3 years at $27mil and he turns it down. What a joke, come on LO, stop being such a puss. Both agents for LO and Ariza are garbage.

His agent is making a bad move by not telling him to take this deal. They wanted a 5 year $50 mil deal!  Are you kidding me?  He's not worth that. He had two deals on the table: 4 years at $36 mil, or a 3 year $30 mil deal.

The Lakers did the right thing. I bet Odom ends up signing with the Lakers. According to the LA Times, team Odom tried to get Miami and Dallas involved, which pissed Jerry Buss off. Supposedly they will offer less if Odom comes back wanting to resign.

A 3 year $30 mil deal was very generous, especially when you consider the fact that they signed Artest for 3 years at $18 mil.

They offered him a 3 year $30 mil deal or 4 years $36 mil deal but pulled it off because Odom hasnt even responded. The offer was given a week ago.

What more do you expect from the Lakers organization?  They did the right thing. Screw Odom. Its a priviledge to play for an organization like the Lakers.

3 years or 4 years or 5 years?

9 million or 10 million?

To us it seems minor....but to a player coming to the end of his career what you do when you are 29, 30 or 31 will impact and determine what kind of pay check you receive when you are 33,34 or 35 and maybe even 36.

So while the fans [us] are impatient and say what is up with Odom?

Other NBA players and business people know that he is looking out for himself "further" down the road than LA or the FANS are concerned about.

I do not blame him one bit, and it shows that he is trying to do what is best for him and not what is best for the NBA [or in this case LA].

I know what you mean, but he's an idiot if he thinks he's worth 5 years $50 mil. No chance in hell is he worth that, not for what he brings to the table. He's much more useful on a good team vs. say a team like Minnesota. He cant carry a team. He'll always be second fiddle, maybe even third.

A 3 year $30 mil deal was a phenomenal one. If they dont get that back from the Lakers, the agent should be fired.

The 4 year deal was plenty ..

he'd be 34 then..

I like the 3 years myself. If he is as slow'd as he is often times today, just think about after next season, and then waiting again after the next season, and then finally after that season. He will be real slow'd and not worth more than 6 million to them like they are going to pay Artest who will get Odoms 4, 5 and 6 year contract money then, and Odom knows this and he is pissed! Besides LA wants PAU and BYNUM to play their worth. Odom is old pot, LA might have another superstar aside from KOBE in line in four years, so Y would they continue to give ODOM money after more than 3 NBA seasons for some old balls when they could cash in on newer ones.
Borat38 says:

Tell Kobe to take a 30% pay cut.  That'd free up about $7M for another All-Star caliber player, plus some spare change for Lamar "I Love Pot" Odom.
ct1016 says:

Agreed --- 3 year 30 million was his best offer from LA.   I am not sure what Portland will offer as soon as Utah gets their boy Millsap back from them;

Looks like Pat Riley is trying to get in the mix with these other General Managers that have been shaking up their teams roster to try to compete next year.

If Miami got both Boozer and Odom then to play with D Wade then that would put Miami defintely back in the playoffs and if their chemistry is right, then they could be in the mix to be an Eastern Conference contender.

vegasdennis says:

Heat are offering him 5 years 35 Million
thornton6 says:
07/17/09 05:52PM
If he wants to leave let him go this gives the Lakers money to go and trade for another player who wants 8-9 million to play in L.A. and have a chance to win every year! The Heat are not contenders in the East let alone the NBA. They have to beat the Cavs, Celts and Magic just to name a few teams in the East.
vegasdennis says:
07/17/09 06:06PM
guess it will depend if Heat also pull a trade to get Boozer
ct1016 says:
07/17/09 06:56PM

Dwayne Wade is a MVP caliber player that has already proven that he can carry a team to a title.

All he needs is the right role players around him.  So IMO I think when it is winning time, D Wade can be "clutch" and carry the heat as long as the other guys are doing their thing/role.

Are they the favorites?  No

But will those moves put them in the discussion?  Yes, because of D Wade [he will not disappear like Melo did for the Nuggets in the playoffs when the going got tough]

vegasdennis says:
07/17/09 07:00PM

wow CT we agree
westcoastTrojan says:
07/17/09 08:48PM
Miami picking up a guy like Odom doesnt really do much for them. Waste of money, IMO.  He makes more sense on a team like the Lakers, where a good game by him once every three games is all they need. Miami needs him every night. He cant give it.

LMAO if he takes a 5 year $35 mil deal while he had a 3 year $30 or 4 year $36 mil from the Lakers. He's basically playing one extra year for free, or playing 2 extra seasons for only $5 mil total. OOOPS!  That agent will get fired, plain and simple.

The Lakers and his agent dont like each other, and this started way before contract negotiations. You dont battle the Lakers franchise. Shaq told Jerry Buss to PAY HIM, and what happened? he traded his big ass. Odom is a pion. Have fun playing in the East and being a #4 seed. At least you have Miami Beach.

ct1016 says:
07/18/09 12:00AM
No guys...in Miami he will continue to be a role player.

D Wade is the primary option, period.

The regular season will reveal who the Heat's true #2 and #3 options are ....Beasley, Odum, if acquired, Boozer, if acquired, or Other.....???

If Miami makes the move or moves to acquire Boozer and/or Odum, I agree with you that those moves are not as "sexy" as the moves that the Cavs, Celtics, Lakers, Spurs and Magic made....but D Wade is a S.T.U.D. with a capital "S"....and I think he is capable of going mano "e" mano with any other 1st team all nba player(s) and lead the Heat to victory....didn't he already prove that to us one time already????

westcoastTrojan says:
07/18/09 12:40AM

its being reported here in LA that Odom is crawling back to Buss begging him to come back. I'll bet Buss caves in this time.

Odom knows he messed up. Nothing wrong with apologizing when you're wrong. He aint too proud to beg.

ct1016 says:
07/18/09 10:01AM
He may apologize and get that cheddar that LA was initially offerring, but IMO, he feels like a guy that is getting his retirement pay if he stays in LA.

If he had a change of scenery then maybe -- just naybe, he might be a little more motivated.

Why stay in LA....isn't his home in Miami?

3BallBomber says:

Word Up!!
3BallBomber says:
07/19/09 07:59AM
his a step up from what Miami already have, even more important his a player with a a lot of playoff experience under his belt. I'm not a big fan either but as a role player he may be useful for Miami.
KingQuais says:

3BallBomber says:

apparently he still has his home there.
ct1016 says:
07/19/09 09:23PM
IMO, yes it is important who your teammates are and can you contend for a title.....BUT what is more important, is what kind of check will I receive when I am 33, 34, 35, 36 years old.

Will I be year to year like an Allen Iverson or signing a contract for one or two years or will my contract take care of me up to my 36th birthday and pay me 7 to 9 million a year.

I thought that was what Odom was fighting for...and I would do the exact same thing.

ct1016 says:
07/26/09 09:00AM
Odom may be leaning Miami Heat...of course, he could still opt to stay in LA.

Latest article on Odom mentions that LA is offerring less money than the orginal offer -- what's up with that?

westcoastTrojan says:

Good for the Lakers. Screw Odom. This is the Lakers. Last time someone bitched about getting paid from the Lakers (Shaq) was shipped out of town the following season.

ct1016 says:
07/28/09 02:57PM

LOL

Now that was funny.

But in all seriousness, the reason why I keep bumping this thread and threads similar to this one -- is because after the NBA Finals all the Laker fans were adamant that both Ariza and Odom would be resigned and would play for less money because they want to win rings and they want to play with Kobe.

I disagreed and said the NBA and all pro leagues are about Business 1st with a capital "B" for both the player and the organization.

Now, the Lakers appear to be offerring Odom less money to stay in LA.....and to me he would be crazy to stay in LA when another team has a sweeter deal and the team you would play for is located where your home is AND there is no State Income Tax.

Could he still decide to stay in LA?   Absolutely.  But to me, he would be N.U.T.S to stay when the sweeter deal is in Miami.  Business 1st baby...NBA Titles does not put money in the bank...your NBA Contract puts money in the bank.

3BallBomber says:
07/28/09 10:12PM

and we all know what occurred next Miami Heat win 2006 NBA
Championship. It would be sweet revenge if Odom could do the same! Have a strange feeling He may sign with Miami.

3BallBomber says:
07/28/09 10:15PM

Buss was initially upset Odom did not take the first offer, for him to lower the offer proves LA don't mind losing Odom as it lessens the chances of him signing.
MoneyShot says:

damn, i wanted him to leave
westcoastTrojan says:

Boy do you love your Miami Heat. Every discussion always ends up talking about Miami. They can sign Odom, Bosh and Boozer, and they still wont win a championship. Bosh is out of the questions if your boys pick up Boozer, who's extremely overrated by the way. Dont get me started about Bosh.

westcoastTrojan says:

Odom resigns with the Lakers for 4 years $33 mil, less than what the Lakers originally offered. Gotta love the Lakers organization.

Odom should fire his agent for trying to get a better deal when it was obvious the Lakers were originally offering the most money.

ct1016 says:
07/31/09 09:07PM
Even with Odom, I do not think they will repeat.

Not acquiring Odom would of made things extremely difficult for them to repeat -- too many elite teams got better to say that LA will be sure think [lock] to repeat.

When you are the man, and LA is the man, everyone will want to hit them in the mouth every nite.

But yes resigning Odom was huge for LA.

ct1016 says:
07/30/09 08:50PM

This off season has been great --  and actually good to follow.

I thought he was leaving LA when they lowered the offer, but apparently, LA knew Odom wasn't going anywhere so they called his bluff and saved a few dollars.

It is truly a business, but Odom's decision appears to be one where he wanted to play in LA and continue to have ties to LA [I forgot that he also played with the Clippers -- so his entire career except for a couple with Miami -- has been with him playing for LA Lakers/Clippers.]

Odom is not enough for any team to make a title run who aren't already stacked but it will be the 1st step for Miami to land other pieces such as Boozer, a veteran pg and Bosh & Amare in 2010 considering also that Wade will probably most likely sign the extension if Odom signs with Miami.

Smart man Lamar!!! U know that you got an opportunity to win more titles in LA and how can you pass that up. He got money and this deal won't strip the food off his table.

You Done good Lamar and glad to have you back.
