Took a bath in week 1 last season.  Not exactly keeping my powder dry, but treading a little more lightly this time around.

Will add more, but let's start with BSU vs V TEch.

I'm a BSU believer.  What a great story and great program.  Great coaching, great weapons, giant killer. But...not so fast- they're traveling a lllllllong way to play a very good team.  All eyes will be on Kellen Moore, while they should be on Tyrod Taylor.  I'm betting that this will be the Tyrod Taylor show, both passing and running.  Moore will likely get his, but I don't care.  I say it won't be enough in the end. Tyrod's got the running game behind him with two totally capable RBs, and as a result he'll connect with the only two returning WR's in the country to have 30 or more receptions with an average 20+ yards per in the country last season.  Beamer knows how to work this thing.  How many times have we seen this scenario?  BSU's team hasn't played in front of a crowd like this.  Huge numbers and riotous atmosphere, even if it's not Blacksburg.

Concerns for the VTech defense?  Sure, the Hokie's defense is starting 7 new, but I don't care.  BSU is on the road, and I think this Hokie team is sick of hearing about BSU (91,000 people will let them know). Hokies in the dawg role is money here.

VTech +3...I'll go with the ML when it's FINALLY posted at Bookmaker (fockers, hurry up).

Absolutely agree.  VT has superior talent, excellent coaching home field advantage, grass playing surface and humidity.  I have been consistent in saying that I don't think this game will be very close.  Tech WILL win this game.

 BOL this season bro!!!

jimmy's back!!  Good luck this season!!  I'm damn tempted to SJUS and those points...I think Bama made not show much...but, they could route them 75-0 if they want.  That's a little scary.

KSU,  I think Jimmy made good pt. about the grass surface and the humidity. It's those small things that can make a huge difference. V. Tech or nothing for me.

I saw SMU +14 at Bookmaker today. Starting to like that one . Opinions??

KSU -2.5

No time for a sufficient write up.  Maybe I'll add more later.  I'm still pissed about the issues I had getting a deposit in.  Missed KSU plus the points.

I think UCLA is a fish out of water here.  The pilot will be lucky to hit the runway in Manhattan.  Strange surroundings and far from an ideal trip for them.  I think this game will come down to Snyder being able to play keep away from UCLA.  If the Bruins don't get the ball enough, they won't win on the road.  KSU's running game, paved with the biggest (Snyder system- he likes the big uglies, not the fleet-footed types) and most experienced OL they've had in a while, can make this happen.  If you haven't watched Daniel Thomas at RB yet, enjoy.

Coffman will start at QB.  I don't know that he'll keep the starting job beyond 3 or 4 games...I doubt it.  He's got some talent, but he's very mistake prone.  He has a very hard time checking down WR's.  He doesn't know how to elude the big hit.  But he can run a little, and he will have weapons around him.  Watch for Thomas in the Wildcat formation.  Watch for Brodrick Smith and Chris Harper at WR.  Snyder will show some interesting stuff IF he has to.  Snyder will poke and prod til he finds something that works.  Just when you think the offense is inept, things will happen.  The talent is there. Most importantly, the OL should be able to get it done for the offense.

KSU's defense can be had through the air.  But will Prince have time to deliver the ball when he has to?  I don't see the Bruins having a lot of success on the ground to set it up, so this could be an issue.  KSU's DL doesn't have a ton of reps together, but they do have some experience and talent.  Brandon Harold (All American freshman at DE) returns after sitting out the entire year with an injury.  Prizell Brown (converted TE) has bulked up to 290 at Tackle, and supposedly hasn't lost speed.  All reports about the DL have been positive out of summer practice.

As everyone knows, the Bruins have had some horrible luck with injuries at key positions.  This isn't going to help them.  Prince has missed valuable reps and might be a bit fragile.  He'll take some hits.  UCLA has talent, but I think Neuheisel is a bit shy of where he needs to be to win a roadie here.  The Bruin win last season wasn't in the bag until late, and Snyder did well to throw this KSU team together as quickly as he did.

I expect a fairly ugly game that KSU will win.  Again, I wish like hell I could have gotten + points, but I'll take it anyway.  Nail biter, I have a feeling.  I will probably take the KSU ML with minus points as well.  UCLA's kicker scares the shit out of me.

A buddy of mine likes SMU.  I do too, but not enough to bet them (yet).  I think TTech will have some issues.  I know Tuberville says he's not going to change a lot and he's going to use what's there to his advantage, but it's a FACT that the Tech offense has operated on timing, timing, timing, for years.  A break-up in coaching and systems can't be a good thing.  Might hurt them more than your typical team that doesn't operate by shooting the lights out every possession.

Humidity could be a factor for UCLA at KSU...I hope it's muggy as hell, as it typically is.

you thinking under for the ksu/ucla game? or maybe at least 1st h under?

ksuwins says:
08/30/10 11:21PM

Very tempting, yes.  My only hesitation is KSU's secondary that could give up some plays...and KSU's potential to score in this environment.  Things are reaching a fever pitch around Manhattan and KC.  Nevertheless, I think the Under is worth a look.  I'll likely tease it with a few other totals and push it toward 50 or more pts.

"I think UCLA is a fish out of water here.  The pilot will be lucky to hit the runway in Manhattan."

They were a fish out of water in Knoxville last year and beat Tennessee (who are better than KSU). UCLA has issues, but this game will show the superiority of athletes from Southern California.

I think the Vols were a team that provided a JUST A BIT more motivation than a team in Manhattan, KS.  75% of Bruin fans will be surprised to see a Wildcat mascot instead of a Jayhawk when they watch the game on the tube.

Superior athletes?  Perhaps top-to-bottom.  I think home field and coaching advantage far outweighs the small edge in athletes.

Great to see you back this season bro!!!

SJSU is horrible, and Saban will have Bama spitting nails.  I'll be playing Bama -21 (or whatever) 1st Half.

jimmy - I'm still thinking about that Bama first half.  Gotta make another deposit if I'm gonna do it, though.  It IS a later game.  Could wait to see what happens with earlier action.  Absence of Ingram won't mean shit.

KSU, Saban has these guys chewing nails.  He has let everyone know that all starting positions are up for grabs in this game.  Saban has prepared the team for San Jose St. as if it's the game of the year. He is telling the players to understand that their performance in this game will determine a lot of playing time for the first half of the season, so they better take their preparation going into this game seriously if they want to be a factor.  Basically he has extended fall practice by a week.  God I feel sorry for SJSU.  I wouldn't want to face what they are going to see tomorrow.

I like -23 (1st Half) and -37.5.  Those are "Best Bet" lines for me!!!  I can't see Bama missing either of those marks.

Great discussion in this thread.  Here's my 2 cents.

Bama's chance of covering the spread and going over the total is improved because their backups are legit.  Of course everyone knows about Trent Richardson (who should have a huge day), but Bama fans can't wait to get a glimpse of Eddie Lacy, another stud RB who is behind TR on the depth chart.  Then you got backup QB AJ McCarron who has looked great all summer.  Basically, you are going to get to see Saban's last 3 top 5 recruiting classes for the first time.  My guess is the backups don't miss a beat against SJST, compared to let's say a team like UF who has a lot more uncertainty at backup QB and 2nd string skill positions.

I just read the writeups off both the KSU and UCLA Rivals site and both believe this game will be won by the team that can run the ball.  On paper, that favors KSU who has an awesome RB and especially since UCLA replaced it's whole front 7 on defense and KSU has a veteran O Line.  Then you have the QB situation at UCLA.  As a Vol fan, I've seen UCLA's QB's the last 2 years and they were not impressive (even though they beat us!).  UCLA's QB's are going to turn the ball over.

But then you have to factor in UCLA's kicking game, which may be the best in the nation.  That probably means that K State will be pinned deep in their own territory on a lot of drives.  And since KSU's bread and butter is running the ball, that makes for some long and timely drives which equals a low scoring ball game.  Plus, UCLA is going to get points whenever they can and will probably settle for Field Goals early on, which also means a low scoring game.

In conclusion, if I bet on this game I'm taking KSU and the UNDER.

Best of luck tomorrow everyone.
