Rematch of last season. Both teams are on fire and playing best hockey of season. Thjis yr hossa is  a wing and not a pen. No malone. Malin and sid the kid seem be playing much betetr thios post season then last yr. BUt the resurgance of youngsters like leno, ericskon and helpo did not play last post season and are all doing well so far.  be a greta series. I sitll think wings repeat and beta them again in possibly 6. i hope 5 or 7 so can win it on home ice. Just waititng for official prediction form REDWINGSSUCK avs fan so i can pound opposite of his prediciton.

WINGS ATHLETICISM, DEPTH, CUOP WINNIGN EXPERIENCE, AND 4 LINES AND HOME CIE should be too much for pens to handle.

Plus wings played betetr opponents in jackets, ducks and hawks then pens did in weak ass flyuers, caps and rookie goalie and  exhausted and and tired canes tema who went 2 7 agem series without home ice.

go wings

what are your thoughts and predicitons and hate replies or agreements??

yes hawks and canes are done.  If u think otehrwise lay off the crack/cocke or drug of ur choice

ciao and gl

Rink Rat-

I understand your points about the conflict, but not putting up sports to go against the NCAA Final 4 and NC game, is just smart business. Even the NBA does not play on Championship monday. Now, they say that is so players can go watch their school win it some, but also know that basketball fans do not care about game 70 in the season compared to the the finals of the greatest post season tourney IMO.

i really think Versus should try to get the rights to even more hockey. The could really become like the hockey network

Not sure which is more painful to read?

The typo every other word or the nonsensicle comments about a team you know nothing about.

At least with the Wings you know a few of their names.

Almost forgot    This makes me funny.

Pens are going to win the cup...the big loser will be Hossa who jumped ship and he will get what he deserves...nothing...Osgood may be a little banged up and has not faced off against a team with the fire power of the Penguins...

There was definitely some scarcasm.  You will not hear me say that the Pens are a better team than the Wings, but certainly do not be fooled to think that they have little to no chance.  There is a huge difference.

While I respect Rink's comments, I do not always agree with some things regarding the Pens.  Makes neither of us right.  I am certainly wrong at times.  If I recall correctly he was not in favor of Therien being fired, nor Sykora being benched.  Two points I was dead set on.  Both can still be argued, but IMO the Pens are not still alive if Therien were still coaching, and may have lost to the Caps if Sykora kept sucking up minutes in these playoffs.

The popular analysis for this series will be the Wings are the defending champions who beat the Pens in six games last season.  The Pens two best wingers are gone and their best now plays for the Wings.  Last year Fleury helped keep them in the series and he is giving up more than half a goal more now.  The Wings had the best record in hockey and have home ice.  How can the poor Pens ever compete?

The Pittsburgh Penguins will win it in 6 games and they'll be raising the Cup on the home ice in the last year at The Igloo.

malkin and crosby were able to defeat washington and carolina by themselves..washington is basically a 1 man team..and carolina is basically eric staal/cam ward...the red wings have 4 strong lines and are way too much for malkin n crosby to cut down and beat.

wings will win it again. and hossa made the good choice!

Wings fan here...  No way I'm confident picking Wings w/o knowing health of Lids/Dats/Ericksson and extent of their PT in Finals.  I understand Wings are deep but u don't lose the best D-man the last 10+ yrs and one of best ever and not have a drop-off.  Can any Wings fan really trust Chelios/Meech as their 3rd-D line when they're going to play 3 games in 4 nites???  They need Lids out there against Sid!!!  They have won last 2 games w/o Lids but Chi is not as good as Pitts and Huet had deer-in-light look for G4.
The Wings puck movement was very choppy yesterday (esp for PP) and IMO, that's from missing Lids at pt on PP and Dats.

The short lay-off, 3 games in 4 nites and uncertain health of Wings are huge adv for Pitts going into Finals.

Leek has a crystal ball because he is bang on..GO PENS!

I think the difference in the series will be the Pens weak dee! They have Gill, Scuderi, Eaton, Boucher to name a few. The only good defenseman the Pens have are Letang and Gonchar and last time i checked they couldn't play 60 minutes of hockey.

Like what you said, and better defensive team should take best of seven. Good luck!

thornton6 says:

This might back up what i am saying about the Pens bad dee! In the 3rd period during the playoffs the Pens have given up 19 goals that's alot. The Wings have only given up 3 goals in the 3rd period. This is why i think the Pens dee will be the difference in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Wings can take advantage of the weak Pens dee. They always come at teams they don't sit back and the Pens will have lots of turnovers and lead to Wing goals.

wings certainly have the edge.. but i wouldnt hand them a distinct advantage in special teams .. pens pp 19.3 %, pk 83.6... wings pp 25. 7 %, pk 73.7 %..  looks like its strength vs strength with edge to pens..
thornton6 says:

The problem is the Wings don't take stupid penalties so the pens won't get a tonne of PP time. This goes in favour of the Wings because believe it or not the Wings have been the better team 5 on 5. The Pens have given up 34 goals against 5 on 5. The Wings have only given up 19 goals goals against 5 on 5 thats a 15 goal difference. The Pens have played one more game mind you. To me the difference will be 5 on 5 play who ever plays the best 5 on 5 wins the series, because i don't see alot of penalties being called. The series will be 6-7 games who ever wins i like the Wings to win, but it wouldn't surprise me to see the Pens beat the Wings because they can't contain Crosby and Malkin. Its going to be a great series i see no sweep buy any team both teams are playing well.

Nobody talks about Draper's injury this guy will be very important in this series if he can go.
JTFinn says:

This will likely be the biggest ? of the series.  I will be curious as to how Bylsma may adjust if they do not generate enough chances and cannot pressure the Wings D.  They rely on the best defense is "puck possession in the offensive zone" and the Wings will be the best they have faced without a doubt.  I am not as concerned with the GA from the standpoint that if they had no success with puck pressure and scoring I think they can adjust and those numbers would not be as skewed.  While some say the Canes were tired or did not play well, I think the Pens neutralized their forecheck a little with their own relentless forecheck and counter attack.

thornton6 says:

JTFinn i agree with what you said the Pens did a great job against the Canes. The pens can win the series it will be a great one! I think Crosby and Malkin can be the difference. I can't wait it is going to be a great cup.

IM FROM PITTSBURGH, not playing the city team, but the pens r a lot better a team this year.  dont get me wrong, detroit is just sick
i think pens take it in 6 or 7

Popular or not, I think the fact is that Detroit is just as good or not better than last year.  Overall, they are the better team, and even you think that to an extent because you state you won't say the Pens are a better team.  And I just don't think Pittsburgh overall is any better than last year.

While I can see Crosby and Malkin getting their goals and wreaking their usual havoc, I just can't see Pittsburgh's defense stopping Detroit enough to win 4 games.  Their defense has played well these playoffs, but can't see them slowing down Detroit's European style enough to beat them in a series.
