What’s up gents.  Yesterday’s action was awful.  The first half of the Memphis/Charlotte game was one of the worst 24 minutes of basketball I have seen in about 2 years...Memphis barely got over 29 points for the half and ended up hitting a 3 to surpass that historic low.  Little did I know that later that night I would witness a 27 point 2nd half by the Detroit Pistons.  D Town I can understand due to their consistent lack of effort, but Memphis was just not themselves at all and their lack of heart was inexcusable last night.  Aaron Brooks returned to his headline ways of 2009/2010 with his first start of the season.  He rocked the Garden and led his team to victory.  Patrick Patterson is one of many rookies I have been impressed with, he along with Gordan Hayward, Evan Turner and Greg Monroe, although they are not superstars and in my opinion never will be, their careers in the NBA will be long.

Tonight we have a nice slate of games.  I am going to be busy until about 5-6 pm tonight.  Want to get some thoughts in early.  Will drop by early afternoon or early evening to finalize the card and respond to thoughts.  As always fellas I wish you nothing but the best of luck.  Peace - - - MAK

INDIANA PACERS (14-20) @ PHILADELPHIA 76ERS (15-22)

I give a lot of credit to Doug Collins.  I always enjoyed his skills as an analyst.  He reminds me a lot of a Raptors commentator I respect highly named Jack Armstrong.  Whenever late game situations arise they can always map out exactly what the respective coaches are thinking, they are usually spot on.  Doug Collins is doing something better than any coach in the league this year...he is adapting to a 9 man rotation with relative ease.  That can be very difficult but he assigns his players roles, shot distribution and they listen.  I was a doubter of Jrue Holiday, I thought he was too young to lead a team, needed Andre Miller to mentor him, some type of vet...incorrect.  Holiday is just fine, progressing faster than I thought.  In his last 5 games, in terms of efficiency Jrue is the 4th best PG in the NBA, only Rondo, Paul and Rose have done more than him.  Averaging 19 points and 9 assists with minimal turnovers, this youngster is going to be a great general in this league.  The addition of Iggy tonight should not disrupt the flow of the Sixers.  If he comes off the bench to begin with, it would allow Jodie Meeks to remain as a starting two.  He never really forces shots and rarely has a bad shooting game.  He can also easily explode from beyond the arc.  Iggy or Meeks relegated to the bench, adds even more offensive depth to a stellar 2nd unit.  Philly’s bench is #2 in the NBA in terms of points scoring about 38 a game.  Evan Turner, Young and Williams are potent, Speights has been helping out as a big and the addition of either Iggy, Meeks or Nocioni to an already potent 2nd unit will be killer.  Indiana’s success early on was due to Roy Hibbert an Danny Granger.  Roy is now seeking professional help to get his game back on track, he admittedly states it is all mental and is scheduled to see a shrink.  Granger is not stepping up and being the star he is, he seems to be lost in the flow of offense at times, his scree cuts are lazy and he seems disinterested at times.  Philly plays tough at home and should take this one.  Strongly considering a small play although I do not like the line where it is at the moment.

MILWAUKEE BUCKS (14-21) @ ATLANTA HAWKS (25-14)

Boston, Houston, Utah and Dallas are top 4 in the NBA in

assists per game.  Each of those teams

have potent point guards who can move the ball, space the floor and penetrate

and kick....the Atlanta Hawks do not...so why are they # 5 in the NBA?  Because in my opinion, no one in the NBA

moves the ball better than the Hawks.

Josh Smith, Al Horford, Joe Johnson are all underrated premier passers

in this game.  Their size and offensive

ability allow them to see gaps and create openings.  Mike Bibby is no slouch at his age

either.  The Hawks are a very unselfish

team and due to their ball movement they will continue to be a top tier team in

this league.  The Hawks recent surge can

be contributed to one player.  Jamal

Crawford.  In his last 5 games he is top

10 in the NBA in scoring.....do people realize how amazing that really is....in

the top 50 scorers in the NBA in the last 10 games....only one of them comes

off the bench and that’s Jamal.  Having a

player who can easily score 20 points off the bench is an extraordinary asset

to have.  Jamal is an intelligent dude

who has put his contract concerns aside and realized what he needs to do to

make money and cash a lucrative contract is just straight out ball.  He

is doing exatly that, 26 points per game, 5 assists and shooting 50% from

distance, simply outstanding.  Milwaukee

however is coming off 2 confidence building games.  A close encounter with Ringo Star and his

minions, and a decisive win in New Jersey with an offensive outburst from many

members.  Confidence will be high, I like

Corey getting more time.  Tricky game to

cap with or without Bogut, this one will all depend on the spread.  Am hoping the oddsmakers make a mistake on

this one and create some value either way.

SACRAMENTO KINGS

(8-26) @ WASHINGTON WIZARDS (9-26)

I hate placing money on bad teams but if Tyreke actually

suited up I would consider a wager on Sac.

He is doubtful and even if he does play I doubt I would actually have

the balls to place money on Sacramento.

McGee and Blatche are two studs in the paint but are inconsistent and

don’t have the right mentality....sort of like Cousins.  But there is something about the young

immature Cousins, Mak can’t quite put his finger on it....if he ever got a

veteran like Charles Oakley, Michael Jordan, Kevin Garnett to just give him one

back-hand across the face and tell him shut his mouth and know his role...he

could be great.  He has greatness written

all over him, size, strength, agility and hands are things that cannot be

taught.  Mental stability and inner

growth can be, in 5 years this kid will either be one of the best 5 men in the

league, or playing alongside A.I in Turkey.

Both teams could contend for worst in their respective conference, why

even bother with this game with other profitable opportunities on the slate?

SAN ANTONIO SPURS (31-6) @ MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES (9-29)

Can’t wait to see the line on this one.  12-3 now betting on or against “my” Tims this

season, by far the team I have bet on the most.

The 2nd place team comes in at a measly 5 total times bet on or

against.  May decide to make yet another

wager on the Tims but this is contingent on many things.  If Beas plays tonight combined with a

reasonable spread, I will go for the home dogs to cover the points.  If Beasley does not suit up, I still may back

the Tims but only if they start Tolliver.

If they decide to start Wesley Johnson I will pass on the spread

depending on how high it is.  I would

just prefer Anthony start if Beas is a no go and think it could lead them to a

cover.  Corey Brewer did what he needed

to do against Manu once again, For the last 2 years Manu has shot the worst percentage

of his career against Corey.  Brewer gets

up on him, plays tight on screen and rolls, does not give him any room to position his hands and really

frustrates Manu.  Darko seems to be

healthy again and is really doing the subtle things that opened my eyes early in the

season.  If he is back to his early

season ways, watch out.  Ridnour continues

to provide consistent veteran minutes and lead this team, Johnny is starting to

get in a grove and Webster is an offensive threat.  Kevin Love is the best rebounder this league

has seen since Dennis Rodman, he deserves to be an all-star, I could care less

what the Tims record is.  Hoping for a

value-filled line.

PHOENIX SUNS (15-20) @ DENVER NUGGETS (20-16)

I don’t think I have ever seen this in the NBA, a trade that

is imminent, players who have no idea weather to pack or not and yet still play

continues.  What is the point of even

playing?  Whatever is holding up this

deal needs to get resolved and from what I hear it is minuscule things, Denver

wanting to dump Harrington’s salary and Detroit’s reluctance to take Johan

Petro to name a few, seriously just get this shit done so we can get a feel for the landscape

of the NBA.  Can’t bet for the Nugs and

despite all those who want to fade them at this point, I just cannot see myself

doing that right now. Capping these types of games are very dangerous, there

are plenty of anomalies.  Maybe a trade

will happen today and we can get a better idea and feel for the game although I

doubt it, Denver feels they are in no rush, might as well keep Billups,

Mello and Harrington for as long as they can before the deadline and rack up some

wins....that could be a big mistake, no cohesiveness, camaraderie  or trust equals

devastating consequences.

NEW YORK KNICKS (21-15) @ PORTLAND TRAIL-BLAZERS (20-18)

Love this game, will be a 5 unit play for me maybe

more.  Portland on the moneyline is as

good as it gets tonight.  This is a team that New

York just does not match up against at all.

The absence of Dino is phasing them a bit more than I suspected.  Galo was one guy who consistently got to the

free throw line.  He not only gave them

easy buckets but got opposing team players into foul trouble.  His range and driving ability cannot be

matched by Shawne Williams.  Galo is also

a decent on-the-ball defender and Shawne is not.  Williams may not start....at least he shouldn’t.  Dantonti would be an idiot to start him,

instead look for Turiaf.  Either way Amar’e

and Turiaf are going to be swallowed whole by Camby and Big L.  In his last five games, Aldridge has been a

BEAST.  In the last 5 games, he has scored more than anyone at his

position with 28 points per game and has grabbed 12 rebounds a game as well. He is blocking

shots, changing shots in the lane and really taking over when needed.  In Camby’s last 5 games, he is rebounding and

blocking as much as Dwight Howard...that tells you the kind of asset the

Blazers have down low on a nightly basis.

13 rebounds and 2 blocks a game in his last 5, Camby’s wingspan will

cause Amar’e a lot of problems.  Amar’e

has a sweet jumpshot, but while in Phoenix always seemed to have problems

getting a clean shot off against Marcus.

The length of his arms allows him to keep his feet back in case of an

Amar’e take to the rim, yet still gets a hand up in his face on jumpshots.  Aldridge is 6”11 and there is no power

forward on the Knicks roster that can handle him.  Wilson Chandler always uses his size and

agility to take small forwards off the dribble, but tonight he meets Batum who

matches him pound for pound and inch for inch.

Dre has historically been a problem for Felton and Wesley and Landry are

a good matchup and will be fun to watch.

Patty Mills, Rudy, Joel and Dante will provide more efficieny off the

bench than Tony, Kill Bill and Shawne.

Rose Garden will be sold out for the 139th consecutive time,

Oregon fans are loyal and the Blazers will avenge Lebron’s victory tonight.

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS (8-29) @ LOS ANGELES LAKERS (27-11)

I think this line is spot on, everyone looking to cash on

double digit dog lines at Staples Centre due to the Lakers slow start are going to

be sorry.  Yes the Lakers lost to the

Griz and to the Bucks as well.  Two teams

that played good defense in order to beat the champs.  Cleveland is a horrific defensive team, they

will not be able to stop the Lakers at all.

For those worried about them playing down to their level, don’t worry so

much.  They are the champs, the talent

alone on this roster allows them to beat low-tier teams like the Cavs with

minimal effort.  Bynum, Gasol and Odom

are way too much for Hickson, Eyenga and Samuels to handle.  This may be a 15 point game at the half.  What Phoenix could not do to Cleveland 2

nights ago, the Lakers will do with ease.

The Lakers are an excellent teaser option tonight and depending on the

line movement I may add them as a small play.

I would have been absolutely disgusted if I was a Pistons backer last night. That was pathetic.

back-hand across the face and tell him shut his mouth and know his role...he

Couldn't have put that any better myself, mak -- Barkley himself said he was like Cousins coming into the league, completely immature, but that Moses Malone made him a man. It's a shame Cousins doesn't have someone like that on his team, a big man to be a combination in awe/fear of. Garnett would be perfect for that role, as would someone like Shaq.

IGreat job on the writeups Mak!

I completely agree! This is the perfect team at a perfect time for the Lakers to tee off on and quiet the fair weather fans and naysayers! I took -8.5 1st half so far, and will probably take the -15, hoping peeps will take the line down a bit more, but I see a 20 plus pt win!

you've been around this site for a while from what I hear maybe you can shed some light on this.  JLB was a capper that became really popular and people started tailing him.  JLB recently posted on his twitter that Covers offered him money to post square playes.  Do you believe this?

makaveli23 says:
01/11/11 05:32PM

You said it brother.  Thanks for the new year wishes, you as well.

I think you have this game capped correctly.  Phoenix is in trouble, their screen and roll defense is one of the worst in the league.  Marcin Gortat has officially proved......that he is a backup center or a role playing starting big at best.  He is not the pick and roll stallion I thought he would be.  Pietrus is lost in translation and if this team is going to rely on consistency from Dud, Lopez and Frye to win ball games....they are going to lose ball games.  Gun to my head I would say Denver covers this spread, as you stated, they may just translate their frustration into a run and gun push and if they play even a little D, this one is theirs.  Good luck bud.

I don't think despondency will be evident, in fact quite the opposite.  They let it slip away, they had Miami in a position they had not been in for over 20 games.  I am sure the intensity and effort will be there, but a jumpshooting team like New York can be very dangerous if they hit shots consistently.  Good luck allyjm, have always enjoyed your thoughts.

Trust me I understand what you are going through.  To watch your star's last game is not easy.  I was lucky enough to have to vivid memories of my star's leaving.  Vince crying and getting carried off the floor and Chris getting his face re-arranged.  Mello is different.  A true star, one of the best at his trade.  As someone in Colorado I am sure this sucks for you, shows you are a true basketball fan since you are going to see one of the best pure scorers ever up close while you can.  Have fun bud.

You're a funny guy.  I am glad I have time to respond to you today.  You seem to be the only consistently negative person in my thread every day.  I apologize for not being able to reply to you earlier but glad I have a chance now.  First off, I actually cal only get Tims +7 (-120) right now but games such as Philly I could get -4 at -120, also Lakers -14 is available at -120 as well.  There are many ways to obtain spreads at this cost.  The best and easiest way is to shop around, many books allow reduced juice and buying points programs.  Other online sporting books are popping up with user exchange where you can bet against specific individuals and their set lines.  The way I am able to obtain these lines is different.  If you contact many middle tier sports books (ex sportingbet.com) and contact their customer service agent prior to the season, all you need to do is speak to someone in upper management, deposit a large set amount and promise to keep it in the book for a specific amount of time.  I get reduced juice, cash bask rewards and most importantly much better lines when dropping 1 - 1.5 points.

I took the time to explain everything to you, even though I have explained this 3 times since the beginning of the season.  So I would like to actually kindly ask you just refrain from posting in my threads, even positive things.  I appreciate its a free forum and you can do what you please but I am asking nicely, one time.  Appreciate it, thanks and good luck.

UPDATED CARD:

PORTLAND TRAIL-BLAZERS - 3.0 (-115)
2.5 UNITS - - -

PORTLAND TRAIL-BLAZERS MONEYLINE (-160)
2.5 UNITS - - -

BLAZERS ML & LAKERS - 7.0 (+101)
1.5 UNITS - - -

STOUDAMIRE/ALDRIDGE + 6.5 PTS & REB (-175) - - - I think laying high juice props on a consistent basis is a recipe for disaster but I really like this one.  I see Amar'e getting about 21 pts and 9 rebounds tonight and Big L punching in 26 and 10.  I actually think he outplays Amar'e and it will show statistically as well.  Getting him catching 6.5 points and rebounds is a bit of a gift in my opinion.  But anything can happen when it comes to high risk plays like this.
2.5 UNITS BIG L'S FINEST - - -

LOS ANGELES LAKERS - 15 (-110)
1 UNIT - - -

Awesome word, I think I used it in one of my replies regarding the Lakers tonight.  I wasn't too messed up about it, I mean what could they do Bator?  When Lebron gets into that zone and shows confidence in his jump shot, he is nearly unstoppable.  Dwayne, Chris and Lebron are just dominating right now, I don't remember seeing this type of domination.....ever.  Jordan and Pippen still supersede the Heatles at this point but I can only imagine what the future has in store.  Yes Portland will be heart-broken but I think that fuels them, I don't suspect them to allow that loss to deflate their motivation.  They are still talented enough to make the West playoffs and with the twin towers down low combined with defensive intensity, the Blazers proved against the Heat they can beat anyone in the NBA at home.  Good luck Bator, always appreciate hearing from you.

Don't take my word for it, if I was that certain I would hit up the half time spread of 8.5 but I am not at all.  I just think that if Showtime plays to their level, this one could get very ugly.  Once again, always appreciate your thoughts.

I don't mean to be arrogant when I state this at all.  But I make a tremendous amount of money.  I am also extremely confident in my skills at handicapping this one sport.......I WOULD NEVER. EVER.  Lay that much on on a regular season game.  That is a little ridiculous bro.  In the national basketball association there is just so much sheer talent across the league.  Any given day, any given player can score 30 and completely change a game.  Betting in the NBA is about money management & confidence.  It is a marathon, not a sprint.  I would recommend hedging this bet even if you make half a mil a year, this is not intelligent wagering.

That is absolutely ludicrous.  Quite pathetic if he really did state that.  Covers is filled with so much intelligence yet all I see on a daily basis is absolute garbage from a bunch of childish degenerate gamblers.  I remember when some idiot when on a measly 11-2-1 run then got booted for trying to sell his picks.  All I read is how covers kicked him due to his percentage....are you all kidding me? This site could give a flying fuck weather you win or lose, they are a business.  They obtain enough capital on marketing alone, the whole conspiracy theory about covers needs to stop, it's getting ridiculous.

heard Evans is not playing tonight. Might hit Was 1H, was looking at previous games and here are the results for 1H. Also seeing how SAC hasnt been playing many away games can be a huge factor in this game. 8 of the last 10 games for SAC has been home. Lost both 6 by Toronto and 18 by Denver.

Washington last 5 at home:
Wash(+19) vs Nets
Wash (+5) vs Hornets
Wash (EV) vs Indiana
Wash (+4) vs Bulls
Wash (+5) vs Charlotte

Sacrament last 5 at away:
Sac (-7) vs Toronto
Sac (-12) vs Den
Sac (-7) vs OKC
Sac (+16) vs NOH
Sac (-10) vs Houston

Would like to see your opinion on this mak

I hate to ask your your thoughts on a game you already said is tough to read. However, with thoughts of players not showing up to concentrate on a win, do you think Denver might show up and just run and gun...Phoenix doesn't exactly lock the door at night let alone lock down on D, and Denver at home I'm sure will atleast revert to running and trying to outscore Phoenix....kind of fall into the game that Phoenix wants to play..any thoughts...the # is falling

I think the Knicks will be just as shocked and will be doubting their abilities a little bit after getting spanked by the Lakers, the Blazers will be hungry at home and excited to end their woes against a good team in the Knicks.  I think if the Blazers were playing a bad team they would have a let down tonight...just my 2 cents MrBator hope it helps

without galo they are 2-1 beating the shit out of the spurs & suns and they dropped a dud in LA... i agree that they miss him out of the rotation, he was an intrical part of their team, but if you say that they miss him more then you expected, what are you to base that on based off the 3 games???   They came out flat against LA and for some reason he didn't play Turiaf which worked so well vs Spurs moving Amarie to the 4 where he is more comfortable.  It was obvious too that size bothered Knicks against LA but they smashed the suns & spurs w/o galo so how have they missed him more then you expected they would?  with galo they win all 3??
fresh4lyph says:

also a revenge factor game, the blazers handed Knicks their home opener loss, a close game in which the knicks had a chance.  since then the knicks have found their identity and will look to avenge this.  (im playing devils advocate)  rudy fernandez is a bum.  Also: any thoughts on what they have been doing with mills & miller?  what's going on their?  McMillian lost that game for the blazers by sitting miller most of the 4th qt then bringing him in for the game winning shot?? wtf?? just some thoughts

put down to -3 something  it already went -4 or -4.5
it take more than 5 cents , NORMALLY
but ,mak has contact to do that.
good for him

i just wanted to understand, now i do
sorry!
i am a longtime sports bettor, i know my game but seeing you posting different lines was frustrating.
you make money, i do also
with the numbers, the price, i am almost too concerned, i never never lay on a bad price, i shop, but i dont contact like middle tier , sportingbet.com or so, i only bet like the normal way, my limit is slashed in lot of places, i do also some sports arbitage.
my main site is pinnacle, they have the best lines, we just play with the lines , i dont have any special cashbacks or whatever.
now i understand, sorry
here i think you got all the respect of people, i do respect you
you are a good capper, but some people has tendency to give me a feeling of sucking  the school teacher to have the better grades.
i know this comment wont be appreciated
in other topics, everybody put a NO NO, they all say what they are thinking, but in your thread  evrybody is so polite and lovely.
its exaclty the feeling of ----- a teacher.
anyway, i will never put negative post on your thread again.

kevinkim says:
01/11/11 06:36PM
last thing i have to say
i think everybody anyway play with actual vegas line
so why to put at what line you played?
we all know you play with the best line
-3 portland at -115 is UNBELIEVABLE line, where we are talking
this line was -3.5 last night, the moment we are speaking its -4.5
anyway, putting your line just means, you want to tell people you won but we lost.

kevinkim says:

kevinkim says:
01/11/11 09:01PM
what are you talking about???
i dont care he is getting the better line
just why to post the line which nobdy else really get it
i dont know when he makes his plays, anyway the portland wasnt made when the line was at -3 for us, i htink he posted his analysis this morning, reading his posts, it looks he made his plays later , i dont know when, portland was already-4 or -4.5  FOR US.
i checked the line moves, it was at -3 yesterday afternoon only for 1 or 2 hours, anyway i dont care anymore since i know where he gets his lines.
if his pick wins for his followers , is good, but honestly we dont care
at which line he plays.
kevinkim says:

It might be that he posts his wagers and that was the line he got...
Those time I post, mostly in the soccer forum (soccer picks) it's often that I've made my research and locked in most of my picks the day before and then get better lines than later on, often a 20-30 cent difference...
That he doesn't post the day before doesn't mean that he couldn't have placed the wager that day -- he might want to do something else than write write-ups on covers at this time of the day, like watching bball so he continues beeing a guy who realy know what he talks about...

Not trying to bash you or anything, it's just that complaining on him getting a better line than you is pathetic...
Lucky7th says:
01/11/11 08:28PM

Blazers actualy opened on -3 with -111 and it stayed at that for the first 1 1/2 hour or so and most books has it at 4 atm, then it's up to you if you will play it at that or not...

Mak,

there is a lot of garbage in this forum right now. And You are like a shining stone here. I appreciate Your write-ups very much and I wish You LUCK whatever You decide to play.

I wanted to share with You my opinion on players totals bets. I´m doing very well with picks on players totals lately. You can find MANY local books offering these bets and I can tell You, they are doind soooo much mistakes. They base their lines purely on statistics and do not look at particular match-ups at all.

Before I red Your posts (and they are superb ) I already placed bets on Aldrige scoring over 22 points and Amare scoring under 28 points.

There are many offers like this uppon local books and I´m very glad to punish them. I find it actually better than betting ATS games.

I wish You lucky 2011 season.
