I have been studying rap music since a few months ago, lyrically is B.I.G in my opinion but TUPAC gives power to his songs, so is very dificult to tell, i like 50 cent and the best now a days lil' wayne but i can't understand why is jay-z famous, how could he make millions of dollars of music, matter fact i just could say that I enjoyed 2 or 3 songs he made on his career, no attemp to hurt any feelings or disrespect anybody but in my opinion jay-z suck! AND I REALLY MEAN HE SUCKS

Jay-Z sucks, look back at when him and NAS were going at each other. You cant say he didnt go after anyone. Jay-Z would step up with anyone that says something about him over a track.

2PAC greatest of all time.

As of now I dont know if anyone out now should be in the greatest of all time speak. Eminem back in the day was fire and would go after anyone.

Dude ive played guitar, bass, drums and piano since i was 8. Been the front man in several bands. Give me a break, rap is trash. Are some "rappers" better than others? yes. But as a whole it is not a special talent or skill.

The point is........... rap is not music...........how many great guitarists or keyboardists come to mind when you mention any rap group? Or vocalists for that matter?

You are right it does not make them musicians it makes them artists. Most good rap artists are more than rhyming words. They have concepts, story lines, double entendres, and some are like poetry.

I've never seen Mick Jagger play guitar, piano, drums and sing at the same time. He is strictly a singer/vocalist. That does not discredit his music or make him not considered an artist because he didn't play all the instruments.

A lot of rap artists get started in gospel singing. They are musicians whether you want to believe it or not.

into good hip hop..whether that be underground or mainstream w.e. a good song is a good song

even though i might not be able to enjoy all types of music, i wont knock any. if you like it , you like it. There are lots of songs that I wouldnt listen to on my own time but i recognize as good songs.

I love this list. You got to add Pac though so I would rearrange like this:

(1) TuPac
(2) Ice Cube
(3) Biggy
(4) Emm
(5) Nas

I literally wore out three Ice Cube's Predator CDs. One of the best albums ever!!! I really miss Pac and Biggy. I hate to say it but they were at their best when they were feuding (i.e. Now I am Gonna Wetta), however, if that is what ended in their deaths it was not worth it.

As for the person who said picking the best rapper is like picking the tallest midgit... seriously get a life. I always felt that this is the most skilled form of musical expression and also the one that gets the worst rep. Most of these guys put their souls into this music and to make it in this business is damn near impossible. Further, to be able to sling these rhymes (often freestyle) that makes sense, is entertaining and articulate is amazing to me. Before any haters start hating, yes rap music is articulate if you know what you are listening too.

Great topic. I look forward to further discussion.

Saw both over the last year, great shows. I dunno if you'd call Tip a great lyricist, though. It's more his style and voice that catches people.
