCS level conference. There's nothing that can be done now...people made the wrong decisions in the 1980's.

This next part might sound like a tangent...but no, I'm not bitching.

These 9 teams should've made up the heart of the Big East: Syr, Pitt, BC, Penn St, West Va, Rutgers, Navy, Maryland & Temple. Later, Va Tech and Miami would've joined,  and UConn would've been the 12th team. That's a healthy league. But...the athletic directors screwed it up in 20 years ago and there's no fixing it..

I believe The Big Ten should take whatever Big East school they think will give them the most new subscribers to The Big Ten Network. It's all about money. Rutgers is closest to NYC's population...they have the best argument.
