Trying to settle an argument here with another poster named supadame.  Are the 1972 Dolphins the best NFL team of all time because they ended up with a perfect record that season.  To post please post with a thumbs up if you think they are or a thumbs down if you think the best NFL team is quite arguable perfect record or not.  supadame i am a man of democracy if this thread gets more thumbs up than thumbs down i will apologize to you and you have to do the same if it is more thumbs down.  If posters want they can elaborate on there direction of thumbs but please at least post with a thumbs up or thumbs down.  Thanks.  This should be real interesting.

Thumbs DOWN! They may have been the best team of their time. But definately not ALL-TIME. If that team was playing in todays game, they may make the playoffs at best. Todays athlete is bigger, faster, stronger. Defensive schemes are much better. Just think of the "Bears 46" and the "Tampa 2" (I hope I said those right). Those defenses were not even around then. Could you imagine the Dolphins offense facing the Bears D (back in the day), Lawrence Taylor, Ray Lewis for example. The Pats of a few years ago would've absolutely destroyed the '72 Dolphins. And with the modern athlete and todays game, I don't think they would fair nearly as well. Mercury Morris and the rest of the "Bitter Dolphins" need to go away. Maybe try to show some class the next time a team is trying to go undefeated. Instead of all the trash talk. Because if they played todays team, Vegas would be giving them over a TD (+9.5) or even more. Sorry, just my opinion.

Hockeytown.. That is not relevant... The '99 Rams couldn't hang with most teams today.. The '85 Bears wouldn't hang with most teams either.. The game changes all the time and you have to compare teams with that of their own era...

That being said.. Coach Mike Ditka puts it exactly right.. "They were undefeated, we were the best." The teams that I think are the best of all time are as such..

'98 Broncos

'99 Rams

'84 9ers

'85 Bears

'72 Fins

'92 Cowboys

'77 cowboys

'04 Pats

'66 Packers

'00 Ravens...

Any Cleveland Brown team that featured Otto Graham and Jim Brown, but they were not in Super Bowl era

Rank em however you want to.. Just some other ones

The 1995 Cleveland Indians Award to best team to never win it:

2007 Patriots

2nd: '98 Vikes

5. '78 Steelers

6. '92 Cowboys

7. '98 Broncos

8. '77 Cowboys

9. '00 Ravens

10. '04 Pats

11. '99 Rams

OK, to answer the question that was asked.

"Are the 72 Doldhins the greatest team of ALL TIME?"

MY Opinion is : NO

Oh and if you read the first line in my post, I say they were the best team of "their time". Rebman, you are somewhat saying the same thing I am saying. I just didn't deam it necessary to list teams that are in fact better. I just gave a few examples as to why they are not best of ALL TIME. Which, was in fact the question being asked.

Yes....best of all-time relative to their competition...no way we can ever tell if one team would beat another team as none of them will ever play against each other....they may not be the fastest or biggest or whatever but they had plenty of all-around weapons, could control both sides of the ball, great coaching....all of the ingredients of a 'TEAM"

thumbs down

Noone ever list 91 Redskins who demolished most opponents that season. That isn't to say that they were the best.

I think a credential has to be made it to the big game with the same cast twice. So, 70s Steelers, Raiders, Cowboys..80s Skins, 9ers..90s Packers, Broncos, Cowboys, 00s Steelers, Rams, Pats, Colts have to all be in the oonvo.

Ill take any of the 70s Steelers teams along with the late 80s 9ers as the two greatest teams ever.
