Rasheed Wallace says the Boston Celtics can win more than 72 games

Man, I have to admit, I think we are going to occasionally miss ridiculous Rasheed Wallace comments this season. Sheed tells the Connecticut News that the Celtics are going to challenge the Chicago Bulls' record of 72 regular season wins:

"Definitely, playing with those three other guys, also combining that with the guys we have on the bench, I think we definitely can. Me personally, I think we can get that Bulls record. You know we have the talent for it. We have the will for it and ... I think we have the defense for it."

You sure, Rasheed? The writer, Thomas Halzack, even gave have a chance to back off, asking, "Do you want me to use that?" But you know Rasheed would not back off of a crazy quote:

"You can. Because honestly, I really do feel that. That was a good team. They had some HOFs on there, but we have a few on this team, too."

It's true, Boston has some good players. And if this was 2002, that Garnett/Pierce/Allen/Wallace foursome would be a little extremely imposing. But there's a lot of mileage on those guys, particularly KG, and he's still moving pretty gingerly on that knee.

Those 72-win Bulls had a still-in-his-prime, possibly best player of all-time in Michael Jordan on the roster. The Celtics don't even have a guy I would consider a top five player in the league right now (sorry P-squared). Everyone knew that Chicago team was historically good. There's not even a consensus on whether Boston is the best in the East, as most have Orlando or Cleveland favored. I don't see the Celtics winning more than 50-55 games, which is fine for them. No need to ratchet up the expectations.

They're too old, they will wear out in the end and will rest players when they have clinched a top seed.

Now the Lakers, they may have a shot at it.

sheed is a nut job but now he is our nutjob  as a celtics fan hearing this makes me chuckle. 72 wins? no wait 73? not a chance. garnett will be worked in slowly as not to wear out that knee. they will win 60 to 65 games and most likely have thenumber 1 seed in the east the bulls record is not worth all the effort it would take to get it. i hope the lakers try

Love the Celts but no way they win 70... They will win 60 though.  Their team is too old and they will be giving their players a lot of rest if possible and will give them a game off if they are slightly hurt.

That will be an extremely tough record to break..... i dont think it will get broken in my life time unless they managed to add a couple HOFers type players in their prime to lebrons team. the guy had a pretty weak surrounding cast last year and won all those games so imagine if they added another 2 superstar type players...

When he was with Detroit you probably hated his guts and wanted to spit on him when he came to the Garden. Now he's our guy!! This is why athletes don't give 2 sh*ts about the fans!! Ha Ha!!

Sheed said the C's CAN get 72 this year. He did not say they WILL get 72.

I share the same opinion. If they stay healthy, and focused, they CAN get 72 this year.

If anyone does it this year it will be the C's or the Lake Show.

This Celtics team was one and done, everyone knows it.
supadame says:

They were one and done supposedly, but last year before KG got hurt, they were killing the entire league with like a 28-2 record at the time. They were on pace to get 72 last year before KG got hurt.

One and done. Sure.

Just like they were gonna lose in 2008 to the Hawks?  Pistons? Cavs? Lakers?

You've been saying this shit for 2 years.. biggest homer on the board.  Your word means a TON.

Oh the irony!

The fakers will be the team that is truly one and done as they lose this year and Phil Jackson rides off into the sunset.

The Celtics could win 72 games if they played every game with the defensive intensity they are capable of.  They don't need it to win every game but look what happens when they let off a bit like tonight, the T-Wolves are going to put 100 on the Celtics, and the game goes down to the wire.  If they Celtics NEEDED this game no way the Wolves stay within 15, but the NBA is a marathon, not a sprint.

Look at the schedule in the East.  Honestly, the only two teams in the East that can touch the Cs are the Cavs and Magic, and Boston already won in Cleveland once. They will be favored in every other game against teams from the Eastern Conference that they play save maybe a back to back game at a Miami or Atlanta, assuming of course there are no injuries.  The only West teams that will be favored at home against the Celtics, again under normal circumstances, are the Lakers, Spurs, and probably the Nuggets.

Can they win 72, absolutley.  Will they, probably not, because winning 72 isn't the end goal, winning the NBA championship is.  If they stay healthy, they're my pick to win the East because they are so strong on defense, which everyone knows is how you win during the playoffs.

I'm not at all a Celtics fan by the way.

no not really. i have always respected his game and used to love to watch him play even at unc. this is a silly statement by a silly man. once an player puts on your uni he is part of your favorite team hence you support him.
