The Gators usually open the season with 2 cupcakes (exception 2008 Miami,Fl )So you say what is the big deal with beating FAU and UAB by  a combined 80-3. Well the deal is that when the gators hold the first 2 teams to real low scoring numbers, they have had a banner year ! In 2006 they opened 76-7 went 13-1 and won the BCS National championship. Likewise in 2008, opened 79-13 went 13-1 and also were national champs ! In 2009 they opened 119-9 and went 13-1 . So in these 3 banner years the gators were 39-3 won 2 national championships and won the sugar bowl in 2009

In 2007 the gators opened 108-34 went 9-4. And lost to Michigan in the capital One bowl. In 2010 they opened 72-26 went 8-5 but did win the outback bowl in Urban Meyer’s last game

So by holding the first 2 teams to 3 points the gators have a shot at a very good year.

Tennessee is coming in next week with a red hot QB in Tyler Bray . he has thrown 7 TD 0 INT and has completed 78.5 % of his passes , and 10.7 yards per ATT.The Gators have beaten the Vols 6 straight times , the last 4 by DD, so this should be a real test on how good this year’s team really is !

The play calling of Charlie Weis is much better than last year, under Addazio and the play of John Brantley, is also improved, with Weis but he will really have to step it up with tenn, Alabama  and 2 big road games with LSU and Auburn coming up. By Oct 15, we should know if this year’s Gator team is for real
