Adding V Tech +2.5

Disclaimer:  I've been horrid on Saturdays...stellar on Thursday's as evidenced by my writeup of the USC/Ole Miss game.

V Tech +2.5

I thought it should be V Tech -2.5, but Phile Steele's Northcoast line is Miami -6, so what do I know?  I say special teams will come up big.  They ALWAYS do in these games, despite the QB/RB/Defense glory that's always handed out.  Anyway...here ya go:

-Has Miami really done that much by winning a 50/50 shootout vs FSU, then beating a one-dimensional G Tech team at home?  Positive start, but not exactly awe-inspirint.

-Jacory Harris has had his way so far.  Nobody can convince me that G Tech has a defense and secondary like V Tech's. Harris is going on the road in conference and it won't be nearly as easy.  Some of his long connections have been a bit lucky in my opinion (11 yds per completion, for cryin' out loud), and some of the bombs have been snap decisions by Harris where he just rifled the ball and hit.  He won't get away with that in Blacksburg.

-Tyrod and V Tech haven't moved the ball that well.  So they'll have to do a lot of other things right, which I think they can (TO's, special teams, all-purpose yardage).

-Speaking of moving the ball, V Tech is way out in front in the ever-important rushing category at 198 yds per game (2nd in the ACC to G Tech) while Miami averages 137 (tied for 8th).

-Miami has some very impressive kick return stats, averaging 30 yds per shot.  They won't have that luxury vs V Tech, as they are #4 in the ACC in kick coverage, and Beamer's special teams are always special.  SPECIAL TEAMS

-Speaking of kick returns, V Tech is #1 in the ACC averaging 30.8 while Miami is #11 in kick return COVERAGE in the ACC(#66 in the country). SPECIAL TEAMS

-V Tech is 2nd in the ACC in punting avg at 38.1.  Miami is 2nd to last at 33...punting will be big in this game. V Tech averages 17.5 per punt return.  Miami averages 5.2.  SPECIAL TEAMS

-I think that the media is so hellbent on Miami being back (and Randy Shannon becoming a media darling) that there is a little hype here.  Ole Miss come to mind?

Special teams can win this game. I hate to take V Tech after that total luck-ass win vs NU...and after that game I'd convinced myself that Tyrod wasn't ready...but holy shit, HOW OFTEN CAN YOU GET V TECH AS A DOG?!?!?!  I'll take the special teams of V Tech (field position) and their ability to run the ball.

I so want to get on them but the fact I am 0-2 betting against Miami is enough for me to pass.

Hope your right.  Good stat about punting yardage, Brent Bowden is a great punter.

Good Luck

I think Bama will cover, but I won't have any money on it.  I do like the game to OVER 58 however.  Bama may get 50 of them by themselves!!!

WTF! FM! HOLY $H1T!!!

I have opened two posts, and both have had EXCELLENT write up's about why a team might win. I have recently gotten used to Team X,Y, and Z will roll because someone seen a run over house cat being eaten by a buzzard on the side of the road while driving to a buddies house to watch the Good Year blimp broadcast the golf tourny in the rain.

Good Job bro, and BOL

At least you backed up your play with information. Goodluck, I'll probably be on the same side.

I think Va. Tech is the play here.  Line SHOULD be like Va. Tech +1 or +1.5, taking the points is definitely in order here.  2 of Miami's starting D linemen are out for this game as well

It is gambling, you have to draw assumptions everywhere. Even Miami backers are just assuming that Jacory is going to be able to have his way. He has yet to hit the turf this year for the most part. When FSU got pressure on him, he threw a pick 6. VT has to corners to press Miami early in the play and not allow Harris his quick outlet. Does Randy Shannon press if Miami goes down early? Does VT stick with running the ball if they are trailing by more than 10 points? I just dont know.

Looks like someone needs to reread my post.  V Tech one-dimensional?  Sure.  They have excellent special teams, and they're playing at home, so I don't care.

Miami shut G Tech's run game down in a huge revenge game AT HOME.  Big difference.

I addressed Miami's kick returns.

"You acknowledge that last week's win over Nebraska was lucky, you acknowledge that Tyrod Taylor isn't ready, but then you take VT just because they are a home dog and you are banking on winning this game with special teams? "

Looks like you read at least some of it.  This game could come down to punting and punt returns.  And if it does, V Tech wins.
