I have been studying rap music since a few months ago, lyrically is B.I.G in my opinion but TUPAC gives power to his songs, so is very dificult to tell, i like 50 cent and the best now a days lil' wayne but i can't understand why is jay-z famous, how could he make millions of dollars of music, matter fact i just could say that I enjoyed 2 or 3 songs he made on his career, no attemp to hurt any feelings or disrespect anybody but in my opinion jay-z suck! AND I REALLY MEAN HE SUCKS

Biggie absolutely crushes 99% of the rappers lyrically, his flow is so smooth it is unbelievable, hes got punchlines out the ass and goes so hard. Raps what he lived too which is so underrated. Glad to see this isnt a thread ripping on rap.

I agree i think jay-z sucks, bad. There is some rap that everyone sleeps on rap. If you appreciate rap then listen to a dude named Z-ro (songs to look up: soldier, goin down in the south, one deep, hard times, mind on paper, hes one of those rappers that has a cd you can listen through without skipping any songs), my personal favorite rapper, you wont believe this guy is so unknown nationally. Houston puts out the best rap hands down, thats stricly what i listen to if its not the old classics.

I dont think that lil wayne is currently the best rapper, he is the most popular but if you are listening to his recent stuff as compared to what he was putting out about a year or 2 ago or compared to the carter 2/carter, no comparison.

Yeah Jay-Z totally sucks and never did anything the last 13 years.

pound for pound hes the most verse rapper ever.  you're talking about a guy who opened up his albums with Carlito's Way, and scenes from Casino..Gladiator.  Jay-z has some how some way captured the era and but it to a beat better than anybody has ever done in hiphop.  He brought the suburbs to the hood. The first guy i ever here talk about a Lexus when most black people where Im from (the hood) drive a buick or a damn Camary, Ford Escort, Honda, maybe a CAddilac ect was considered as luxry as its going to get.  Very detailed in his description of things.

Motherfuckers -

say that I'm foolish I only talk about jewels (bling bling)

Do you fools listen to music or do you just skim through it?

See I'm influenced by the ghetto you ruined

That same dude you gave nothin, I made somethin doin

what I do through and through and

I give you the news - with a twist it's just his ghetto point-of-view

The renegade; you been afraid

I penetrate pop culture, bring 'em a lot closer to the block where they

pop toasters, and they live with they moms

Got dropped roasters, from botched robberies niggaz crotched over

Mommy's knocked up cause she wasn't watched over

Knocked down by some clown when child support knocked

No he's not around - now how that sound to ya, jot it down

I bring it through the ghetto without ridin 'round

hidin down duckin strays from frustrated youths stuck in they ways

Just read a magazine that fucked up my day

How you rate music that thugs with nothin relate to it?

I help them see they way through it - not you

Can't step in my pants, can't walk in my shoes

Bet everything you worth; you lose your tie and your shirt

Grown man I put hands on you

I dig a hole in the desert, they build The Sands on you

Lay out blueprint plans on you

We Rat Pack niggaz, let Sam tap dance on you

Then, I Sinatra shot ya God damn you

... I put the boy in the box like David Blaine

Let the audience watch, it ain't a thang

Y'all wish I was frontin, I George Bush the button

Front of all you in your car lift up your hood nigga run it

Then lift up your whole hood like you got oil under it

Your boy got the goods y'all don't want nuttin of it

Like, castor oil, I Castor Troy you

Change your face or the bullets change all that for you

... y'all niggaz is targets

Y'all garages for bullets, please don't make me park it

in your upper level, valet a couple strays

People was poor before the hurricane came

But the down pour poured is like when Mary J. sang

Every day it rains, so every day the pain

But ignored them, and showed em the risk was to blame

For life is a chain, cause and effected

Niggas off the chain because they affected

It's a dirty game so whatever is effective

From weed to selling kane, gotta put that in effect

Wouldn't you loot, if you didn't have the loot?

Baby needed food and you stuck on the roof

Helicopter swooped down just to get a scoop

Through his telescopic lens but he didn't scoop you

The next five days, no help ensued

They called you a refugee because you seek refuge

The commander-in-chief just flew by

Did he stop? No, he had a couple seats

Just proved jet blue he's not

Jet flew by the spot

What if he ran out of jet fuel and just dropped

hu,That woulda been something to watch

Helicopters doing fly-bys to take a couple of shots

Couple of portraits then ignored 'em

He'd be just another bush surrounded by a couple orchids

Poor kids just 'cause they were poor kids

Left 'em on they porches same old story in New Orleans

Silly rappers, because we got a couple Porches

MTV stopped by to film our fortresses

We forget the unfortunate

Sure I ponied up a mill, but I didn't give my time

So in reality I didn't give a dime, or a damn

I just put my monies in the hands of the same people that left my people stranded

Nothin' but a bandit

Left them folks abandoned

Damn, that money that we gave was just a band-aid

Can't say we better off than we was before

In synopsis this is my minority report

Can't say we better off than we was before

In synopsis this is my minority report

You can be as avid a jay-z fan as you want but there is no convincing me, i dont like his music, it doesnt impress me. How are you gonna try to tell me that my opinion is wrong. Do you wanna just measure music by volume? I guess Biggie isnt very good cuz he was only able to put out 3 cds (if you wanna count the biggie duets). Z-ro has been making cds since around 96 too and he doesnt get any love, just cuz he doesnt sell out and continues to make music about what he lives everyday.

I'm 21, and think I finally got a grip on life
And all bills paid apartment, a step-son and a step-wife
But without a vehicle, it's kinda hard to get around
If I got weed I ride for free, if not my partners let me down
So now I'm loving to be one deep so much, I'm hating people
Lookin at everybody, even babies like they Satan people
Nobody understand me, everybody's tripping with me
Wonder why when I gotta ride, were none of my people flipping with me
Too many haters, trying to take a player off his game
Not trying to be ballerific, I'm just trying to have some thangs
They're just like crabs in a bucket, these people pull me down
If I didn't have so many obstacles, think where I could be now
On MTV or BET, or in some magazine
Instead I'm stressing, hooked on codeine headed to tragedy
Sometimes I think, it's better just to die
Because I never seen a man cry, till it was my own eye

No more pain, I'm bout to overdose on it
I ain't never had no good times, I put my dogs and my locs on it
Chain smoking, cigarettes back to back
Unless I was pillow fighting with the kids, I miss that
But it's a different day and time, and I'm all alone
With nobody to call my own, different area codes popping up in my phone
Prolly just another hoochie, searching for some sex
It ain't got nothing to do with me, it's all about my checks
If it wasn't for the music, you niggaz wouldn't give me dap
Wouldn't give a fuck about how I'm doing, it's all about a rap
Realizing I ain't nothing, without paper and pen
So Lord forbid I get interect, like the deal she was in
Let me make my mama proud, and she could see me
Cause heaven ain't too far away from the ghetto, but touching it ain't easy
God, give me the victory and bring me out the rain
Give me something, to smile about and

[Hook:]
(no more pain), somebody tell me what happiness is
Cause I'm sick, of living so low
(in my life), too many problems bottled up inside
I promise, I can't take it no more
(no more pain), if there's a brighter day let it come my way
Let me see, the sun shine
(in my life), cause I can't tell if I'm coming or going out
Just wanna die sometime

and plus nas completely destroys jay-z in ether anyway:

I've been fucked over, left for dead, dissed and fogotten

Luck ran out, they hoped that I'd be gone, stiff and rotten

Y'all just piss on me, shit on me, spit on my grave (uh)

Talk about me, laugh behind my back but in my face

Y'all some "well wishers," friendly actin, envy hidin snakes

With your hands out for my money, man, how much can I take?

When these streets keep callin, heard it when I was sleep

That this Gay-Z and Cockafella Records wanted beef

Started cockin up my weapon, slowly loadin up this ammo

To explode it on a camel, and his soldiers, I can handle

This for dolo and it's manuscript, just sound stupid

When KRS already made an album called Blueprint

First, Biggie's ya man, then you got the nerve to say that you better than Big

Dick suckin lips, whyn't you let the late, great veteran live

[talking]

(I...will...not...lose)

"God's son" across the belly, I prove you lost already

The king is back, where my crown at?

(Ill...will) Ill Will rest in peace, let's do it niggas

[Chorus]

spoondiggidy9 says:

Y'all niggas deal with emotions like bitches

What's sad is I love you 'cause you're my brother

You traded your soul for riches

My child, I've watched you grow up to be famous

And now I smile like a proud dad, watchin his only son that made it

You seem to be only concerned with dissin women

Were you abused as a child, scared to smile, they called you ugly?

Well life is hard, hug me, don't reject me

Or make records to disrespect me, blatent or indirectly

In '88 you was gettin chased through your buildin

Callin my crib and I ain't even give you my numbers

All I did was gave you a style for you to run with

Smilin in my face, glad to break bread with the god

Wearin Jaz chains, no tecs, no cash, no cars

No jail bars Jigga, no pies, no case

Just Hawaiian shirts, hangin with little Chase

You a fan, a phony, a fake, a pussy, a Stan

I still whip your ass, you thirty-six in a karate class

You Tae-bo hoe, tryna' work it out, you tryna' get brolic?

Ask me if I'm tryna' kick knowledge

Nah, I'm tryna' kick the shit you need to learn though

That ether, that shit that make your soul burn slow

Is he Dame Diddy, Dame Daddy or Dame Dummy?

Oh, I get it, you Biggie and he's Puffy

Rockafeller died of AIDS, that was the end of his chapter

And that's the guy y'all chose to name your company after?

Put it together, I rock hoes, y'all rock fellas

And now y'all try to take my spot, fellas?

Philly's hot rock fellas, put you in a dry spot, fellas

In a pine box with nine shots from my glock, fellas

Foxy got you hot 'cause you kept your face in her puss

What you think, you gettin girls now 'cause of your looks?

Ne-gro please

You no mustache havin, with whiskers like a rat

Compared to Beans you wack

And your man stabbed Un and made you take the blame

You ass, went from Jaz to hangin with Caine, to Herb, to Big

And, Eminem murdered you on your own shit

You a dick-ridin faggot, you love the attention

Suicide, it's a suicide

If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Every step you take, they remind you you're ghetto

Don't know how you say continues to be sick. He is a great artists and one of the best lyricists when he is taking rapping SERIOUSLY.

More than half his stuff nowadays is some bullshit. When he decides to spit seriously, which is less than 50% of the time, he is one of the top 3 alive no debating. When he is spitting crazy, non serious shit he is no better than Akon.

Best artist out is Joe Budden. He can go line for line with anyone and spits deep shit. He has punchlines for days, metaphors that a majority have trouble deciphering and you can feel the passion in his voice that just allows the listener to connect like Pac was able to do.

Hov is the reason Budden's career was squashed. Hov was scared to let the kid shine on his own label and didn't care for Joe so there was no way he was gonna let him become the next big artist. Since then his career has gone nowhere except for his cult, underground followers.

If you are looking for straight lyricism: Crooked, Rass Kass, Canibus, Pharoahe Monche, Kurupt (old days), Mos, Rakim, Dre (outkast)

Overall artists: Nas, Jay (both are past their prime now), Jada, Budden, Dr. Dre (can't argue with both his albums being 2 of the greatest albums to be released), Scarface, Little Brother, Royce 5'9, Joell and Saigon (up and comers), Raekwon (only built for Cuban links might be the best album ever), Jay Electronica, Talib and Mos.... I am sure I have left people out

RIP: Big L, Biggie, Pac, Big Pun

AZ ...a Nas protege is a lot less mainstream but is a hidden gem in the rap world.

Saying that Jay-Z sucks tells me you obviously don't know shit about good rap.  Another comment that completely discounts any real knowledge of rap is saying that 50 cent is good.  On "Get Rich or Die Tryin"  he showed some ability to actually flow and rap logically.  Since then he has tried to make catchy shit that absolutely blows and makes no logical sense or has any kind of flow whatsoever.

EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU THINK IS GOOD MUSIC. IN MY OPINION, JAY-Z IS THE BEST OVERALL RAPPER. IF YOU LISTEN TO REASONABLE DOUBT AND AMERICAN GANGSTER. boys boys.. eminem was very good in 1999 but then he stopped abusing hard drugs are semi-cleaned his life up and his music has suffered from it i believe. there is no possible way that eminem's name should be even considered "the best rapper". sure, he goes hard with the mic and could probably rip me a new one, but for sure not even close to the best rapper, not even in his time.

There is def more argument behind people like Biggie and Pac. They changed the game as everyone knows it. These two could be considered TOP 5 easily of all time. Think about this though.. if either BIGGIE or PAC werent "killed", would either of them be as big as they are today?? I think there music becomes more valuable after there lives have been taken simply because we can never get more.

Jay-Z has for sure established himself in a class of his own and has provided the world with some of the best music and lyrics this side of the atlantic ocean. If you ask anyone between the ages of 16 and 30, your most popular answer might be JAY-Z, and for good reason. in my opinion though Jay is in the middle of being passed by the one and only...

WEEZY F. BABY.

Little Wayne is far and beyond on his way to surpassing almost every rapper that will ever exist. this man puts out more music in one year than most could put put in 7 years. If you have never listened to him you should give it a try. He almost doesnt seem like a human being at some points, like he was created, not born.

"he's rare like mr. clean with hair"
