Carlos Barega a native Puertorican's first game in Cleveland ....it started snowing in the third inning! Within a half an inning the field was covered in the white stuff. Barega notched his first MLB hit in that game!
Great Season that year! When Hargrove was made manager Carlos really blossomed at 2nd base everyday. Then a Speedy Kenny Loften was added at the leadoff spot! Loften was a top stealer of bases and could strech a single into a double or double into a triple at any time....say what ya want but we should've had maybe three world championships in the 90's. Mesa couldn't get strike three in one series......and we lost in the bottom of the ninth . This has happened twice to us in game sevens of the world series. I became a fan in 1970 and went to tons of games in Municipal Stadium .....er the mistike on the lake. It was a cold horeshoe style stadium with an open end facing Lake Erie! it would be cold many days in April and May. In 1977 I think it was Cory Snyder who hits a home run in the opener to give the tribe a 5-0 lead I think it was and by the 4th inning we had three inches of snow fall and the game was called due to a snowstorm. Andre Thorton was always a favorite of mine. He was a humble man and God fearing! Big Thunder we called him.
