What are YOUR 3 Favorite U.S. Cities?

For whatever reason. But list your reasons!

Could be a big smorgasbord of spectator sports (like, Dallas has that, but I don't like Big D in general); or, a lot of great recreational activities and opportunites; or cultural events or historical sites; possibly a good vaiety of great restaurants in all price ranges; perchance a plethora of good-looking women; maybe a relatively low crime rate; or just some very nice, welcoming residents.

Whatever. It's not a scientific survey, just what some folks who also wager on sports might like. (Tho hope we don't get too many name Vegas as their big fave!)  Also OK if you live in or near your fave - to be expected.

Umm, let's see --- 'cause I'm not 15 any more?

luckbythetruck says:

No, but if you like it ---- home is where the heart is, so they say

luckbythetruck says:

we agree on top two, must mean I'd like Killington - one day I'll get there in the fall, with all the other rubbernecks

Tour each of these fine metro areas for 3 days each. If still alive take on downtown Detroit for a week.  If still alive send your entire paycheck in on the lottery -  'cause you're an extremely lucky person

I was never there long enough to judge.  Do like the way th natives pronounce their "Rs".

"I like saving money, so I'm always on the lookout for a boggin.,and I'm not a potty person"

Don't know upper NE, know residents and winter fun lovers like it.,

Tahoe I know, lived there a long time ago. Nice, Wonder if they stopped to pollution of that terrific lake?  Truckee has murderous whiteout blizzards . . .

luckbythetruck says:

been in Portland, been in Austin, home of the Horns

Reed College in Portland, once went with a gal that attended - huge brain college

Hey, 3 days is good.

Traffic is bad there, ditto tolls. I don't talk politics tho when I'm a visitor - tho in the '20s I think it was notorious for the execution of famous anarchists Sacco & Vanzetti . . .wonder if there's now an Italian restauirant there with that name???

luckbythetruck says:
07/20/09 11:01AM

Two out of 3 - all three are fun towns tho, lots to see and do and places to go

luckbythetruck says:
07/20/09 11:04AM

Two big metros, and one in the NE country

Several such replies, interesting

No one yet picking Vegas . . . .??

1. Chicago

Don't know about where I rank everything else.  NYC is up there somewhere.  I still have yet to visit Boston or any city in California, so waiting to hit San Diego.  I hear great things about it.  I love Oklahoma City for nostalgic reasons.  But by far, Chi-town is the greatest city in the U.S., especially in the summertime.

living in Las Vegas I have to agree with JerryJones although it would be nice to have a summer place on the Nevada side of the Lake Tahoe. it's absolutely beautiful and VERY laid back.

btw, Spitfire15, you might want to add Vegas to your list. OODLES of transplanted Steeler and Penguin fan 'Burgers here

A lot of you guys listed little towns that are one street (ie:ski towns) that go about 300 yards and have people 3 months a year)...

I saw Truckee, Ca.

Yes, that is a cool truck stop on the way to Reno, and along the long way to Lake Tahoe.....Squaw Valley is I guess 20 miles South, but not a City.......Lake Tahoe (any part of it, still not a city)

Killington Vermont??? You skiied there once, and it has an impact on you....

Cities have more than 250,000 people. C'mon kids......Too funny.

also Lafayette, Louisiana for Cajun food

mmac66 says:

Not sure about cities in New Mexico, shrimp. New Mexico is a beautiful place but to me the cities there are really lacking and I've spent quite a bit of time in the "Land of Enchantment".....I can't stand Albuquerque. Santa Fe is unique but I don't really care for it too much. I kind of like Las Cruces with NMSU but it hardly fits city criteria, the same goes for Los Alamos. Roswell, Gallup, Grants, Santa Rosa, Truth or Consequences, Silver City.....not my cup of tea. I like the state but not the cities. I would guess I am not alone in my assessment of the state.

Charleston is a very cool, unique city....I'm just more of western US person so Charleston didn't make the list. But it is one of my favorites. Good call.

1 salt lake city--- have to give some love to my adopted home city... If your into the outdoors-hiking camping fishing and of course skiing and snowboarding....  Many a time I have skied or snowboarded in the morning at one of a handful of world class resorts with an hour drive and played nine holes later that afternoon...  has a rep of a mormon city but just read that less than 40 percent of the 1.2 million people in the county are mormon..  probably way less active mormons..

2. san fran/bay area

3 chicago

4 before i go i put  las vegas up there.. after sleeping 10 hours in three days and having fuzzy memories of at least two of the three nights and having a pocket full of credit card receits i cant remember i put LV near the bottom...

Orlando is painful.

Like being at a strip mall without water.  Causes dehydration.

FriedShrimp says:
07/20/09 08:45PM
What's with all the Chicago love?...... It is not even in the same league as NYC.  That and the girls can get a little beefy there.
FriedShrimp says:
07/20/09 08:53PM
Come to think of it, Orlando may be the absolute worst city in Florida and possibly on the entire East Coast.

FriedShrimp says:
07/20/09 08:54PM
After driving back from Miami, it's like nobody stops in Orlando for fear of becoming lobotomized.
FriedShrimp says:
07/20/09 05:24PM
Apache, if gonna talk Texas, the Hill Country makes San Antonio look like a bus stop.  And Houston is a swamp.

Nothing cooler than that limestone out there and crystal clear lake water.

Surprised no New Mexico or parts of New England mentioned.

FriedShrimp says:
07/20/09 05:19PM
Houston and San Antonio???

Northern San Diego (La Jolla) is very nice.

FriedShrimp says:
07/20/09 05:35PM
Yeah, NMex is not really cities but those "high plains" are kinda cool.  Gets cold at night though.

The Mississippi Delta is the mosts fertile aquatic area in the world and thus has more seafood than ANY PLACE in the world.

As far as cooking techniques, half of it is french, and the other half is Spanish and African.  That's where the name creole comes from.

Leave the cooking to me, go work on your Deltoids

i don't think you should be allowed to include Hawaii in this, because if you did, they would have the top 3... so my list excludes Hawaii...

2) San Diego

3) Boston

You guys really dislike Orlando that much? I mean, to each his own. I always have a blast when I go there.

San Diego also would be in my top 5.

vegasrebel417 says:

Too hard to narrow it down to 3...so here's 4

NYC - I'm a native New Yorker (Long Island to be more specific), enough said.

Orlando - Best of both worlds (literally). Great place for family with all of the top notch theme parks, then you got downtown for the adult fun (Wall St., Orange St., etc.) Had a blast there the day the Magic won to advance to the NBA finals. Hour from Cocoa Beach.

Vegas - current residence. Love the sports books, booze flowing like water, and the sports book. Love to catch the Rebels games as a student.

L.A. - Great weather, beaches, great theme parks, plenty of sports teams.
