Okla st the Rodney Dangerfield of CFB

Last week I posted why I liked Okla st getting 3 at TT

I have already capped the Nebraska game taking the Okies +6 at home

Martinez was beaten up by the Longhorns. Okies should key on his running and make him pass

Okla st +6  this line will probably drop

No offense, but you are on the wrong side.  OSU is gonna lose by 17 points

jordyn31 says:

none taken

The line should be a pick at Okla st

If they stop martinez running, like Texas did they could win

I like the home dog with 6

Just look at OK St's defense this year.  They are horrible!  Comparing Texas defense to OK St's defense is laughable!

jordyn31 says:

Kobie if Im not mistaken you laughed at my pick of Okla st over TT

Im not saying Okla st has a good defense, but Texas showed if you stop Martinez you cab beat Nebraska

I feel there is good value with an undefeated team at home, with a very good QB getting 6 !

What are you talking about?  OSU's defense is not horrible.  It's not great but it is above average.

you are correct about the line being off... although i have it at Neb (-3)... not off by as much as you have it...
Handicapper33 says:

First off both of you guys are wrong; lines are based off of power ratings Nebraska has a higer power rating you get points for home field and then then you get your spread; jordyn back up why you think it should be a pick; what is your reasoning; and as far as stopping Martinez he better get his head back into the game after getting yanked; first off this is an away game and Martinez has only played one and Nebraska defense stuffed Locklear early in the season; now yes Ok state defense is not as good as Texas defense but Ok state offense makes up for it because its one of the top 5 in the country; playing at Wash versus as OK stat is two different ball games; OK state is very difficult to play against and you never know what you are going to get with Martinez who was yanked; sat by himself crying and now has to go on the road and go tit for tat against a very prolific Ok state offense. You saw what happens when he has to throw it; the reason they drop it is because he throws it like a pitcher; I am not on either side because too many unknowns but I dont know if playing an away fav off its first loss going on the road against a very very good offense in a hostile environment would be the play; but gl on your plays
ApocalypseLater says:

thanks for the lesson...

my power rating for Nebraska is 88.0... Ok St is 81.7... Ok St being the home team, that 6 pt difference drops down to a 2.5 to 3 pt difference... Neb (-3) is your accurate line...
Rollbama1237 says:
10/18/10 03:08PM
Neb will dominate. OKST has not seen a decent secondary yet and Nebraska's is the best in the country. Also getting some value in Neb; if Huskers had taken care of Texas this would be well over a TD.
MarkDogg says:
10/18/10 03:10PM
nebraska may put up 60+ on that defense ,nebraska by least 2 tds
jordyn31 says:
10/18/10 03:29PM

The reason I feel it is even is the power rating I follow is 86-82 Nebraska. With the home field you have a very even spread

Weedrn is a very goof QB with a 163 rating. They also will see what Texad did to get to Martinez

I just like the 6 points at home. Last week Okies started out a 1 pt favorite and ended up a 3 point dog

I bet the game +6 on betus this mornong

POISON66 says:

Lmao, it may be 17 points the OTHER way around. Cowboys will stuff the run and force the Corncobbers to throw, which they can't. Pokes are a 2 headed monster on offense, as they creamed Tech alot worse trhan the final showed saturday. I'm taking them LARGE this week.......
jordyn31 says:

Some leans

Nortwestern +8     Mich st due for a week off

Navy   +7

Missouri +3

Louisville   +2

Colorado +1

swizzol says:

Nebraska may score every time they touch the ball.  OK ST can only win if they go punch for punch with their opponent.  Nebraska will disrupt the OK ST offense.

All i'm saying is that this is a very even game at Okla st

I like getting 6

POISON66 says:
10/19/10 02:47PM
Every time they touch the ball???they had trouble scoring at all against some Dakota 1-AA school at HOME!!!OSU's defense has improved and has much better athletes, and it's in Stillwater. Corncobbers will show to be the biggest pre-season fraud this year...

Are you suggesting you might be on the Pokes    Not a bad situation to back Huskers imo..
RJSizzle says:
10/19/10 04:08PM
This is a fantastic spot to fade Huskers again.

Not one person thinks that showing last week wasnt a fluke.

They all seem to think Nebraska can name their score again.

I will pay to see Martinez beat me on the road after that performance. I dont think the kid has it in him.

POISON66 says:

Sulking on the sidelines was embarrassing... No way I take that overrated team..
gtsum says:
10/19/10 04:34PM
Why would the Cowpokes get any respect?  What have they ever done in the world of college football, except produce Barry Sanders and having the biggest homer booster in the history of sports to try and keep the facilities up with Texas, OU, and Huskers??????????

Look closer at the UT game last week - 3 dropped TD passes by Huskers, part of 7 (or 8..depending on our count) in total.  10 penalties.  Turnover at own 20 that led to 7 of Texas' 20 points.  I just read an article that Pelini counted 28 missed tackles...worst tackling game he has been a part of ever he said..I am not saying we could have or would have beaten texas, but huskers played awful....now...on to this week - who here honestly believes this Okie state offense will be able to throw the ball against Huskers????  Nobody has been able to throw against them for the better part of 2 seasons - who here thinks the highly regarded (??!?!) Okie state defense is as athletically gifted, strong, and fast as Texas??  I would venture to guess not many???  Huskers have better away record then home and play better under adversity for some reason (they cannot handle any success very well though)....

HUskers will roll here (the following week against Mizzou is the one I am worried about).  My previous biggest plays of the year were on BC (loss) and Huskers (win against K state) - I am playing Huskers biggest play of the year for me - already got em at -5 1/2.  BOl whichever way you go

Gotta love Sizzle thinking the kid don't have it in him on the road..his two best games of the year were on the road....who knows though??  He has only played 6 games as a D1 college QB...maybe he folds like a went tent...I dont think so..the kid is tough and resilient imo
gtsum says:
10/19/10 04:37PM

how are the Pokes going to pass against this Husker defense?  Now if Kendall goes off for 200 yards, then yeah, Huskers have issues and might lose by 17....also, how do you propose Okie State is going to stop Husker offense?  You must be saying they have the same athletes, coaches, speed, and talent as Texas??  Surely not????  Are we watching the same teams here?  I have watched several Okie St games this year, and that defense is fucking terrible...no way around it...
gtsum says:
10/19/10 04:37PM

Staying away from this one. I like Oklahoma State passing game, but Nebraska DB's are as solid as they come.

Nebraska is not balanced on offense and could easily get upset here.

This game is too much of a toss up can't lay anything for either side.
gtsum says:
10/19/10 05:26PM
I also see that OSU has faced only one defense in the top 87....EIGHTY-SEVEN NCAA teams this year.....this keeps getting better and better for my huskers
POISON66 says:
10/19/10 05:28PM
Husker offense??? You shut the run down, it's non-existant. Athletes at OSU are much better as they have recruited extremely well and theur 2 deep is impressive but very young. The defense smothered Tech, which has lit up Nebraska. I don't know where people came up with this garbage that Nebraska is a top 10 team, much less 25. It's on name alone..
joewashington says:

And it's not Okla.......dipstick..

Poison - where youat??  Sucks to see your Okie State boys go down in flames.  That being said, I feel very fortunate to come out of this game with 1) a WIN, and 2) a Cover.  Husker offense could not run that well against the D of Okie State (sad state of affairs right there).  The Husker pass D got lit up in the 1st half..WAY too many jump balls that the Okie State receivers went up and got and beat the Husker Defender (Prince).  Very good D adjustments were made at hafltime (check the box scores) by huskers, but still, a game where they were up by 17 with a few minutes to go (closed to 10 with another jump ball), the Huskers have major issues on both sides of the ball..it is becoming apparent that Huskers are a good team, but nowhere near a top 10 team....way too many holes...
Sportsmind says:

POISON66 says:
10/20/10 03:15PM
Lets see, they've faced W.Kentucky, Idaho, Washington , Kansas State, Texas, and the ever powerful South Dakota State. None of those pose much of a passing threat, congrats on that #1 pass defese rating. It's going to tumble this week, unless the running game kills you, then it may not. Hunter will run for at least 140, Randle may pile some yards as well..........

All this talk about poor defense and good offense, anyone on the over 58.5?
Firebird27 says:
10/20/10 05:47PM
Based on the Dudley YPPT comparing the last 4 games and the power rankings, this game in Stillwater is a dead heat. With that said, why are the Cowboys +5.5 dogs?

This spread has more to do with public perception, linesmakers not wanting to put the spread near a key number and how these come into this match up.

Public perception: OSU quality wins. Last week on the road at TT as a 3 pt dog. At home to A&M by 3. Nebraska quality wins. Blowout road wins at Washington and K-State.

Linesmakers: They set this line to keep it off the key numbers 3 and 7. Nuff said.

How this game sets up:

OSU - they are a hot team covering 4 straight, yet they struggled to cover at home to A&M and on the road to (cough) Louisiana-Lafayette. Both times OSU needed a monster 2nd half offensively to come back to win and cover. A lot of things have gone OSU's way to bounce back in these games to take the lead and go to win and cover.

Nebraska - they have failed to cover DD all season (1-3 covering a DD ATS). Vegas took note of their success last year covering against the patsies and adjusted the lines. They have shown they bounce back after disappointing outings (Look how they bounced back after Idaho and S Dakota St!). Historically, Nebraska has shown to bounce back mightily when held to 17 or fewer points.

Overall, I think this is a good bounce back spot for Nebraska. OSU doesn't have the defense to slow down Nebraska even though they know what to do. They won't be able to stop the Nebraska QB because they simply don't have the personnel to do it. On the flip side, OSU's offense and Nebraska's defense are facing their stiffest test to date. Neither side has seen as good a unit. I think Nebraska will be able to force some turnovers and if they are able to put TDs on the board and OSU has to come from behind like they have in previous matchups, look for OSU to fail coming back.

Neb -5.5 is the pick.

ATX_HornsWin says:
10/23/10 10:35AM

This line looks so far off that it makes me hesitate. I've watched both teams in person. So far I have not been that empressed with a young OSU team except for the fact that they keep pulling out wins. I think that ends today. Neb is a good team that got exploited by the HORNS last week.

Here my take: when you give Will Muschamp 2 weeks to prepare his solid and fast defensive crew for a 1 demensional team, 9 times out of 10 Muschamp will beat you. OK st does not have that option and they wont be able to stop Neb offense even though they know what they are going to do.

This is my game of the week! I say Nebraska by 2 touch downs.

Passing Defense ranks according to Rivals.com

Washington State - 104th
Troy - 109th
Tulsa - 120th
Texas A&M - 101st
Lousiana Lafayette - 113th
Texas Tech - 117th

Nebraska - 1st

Lenberg says:
10/20/10 03:48PM

I'm just saying successful passing QB's have had trouble against Nebraska's secondary.  Look at these two "NFL caliber" QB's:

Nathan Enderle 16/31, 141 yds, 1 TD, 5 INT

Jake Locker 4/20, 71 yds,  1 TD, 2 INT

It's just like Nebraska's inflated rushing rankings againt shitty rush defense teams.  But Nebraska has a good D.  They held Texas to 20 and no team has scored 22 or more in 12 games. They held big bad Daniel Thomas to 63 yards in 22 attempts and 0 TD's.

OSU doesn't have the speed or talent on defense that Texas has.  Nebraska has also been playing very well on the road.  Martinez will break a few plays.  I don't think benching him against Texas will affect his performance, he was sat against SDSU as well (and that was alot closer game than the score reflects)

Texas has Nebraska's number, I'll be the first to admit.  The pressure and hype of the Texas game got to them, missed tackles, dropped passes, missed blocks, penelties.  They straight up played like shit against Texas.

But Nebraska beats Okie Lite by 17 this Saturday.

RJSizzle says:
10/20/10 02:17PM

Come on Lenberg...show me where those stats come from! I dont need to know one decent stat that will make your argument look ok.

They are so good against the pass because teams dont pass on them. They can run the ball all game with success.

They give up more than 150ypg on the ground. They arent even top 50.

They just lost SU to a team that only attempted 16 passes all game.

RJSizzle says:
10/20/10 12:02PM

You cant really say this either way. The evidence proves you wrong.

But, you also cant say the passes will be this accurate.

I love the black and white talk. This will happen. This wont happen.

RJSizzle says:

RJSizzle says:
10/20/10 04:06PM

Your first sentence should be a clear indicator of really how bad this rush defense is. I mean, with that outlier taken out, their terrible rushing #s go up more.

You dont need to be worrying about what OSU doesnt have. You need to worry about what they do have - and thats an offense that can dance circles around most of the NCAA. Blackmon? Yeah, hes a matchup nightmare.

soonboomer says:

I guess we will agree to disagree.  I think the step up in competition for OSU's offense it greater than the step up for Nebraska's defense.  Nebraska is favored for a reason.  I'll pass on the game, but if I had to play it, I'd lean to the Bugeaters.  We shall see.

Texas Tech is a mere shell of the teams Leach put on the field during his tenure in Lubbock.  This line looks about right to me.  Anybody thinking this is a lock either way is fooling themselves.  Both teams have major questions to answer.  Perhaps removing the orange colored glasses will provide a clearer picture.
