If I were General Manager of the Toronto Blue Jays

First we'd have to go over our roster, right now the team looks like this....

C - Rod Barajas
1B - Lyle Overbay
2B - Aaron Hill, Joe Inglett
SS - Marco Scutaro, John McDonald
3B - Scott Rolen
LF - Adam Lind
CF - Vernon Wells
RF - Alex Rios
DH - Travis Snider

SP - Roy Halladay, Jesse Litsch, Dustin McGowan (May), Casey Janssen
RP - B.J. Ryan, Scott Downs, Jeremy Accardo, Jesse Carlson, Brian Tallet, Brandon League, Jason Frasor, Shawn Camp

The backup catcher is going to come from within so we don't need to worry there.  An upgrade at first base would be a good idea so I'd make it known that I would trade Lyle Overbay and be willing to pay the majority of his salary to get rid of him.

Aaron Hill, who was brought through the system as a shortstop, would be told to prepare to move back.  That would let Joe Inglett continue to start at second base and Scott Rolen at third.  Joe McDonald would be my late inning defensive replacement & Marco Scutaro would be my fill in for players to have the day off.

The outfield looks great right now but we could use another bat.  I would look at the possibility of seeing if Adam Lind or Travis Snider could take over at first base once Lyle Overbay is shipped out of town.  That would open up an outfield or DH spot for a solid bat.

We need at least 1 Free Agent starter and could fill McGowan's spot till May from within.  But two free agent starters would be optimal.  B.J. Ryan would be offered to any team, and there's a lot out there who need a solid closer.

With all that being said, I'd offer a contract to Paul Byrd to be my fifth starter.  Paul Byrd is a solid fifth starter and would come pretty cheap in comparison to the rest.  But I'd make a splash by offering Derek Lowe an over-the-top, well overpaid contract to take Burnett's spot.

As for the bat, Manny Ramirez is the biggest name out there but he's not Blue Jay material.  Instead, I'd take a swing at Raul Ibanez.  A solid, career .286 hitter.  A likely 20 HR, 100 RBI player, and the new left fielder for the Blue Jays.

My lineup:
1 - 2B Joe Inglett
2 - 1B/DH Adam Lind
3 - RF Alex Rios
4 - CF Vernon Wells
5 - LF Raul Ibanez
6 - DH/1B Travis Snider
7 - 3B Scott Rolen
8 - SS Aaron Hill
9 - C Rod Barajas

My rotation:
1 - Roy Halladay
2 - Derek Lowe
3 - Jesse Litsch
4 - Casey Janssen
5 - Paul Byrd

I played baseball with A.J. back in the day here at Burns Park in NLR, AR.  I was shocked to see him opt out.  What is the word up there?

word is he wants more money - Jays have been expecting this since last offseason

the Jays won't pay him more than what Halladay is making and Halladay's max on his contract is $15.75 mill

Where do you think he'll wind up?  Has Tor been in talks with anyone?

you can't talk money, technically, till the 15th

I'm thinking he'll end up a Yankee or so we've been led to believe

Rumours in Toronto keep mentioning the names Derek Lowe, Pedro Martinez & Ryan Dempster

Bryd is a stiff, Jannsen is coming off arm troubles, their's no guarantee that McGowan will return to form..

I would accept Lowe or perhaps Dempster but this team is is a 75-80 win squad AGAIN

How about getting involved in the Holliday/Peavy Trade talks ..

I was one of the biggest skeptics for hte Jays in recent years but something tells me they compete next year.  I can't explain it, just a feeling.

FYI, Janssen is already throwing and apparently has his velocity & control

After watching Burnett all summer long, he really needs to go. Sitting at the games you should hear the fans, me included, actually questioning how hard he was really trying these past couple years. And then all of a sudden towards the end of the year, when it's time to impress other prospective teams in search for a big payday, he returns to A.J. for that we had thought we were paying $11 million a year for. I'd trade him just on principle. I hope someone takes B.J. Ryan off our hands too. Why we got rid of a good bat from the left side in Stairs, I don't know....especially since we were paying him dirt.Oh, I could go on and on and on....and ironically enough I'll still be at 70% of the games this coming year...call me a sucker for punishment I guess, lol.

Oh what a real fan will put up with eh?

Totally agree with you on BJ Ryan, that guy needs to go! If its not from a fan perspective, also from a betters- he alone is the reason I refuse to ever play the Jays on the run line... If they give him a 2 run lead it's almost a guarantee he gives up at least one.

AJ Burnett- Good Riddance... I mean the guy pitched some pretty sick games for us down the stretch but other then his Wins/K's his stats are average. Plus if he doesn't wanna commit to the franchise then get him outta there. (I bet we'll see him with the pinstripes on very soon.)

The Lineup- Definitely need some sort of an upgrade... I was very disapointed to see Barajas resigned, was hoping we would either land a big name or choose the youth route. Im not ready to pencil Travis Synder in as a full time starter yet... we've tried that before right Adam Lind?

Time will tell who JP's got his crosshairs on... but with the way he was been wasting money these last few years lets hope its well spent this time.
