Mak's MLK Birthday Special

Good afternoon fellas.  What more could Mak ask for on his birthday?  An entire matinee slate of NBA basketball.  I love MLK day.  For those of you interested, I turn 26 years young today.  To many that may come as a surprise, but I really despise those who account ability and knowledge with age.  Age is but a number.  Others may call Mak a liar since I have stated on numerous occasions that I have been obsessed with this game for almost a quarter of a century.  But I speak the truth my friends.  I came out of my mother’s womb with a Spalding basketball in my hand...I was spinning that shit on my baby finger.

I share this birthday with the G.O.A.T Muhammad Ali, one of my heroes along with Rev. Martin Luther King.  Many of you probably automatically think I am African-American since I love basketball, love hip-hop and was born in Africa...but that just makes you a bunch of stereotypical bastards :)  I am not African-American but I hold guys like MLK and Malcolm X in extremely high regard.  They were leaders who changed the course of history.  The thing I like about covers is no one gives a shit what color the guy behind the keyboard is, as long as they provide insight and assist in making money, that is all that matters.  And that is how it should be.

Some people may ask what the significance of MLK day is to players in the National Basketball Association.  First off, give a lot of credit to the NBA who recognized Martin Luther King Day as a holiday about 5 years before it was made official.  This day does impact specific games.  Some NBA players who tend to take a game off or limit their effort on specific days will not today.  Expect maximum effort from teams today.  Really tempted to make this a large card, but that is where profits get minimized.  Had to remove a lot of leans and cut down the card.  I still may add plays on 2 other games but they are contingent upon injuries and I shall wait for the updates.  I have some plans later today but I will try and get back to post the added plays.  As always guys, I wish you nothing but the best of luck.  Peace out - - - MAK

DALLAS MAVERICKS – 4.0 (-115) - - - The Texas Zone gets back on track today.  Dirk plainly stated that this team has hit rock bottom.  Losing 5 in a row does not sit well with this professional team.  The loss of Caron was mentally excruciating, combined with Dirk’s injury just made it even more difficult to overcome Caron’s loss.  Butler the only guy on this team that could take guys off the dribble.  They desperately need Beaubois to get healthy but he is quite some time away.  Dallas just matches up to perfection with the Pistons. Kidd has been dismal as of late, but he is a consummate vet, best eyes in the business.  He has excelled in must-win road situations and I think he outplays Stuck today.  Stevenson went 0-5 last game, he is usually automatic for at least 2 three point shots a game.  T Mac is a loose perimeter defender and Stevenson will get some points from the land beyond today.  Marion and Prince are a key matchup, look for Shawn to break off misses and turnovers.  Prince is fast but Marion is faster, if Shawn can put up some offensive numbers today, it will really help the cause.  Dirk only played 15 minutes last game and looked very rusty, a few more practices under his belt and his shot should look better today.  Wilcox is not tall enough to guard Dirk and he should be able to shoot right over him.  Tyson will be back to man the middle and that is key, he is the leader of their half-court zone defense and clogs the paint much better than Haywood.  My key to this game is the 3 man rotation of each bench.  Charlie, Ben and Will Bynum did an excellent job last game.  Tonight Will the thrill may not get any time due to the return of T Mac.  Ben and Charlie both had excellent games but that is a rarity, usually one or none of them show up consistently.  Today I see Jason Terry exploding.  He has been atrocious for Dallas since Caron went down, they have looked to him for offense and he has not come through at all.  Terry is a confident man, strong will and this game screams opportunity for the Jet off the bench.  J.J Barea and Haywood will also provide production.  Here’s hoping Ian Mahinmi actually sees time again.  He is a waste sitting on that bench, such size, such raw power, he deserves to be in the rotation and could cause Monroe and other Detroit bigs fits in the paint.  All-in-all this has no situational value whatsoever, nevertheless the matchups are on the side of Dallas.  The Mavs have been road warriors for the past 2 seasons, they find another level in their game on the road, this games just seems like one where Dallas finds themselves, I think they come out focused and poised for victory.  Mavs cover and returns to winning ways.

2 TM ML PARLAY KNICKS & WARRIORS (-103) - - - The New

York Knicks were embarrassed against the Queens.  They shot a ridiculously low percentage from

the field.  Felton was awful going 2-14

and Amar’e didn’t fare much better.  The

Knicks showed a major weakness against the Kings, once they started off cold,

they never seemed to gain the confidence and heat up again.  Tonight, I suspect the atmosphere and

situation to have them fired up from the get go.  With the return of Galo, the Knicks have

their main guns in the starting 5.

Gortat and Frye are not good perimeter defenders.  Today, they will be planted outside the post

trying to guard three quick 4 men that Dantoni puts out there.  Williams, Wilson and Galo.  The bigs on Phoenix just will not be able to

guard to mobile front-court of New York.

They dismantled the Suns in Phoenix and I suspect a similar outcome

tonight.  Pride may come into play here,

Suns suffered that loss in ridiculous fashion and may really fight hard to stay

in this one.  The Golden State Warriors

are the real deal.  They have the ability

to blow teams out easily, this spread is a few points too high however GS could

easily walk away with a double digit win.

Jersey has been playing well the past two games thanks to back to back

30 point performances by Brook Lopez...thing is, for a 7 foot monster....Brook

is the worst rebounder I have ever seen.

He has no lateral quicks, no timing and just does not get on the glass

at all.  Andris will see to that

tonight.  Lee and Wright should provide

some proper offense from the forward positions and Curry and Ellis should

combine for 50 tonight.  Off the bench

Williams & Radmanovic are doing well but look for NJ’s bench of Sasha, Hump

and Farmer to actually out-play the Warrior bench rotation unless Amundson and Udoh get major minutes.  I love

the way GS plays, their potent offense should be enough to take care of the

Nets in front of a sold out Oracle Arena.

TORONTO RAPTORS + 9.0 (-110) - - - Sigh...can’t believe I am

backing my Raps. Promised I would not until the return of Reggie Evans...now

with the Brazilian Blur out it is highly unlikely the Raps can keep up score

with any team...however, the Hornets maybe one team that Raps have a chance to

contend with using the current roster they have.  If the Raps can keep this game below 190

points they have a chance to cover this spread.

Jose has been playing magnificently, DeRozan coming off a rare bad game

this month, should take it to the hole with vigor against Green or Marco.  Ariza is just a horrible shooter and massively overrated offensive threat and I hope

he continues his dismal shooting this afternoon.  West and Okafor will be major problems for

the Raps.  Amir may get into early foul

trouble which will cause rookie Ed Davis to man up with David.  Both Amir and Ed are long and athletic and if

they put their minds to it can cause West some problems today.  The only way to offset Okafor’s dominance as

of late is to get him away from the paint on defense and that is exactly what

Andrea can do.  He will spread the floor

and cause Okafor to guard him at the 3 point line.  X factor today is Julian Wright.  He will return to New Orleans and get some

time.  Julian is the best

defender the Raps have apart from Reggie.  Wright does a lot of good things on the floor and if motivated could be

an vital part to the Raps cover today.

A very very dangerous bet, Raps could easily loose by 15+ but I

will

take my boys on a gut feeling here, I also do not think the public

realizes what type of impact a no name player like Wright could have on a

game like this.  Go

Raps Go.

2 UNITS REGGIE “PLEASE COME BACK” EVANS - - -

HOUSTON ROCKETS – 4.0 (-115) - - - When these two teams

first met, I believe I was on the Rockets.

They ended up losing that game but everything that could have gone

wrong...did go wrong.  Bogut annihilated

the Rockets, Martin & Lowry were awful from the field, Scola struggled and

the Houston bench was non-existent.

Tonight a few things will change.

The longer Jordan Hill coming off a monster game vs Al Horford and Josh Smith will get some time on

Bogut.  Kevin Martin, Lowry and Scola

will NOT combine for a 14-41 shooting performance and with Aaron Brooks back

who can come off the bench and pour in 20 or more, this will be a very different

game.  I have really loved the way

Milwaukee has played recently.  Very gritty

defensive efforts in their last few games, nonetheless, the home team has the

advantage here in many ways.  Revenge

factor, matchup compatibility and a confidence in their game.  Houston is one of the more analytical teams

in the NBA, they use a lot of mathematics to project what the best game plan

will be for each game, coach Adelman is one of the best in the NBA at what he

does and he will continue to strive to get this team into the playoffs.  The deer are not feared in Texas.

There are a few other games I like including a 1pm tip.  May decide to add some action in one of the 8pm

games as well.  Will try and come by and

post the added plays but it is going to be a busy day so I may not have

time.  Will really enjoy today’s action,

hope you guys do too.  Best of luck

fellas.  Peace out - - - MAK

Thanks so much for all those birthday wishes.  Really appreciate it guys!!

Those god damn Knicks did it to me again !!!

Increasing my Dallas bet to 6 Units from the original 4.  I may have a wager on the Orlando@Bosto game and the Minnesota@Portland game.  Having a nice birthday thus far with some friends and family watching some NBA hoops.  I hope you are all having a good day.  Thanks again for all the well wishes.

I expect you'll be calling on your "Tims" to deliver the goods.  At least that's what I hoping for.  I'm already on them at +8.5 -105 and ML +355, courtesy of BetCatalina and Bookmaker, respectively.

I expected you to say you were 66 not 26 due to your knowledge but you do have 25+ years under your belt or waist-dropping baggy pants. Congrats!

Glad MLK day is important and acknowledged by the NBA but let's not forget basketball's original gangster father and creator....white James Naismith.
