Why Duke Will Win By Double Digits

I've been going through major withdrawal since last Sunday waiting for the Madness to start up again, but since we're only hours from what I think will be the best weekend of College Basketball this year, it's time to weigh on tonight's matchups.
 
Most people know that I'm a loyal Duke supporter and it's amazing how many times I've heard that Villanova are going to walk over the Dukies tonight, which is absolutely insane.  I know that number 1 rule of sports gambling is not to bet on your own team, but the fact that Duke are -2 (at Sports Interaction) is reason to open up the wallets tonight.
 
Consider the following three factors when trying to talk yourself into the Wildcats tonight
 
- Villanova has no size or depth - Yes they have a nice backcourt but everyone knows that to beat Duke you pound them to death inside.  With no inside threat you're basically convinced the Reynolds and Dante Cunningham are going to outplay Henderson, Singler and Scheyer, all while being locked down by Elliot Williams and Nolan Smith
 
- They're not in Philly anymore - Outside of the win at Syracuse (and let's be honest, Cleveland St. won at Syracuse) find me a quality road win on Villanova's schedule.  Even though the crowd will be pulling for them, this isn't the Wachovia Center and when they look across the court and see "Duke" across the chest, the nerves will start to rattle.  Remember when Xavier played Duke on national TV and were down 18-1 three minutes into the game?  You've been warned.
 
- The coaching matchup - Coach K vs. Jay Wright.  Come on.  This is a guy that had to sweat it out against American in his own building.  He can't trade X's and O's with the greatest of all time.  If you're a believer in fate you'll know that the gold medal and the NCAA Championship could be the greatest coaching season in history.  And it's going to happen.
 
Add it all up and Villanova will be lucky to keep it within 10 tonight
 
Other matchups I REALLY like..
 
Purdue +7 over UConn
Missouri +5 over Memphis
 
I actually like both dogs to win outright, so you may want to consider the ML

I actually think Gonzaga can hang with UNC at +8.5 and I like Michigan State to cover the 1.5. I also like Arizona (+9) and Syracuse (+1)

Duke can not stop anyone from driving to the basket and when they get to the basket they have no shot blockers.  Nova has several guys that can get to the rim off the bounce.  I see no way Duke can stop Nova.

Dude, where to begin.

SIZE? Devils, front court- 6'8, 6'8, 6'4. Zubek off the bench, which, any guy with muscle could cover.

Nova- 6'8, 6'8, 6'5 and 6'6.OK, so, the overpower is clearly on the Devils side.


Homecourt- WHere have all but 1 of the Devils L's come from? Oh, the road, when they played good teams. And the Devils aren't in Nc anymore either.

coaching- Anyone who says gettign a team to the sweet 16, 4 out of 5 yrs, and always losing to the NC, really gets it. BTW, thats what Jay wright has done.

Ok, thats for makign those points, I feel better now.

My point was that Nova has no size, and the measurements that you provided confirms that. I know Duke are small but Nova have absolutely no advantage in the post

Road Wins - How about Duke's wins at Purdue, Maryland and FSU (all tournament teams), the beatings on Michigan and Xavier (neutral site), and a loss to the buzzer against Wake Forest.

Coaching - I know you're not saying "Sweet 16 four out of 5 years" as an accomplishment. Try making it to the second weekend 10 years in a row, or having 10 Final Fours, or 3 National Championships.

Come on now you can do better then that.

Don't go nuts on this. Villanova has a relentless defenses that can force plenty of turnovers and cause disruption. If two of their shooters are hot tonight, Duke will be going home. Duke is the one here that could find themselves in foul trouble.

I find your point about size amusing considering that UCLA was much bigger than Nova. Don't blow your college tuition on this one. Take it from the old man here.

Nova's bench is deeper than Duke's. The Corey combo kills them. Duke can't stop dribble penetration and that's what make the Wildcats go. Blue Devils defense has been crap in the tournament. They can't trade buckets with one of the best offensive programs in the country.

No chance in hell Duke wins by double digits. I'll give anyone 4:1 on $100 if they want to take me up on that bet.

Not sure how Nova isn't deep when two of their best offensive options come off the bench with Stokes and Fisher.

Stokes will go 3-5 from deep, and Fisher will add 8 points, Reynolds and Cunningham will provide 35 between them, and Nova wins outWRIGHT 70-65.

I understand the write up not to prove that Duke has more size, just that Villanova doesn't possess the size inside to take advantage of the soft Duke middle.

not sure whats more of a laugher that you say duke by 10+ or purdue ml.. Wow bol to ya.. other side for me..Big ten really? purdue is playing well but will get hurt on the boards and dukes yet to play anyone in the tourny yet either so get off that real quick.. will be a good game both teams hustle and scrap and you have the better coach but cmon now nova is a TEAM and will get this one..

Coaching- yeah, The rat has got this ave team farhter than they should have gotten. Great job.

I still have not been given anything yet on those statements.

Just say it, your just betting the Devils, cause the name on the front. You have not said the better match ups correct or why hey should lose is because the game is in BOS?

RIP Duke! Once again, the overrated Dukies (which is what my son calls poop!) came up short in the NCAA's. As a #2 seed, they are the 5th to 8th best team in the Nation?? Uh, no. Duke is to NCAA Basketball what Notre Dame is to NCAA Football - a big name with a great madia machine pumping out great propaganda regarding their elite status in their respective sport. One out of three isn't bad. The one big stat you forgot is that 5 Big East teams were in the sweet sixteen. That means Villanova was playing real quality opposition almost every night be it home or away. They also play "D". Oh yeah, I also heard how UCONN would have trouble matching up against Purdue. The only reason that game wasn't a 20 pointer is that Adrien had prbably his worst shooting night of the season from the foul area.

Your ACC/Duke glasses had to much rose in them.

Hope reason returns now that Duke is gone. North Carolina was the only legitimate ACC threat to win it all from the beginning.

I did bet Villanova on the money line. Call me crazy!!
