Is Tim Hudson as good as Roy Halladay?

First off, you wont find a bigger Halladay fan than me.  The only jersey I wear during baseball season is his.  I think he's the best in the game right now.  I think a lot of people would tend to agree with me on that too.  If we were to name some more top of the line starting pitchers, we'd be talking, in no particular order, Lincecum, King Felix, Sabathia, Oswalt, Lee, Wainwright, Lester.  The usual bunch.  Not often does anyone mention Tim Hudson.

I recently got my first baseball preview book of the year and was shocked at the numbers though.

Games - Halladay 346, Hudson 345
Games Started - Hudson 344, Halladay 320
Wins - Halladay 169, Hudson 165
Losses - Halladay 86, Hudson 87
IP - Halladay 2297.1, Hudson 2288.1
ERA - Halladay 3.32, Hudson 3.42
WHIP - Halladay 1.18, Hudson 1.25
BAA - Hudson .250, Halladay .254
Hits Allowed - Hudson 2147, Halladay 2228
HR Allowed - Hudson 184, Halladay 196

If anything, there's a shit load of value available on Hudson.  Numbers that are just as good as Halladay's....but no pub for it!

Career numbers might be close, but Roy has been MUCH better than Hudson in five of the last six years. You can't use career numbers for fantasy baseball...

One thing you have to account for is that Roy played for a poor team in the Blue Jays for most of his career pitching in the stacked AL East while Hudson was in the weak AL West on a team that had the big 3 at the time where I could be wrong but I don't think he was the top starter there so he wasn't facing the other team's top pitcher. Also, last year Hudson was extremely lucky if you look at his batting average vs balls in play. Hudson also one more complete game in the last 6 years (10) than Halladay had last year and the two years before that (9 each)

Yea the Braves are an awesome team. 15 or so NL East titles and 1 WS win. One of the alltime choker teams of all time with the overated drunk Bobby Coxsucker.

haha wow i love the intensity. look, tim hudson is a great pitcher. one of the best we have in baseball right now. I loved him in oakland and i love him in atlanta. BUT...he is not as good a pitcher as roy halladay...and im a yankees fan. I cant stand the phillies (the fans mostly) but ive seen halladay pitch enough to know hes basically in a league of his own right now just above fellow philly, cliff lee. Hudson would fall somewhere around 5 or 6 in my top 10.

First of all, Tim Hudson is a great pitcher. However Halladay pitched against the strongest offensive division in baseball for his entire career. You could probably say the exact opposite about Hudson. In this situation, stats don't tell the full story.

By the way for all of you Phillies haters out there.....don't judge an entire fan base because of a few bad experiences. There are bad apples in every city. Meanwhile Philadelphia fans are about as loyal as they come, in all sports.

I agree with the stats being relatively close , but there is no way on gods green earth that you can possibly tell me that you would put your money on hudson to beat oswalt or I hope that your not trying to say you would give game 7 of the world series to any pitcher besides halladay with the close cliff lee cause that guy is a beast, you have to just look as hudsons stats as personal achievements because there really is no comparing the two..

The answer is, no, Tim Hudson is not as good as Roy Halladay.
