The Internet Can be Seized and Shut Down by the Govt, If

If a bill by Sen Jay Rockefeller gets passed, the White House can take control of the Internet.  Just by declaring a "cybersecurity" emergency.

We all knew it was coming - the totalitarian-minded greatly admire the way China controls the Net, with the help of google, yahoo, etc

Does being religious make you a better person?

Or a worse one?   Worst person I ever knew personally was an elderly born-again Christian in a neighborhood I used to live in.  Old guy and his wife would call the town Code Enforcement for every little thing. (Every town has a huge code book - every other property in Anytown,USA has something in violattion)   Once tho, he wanted me to cut an old black walnut tree on my property.  Said the leaves were falling into his little backyard pool. It wasn't a code violation, otherwise he would have dropped a dime on me.   I offered to go up and cut the offending overhanging limbs.  He refuused - because he'd paid a service to cut another tree on his own property, and hey give him a "two for one" price.  Which I didn't know at the time   I heard the noise in the yard one Sat morn, and rushed out.  The tree company was ready to cut. Told me "the owner" gave them permission and paid for it.   I told them NO.  The Christian's wife came over and told me that since they had lived in that house for over 50 years they had the right to cut my tree.   The degenerate in California who kidnapped the 11 year old and kept her for years is a fanatic Christian.   The people who pushed for UIGEA - the law that harassed offshore books regarding using US banks to send withdrawal money - were born-again Christians.  Typically of sneak tactics, they pushed that law thru under cover of an unrelated Port Security bill. &nbs... What are YOUR 3 Favorite U.S. Cities?

For whatever reason. But list your reasons!

Could be a big smorgasbord of spectator sports (like, Dallas has that, but I don't like Big D in general); or, a lot of great recreational activities and opportunites; or cultural events or historical sites; possibly a good vaiety of great restaurants in all price ranges; perchance a plethora of good-looking women; maybe a relatively low crime rate; or just some very nice, welcoming residents.

Whatever. It's not a scientific survey, just what some folks who also wager on sports might like. (Tho hope we don't get too many name Vegas as their big fave!)  Also OK if you live in or near your fave - to be expected.

CANADA: Political Correctness Out of Control?

Saw this on a site while travelling a month or so ago - while waiting to check out of the room. Read it fast, I hope it's bogus - too scary to be true.   Tho the stories sound just crazy enough to be true, but let me await confirmation or no from a bonafide Canadian.   1)  A comedy club comic is doing his act late nite in Vancuover.  Two very drunk lesbians begin to heckle him - viciously.   He responds, and notes their obvious gayness in his counter barbs.   The gay gals later contact one of what seem to be ubiquitous Human Rights Commissions all over Canada, and complain abojut the comic's insensitive and hateful behavior. (Tho I wonder how someone like Don Rickles would have savaged them if he'd been the target of their venom?)   The Human Rights Commssion ordered the comic to pay a hefty fine.   These commissions seem to be all over Canada.  Not just to enforc fairness in employment and housing, but to act as a kind of Thought Police, to punish any manisfestation of what they might deem to be racism, sexism, genderism, ageism ---- all the usual proscribed isms.   2)  This is even worse.   Guy owns a bar in Central Canada.  A potential customer enters, smoking  a joint. (It's apparently legal to do so in Canada - which is good - if you have a doctor's prescription)   Bar owners regular customer's complain - and remind the bar owner that smoking in bars is prohibited in Canada....
