It hit 7.5 at Stations in Vegas but quickly receded back to 7.
Don't think it will ever get past the hook (7.5) because OSU bettors will bite it back every time it does.

USC is way over-rated , again, and this one is on the road. They have struggled vs far weaker teams the past few years, Or st, Zona, Wash, to name a few. They blow out SJ st who is just terrible, and people think USC is invincible, UFB. But this is why the books make so much money, and they simply love some of you suckers...

I'm going to leave this game alone.  I really don't want to lay a TD on the road against a good team.  However, USC's recent history suggests that they should win by double-digits.

USC hasn't lost a game by more than a TD in sever years. Their biggest problem is falling asleep once a year against vastly inferior opponents. But when they do lose, they don't collapse. In fact, their 27-0 in the month of November in the Pete Carroll era. And those in Vegas, had USC played UF in the BCS Championship game last year, they would've been a 4-point favorite.

Yet, all those said, I might take the TD with tOSU. Last year's tOSU team may have been one of the best ever in college football , but this year's team ain't too shabby either, even with the close win against Navy.

So where is the talent on OSU? I'm leaning on the home dog in this match up, but for the love of the game, where's the talent on this team?

Regarding USC, how about their defense? We all know they lost a lot. The D-line played well, but I'm not sold on their lbs yet. The secondary should be solid again.

kickinA says:
09/08/09 02:07PM

Yes you've missed the memo. This Californian is leaning toward OSU in this game. (Value-wise)

And yes, most of the pressure is on OSU in this game. Here's their chance to show everyone that they belong with the elites, with this game on their turf and to move up from their #6 ranking by finally upstaging the Big 12 killer that has been USC.

kickinA says:
09/08/09 02:09PM
I've been looking for talent on OSU's roster and can't seem to find any that is noticeable. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place. Conspiracy theorists will tell you that the talent lies within the officiating crew. McKnight breaks one for 50 yrds, but hold on a minute, there's a holding call on the offense.

westcoastTrojan says:
09/08/09 02:59PM
Yeah, but thats not enough for someone to be on OSU. There is a big disparity in talent here. BIG. And Barkley playing at OSU doesnt make me nervous one bit. Like you said, USC will run down their throats with that oline.

And I still dont like Jahvid :)

westcoastTrojan says:
09/08/09 03:32PM

I love your ideas. It makes sense. But does it make sense to Tressel.

I actually wouldnt mind if they stacked the line and asked Barkley to throw the ball. He'll do just fine. I understand he's a freshmen, but he's not normal. I think he's a robot.

If they stack the line, Damion Williams and McKnight go off!

westcoastTrojan says:
09/08/09 03:35PM

I'm ready baby!  Got my tickets confirmed. Scratched the RV idea since parking is a bitch.

Lets hope for healthy teams by the time Oct 3rd rolls around.

Then Mays can jack Best in the 1st qtr!

westcoastTrojan says:
09/08/09 01:40PM
I understand its on the road, thats one of 2 fears going into this game. But instead of it being 35-3, I see it being closer, somewhere in the 10-13 area.

Listen, OSU doesnt have any talent. Lets be real. If they did, I wouldnt be this confident. I'm usually not confident with my teams. I'm nervous Nelly. But I dont see anything on OSU that qualifies as studs. You can look up and down USC's roster and see #1 draft picks.

Someone, please tell me where the talent is. I dont want to hear about Herron or Saine. They are whackalicious.

People want to say USC has all the pressure going into this game, I think the opposite. When does USC ever feel pressure? You want to know what pressure is? Pressure is OSU fearful of losing this game and getting banged on by everyone about their lack of speed, about the weak Big 10, etc. Thats pressure. How many more games are we going to talk about OSU cant lose this game because its just too important for them and the Big 10?

westcoastTrojan says:
09/08/09 02:42PM

Well, good to know you just look at someones location and think they are biased. I'm far from biased. I'm one of the most reasonable fans out there. Pessimistic actually. I always think USC's going to be in trouble. People here will back me up and say I dont lean USC's way because thats my team.

But do me a favor, instead of looking at someone's location and writing them off as being a homer, tell me what OSU has, talent wise.

I'm still waiting for someone to answer that questions.

So far, the only advantage is Pryor and playing at home. Playing at home is a huge advantage, but what else?

westcoastTrojan says:
09/08/09 01:47PM

I've said it in the past, USC's linebackers are a big question mark, especially against a guy like TP. Gallippo is a stud. All American LB before he's done. But after that, I dont really like them that much. Not sold on Morgan, Smith, and freshmen Jones. But thats why I expect Taylor Mays to play closer to the line. USC's best attack would be to stack the line with 8 guys. Dare TP to throw on them.

I expect USC to play a little dirty this game. They've been talkign about putting the hurt on TP, not because they dislike him, but because its the only way to stop him.

westcoastTrojan says:
09/08/09 01:49PM
I think people are overthinking this game. I was one of them, until recent.
westcoastTrojan says:
09/08/09 01:50PM

OSU doesnt have the pressure? What? You think they enjoy being clowned because of their failures in big time games? You think they like being called slow?

They have all the pressure in the world.

westcoastTrojan says:
09/08/09 01:28PM

LOL. I love you man. You're simply the best.

Nobody is on USC because of what they did to SJSU. its because of how bad OSU looked against Navy. Seriously, is OSU deciding to go with even lesser speed? You can say all you want about OSU looking good until the end, but they did not. One person puts fear in me: TP. Thats it.

Is it me guys, but does this OSU team seem like one of the weaker one's they have had in a while. There isnt much talent, especially on offense. Its TP and nothing else. The offensive line sucks ass. If you break every position down, USC wins every battle except for the QB position. But when you consider Barkley and his o-line vs. TP and his o-line, that gap gets smaller.

Look, this game still scares me because its on the road in primetime. And TP scares me too. But when VY tore up USC, at least he had some talent with him. OSU rb's are a joke. Talk about overrated.

As every day passes, I start to feel even more comfortable about my Trojans. I never get like that. I feel a comfortable win coming, but I also dont feel like giving 7 points.

westcoastTrojan says:
09/08/09 01:30PM

Same shit was being said last year, and what happened. I dont think most people are on USC because of how OSU played against Navy. I think its based on talent. Where's the talent on OSU? Where? Show me.

westcoastTrojan says:
09/08/09 01:33PM

Interesting you'd mention the future #1 DC QB. Most people were dogging Sanchez going into that game. I had to convince people he was the real deal. Barkley will be fine. I just dont see OSU stopping the run. No way.

paris says:
09/08/09 01:56PM
Any chance we see OSU go 4 wide and run the spread vs USC the entire game, not just a few possessions?  I think it is the only way they have a chance to win.  Short passes or Pryor running for 5-6 yards because the defense has to at least man up on the receivers.  This could minimize OSU's O line problems.  USC has not been that great against the spread.  I know OSU will run the spread at times, but I mean the entire game they run the spread.  I clearly am not an expert and have never coached in my life, but that just seems to be the only chance they have offensively to get a W.  Any thoughts?????
paris says:
09/08/09 03:13PM
The other question I have about OSU is on the defensive side of the ball.  Any chance they load the box and say to the frosh, beat us in the air???  I know USC has some great WR's and OSU secondary is average, but if they load the box and SC decides to do play action, frosh is gonna have to make a quick decision.  So my keys for OSU victory would be taking some fucking risks for once.  Running spread the entire game and putting several in the box to stop the run.  Any thoughts????

KOAJ, you might be talking about another Big 10 team and I'm just having a blonde moment. If thats the case, forgive me. But Carroll did see Pryor a bit last year.....

I just dont want him to put on his Vince Young superman cape, coat himself with teflon, and run all over the Trojan defense.

Huge Buckeye Fan, and I am not betting this game.

I want the Buckeyes to win badly for the sake of the program, much less the Big 10, but I do not see any way in which they can step up from the Navy game and be ready to take on the horses that USC will be bringing in to the Shoe.  Simply stated, OSU is built to win the Big 10, and frankly no matter how well Michigan or Penn State played last week, I think the Buckeyes are still the team to beat this yr for the B10 BCS bid.

This is not the USC that slaughtered the Buckeyes last year, but I have a feeling that Pryor will be trying to do too much.

I believe the biggest argument to back OSU is that a freshman QB is starting in the "shoe."  That is the only conclusion I can come up with, but Barkley will not be asked to win this game.  USC will dominate the line of scrimmage and run the ball at will....and this is coming from a CAL fan.

PeterGrifin1Fan says:

Mr. Insight, that's not a bad idea against USC.  While USC does have good team speed, that might be a good way to neutralize it and take advantage of Pryor's speed.
PeterGrifin1Fan says:
09/08/09 01:51PM
USC will probably play 8 men in the box (Taylor Mays maybe) and force Pryor to beat them with his arm and not his feet.  If Pryor can have a good game throwing the ball, OSU has a chance but I have yet to see anything spectacular with his arm yet.
PeterGrifin1Fan says:
09/08/09 01:48PM
People don't need to worry bout Barkley because Carroll won't even call on him to do much.  Navy ran down THE Ohio State's defense and you're looking at a USC backfield six deep with the best offensive line in the country getting All-American Kris O'Dowd back this week.

Barkley started off rough last week but once they started running playaction and getting him outside the pocket, he did very well.

And Pryor is as athletic of a QB that USC has seen since Vince Young...but a lot of people don't know that the linebacking core that USC has this year is the quickest that Pete Carroll has ever fielded.  They don't have the size that last year's core had but their overall team speed on defense is amazing.  And last time I checked, Navy's defense was undersized and played pretty well.

Even the OSU faithful are expecting a blowout...

http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/sports/stories/2009/09/08/arace_9-8.ART_ART_09-08-09_C1_VFF0KF2.html?type=rss&cat=&sid=101

USC has dominated the Big-10 since 2001 and it really doesn't matter when or where they play.  Carroll gets his team fired up for these games against ranked teams.  He fails against inferior opponents so I really don't see a lull coming from this USC squad this coming week.  Taking USC big on this one.
Boise_Brian says:
09/08/09 03:42PM
Although USC has lost a ton of talent, they are still USC.  Their 2nd and 3rd stringers would be starters on 80% of other teams.
"USC has a freshman QB, starting for first time" ... I trust Pete Carrol. (he knows what he is doing)   If he says to start him, he'll be just fine.

prediction USC 41

NCCapper says:

I do think we will see alot of empty backfield looks from OSU this weekend.  However, the best chance OSU has to win this game is to get up early, which will nuetralize the USC run game, and make Barkley throw the ball.  If the Buckeyes get up early (14 points) I like their chances.  If USC gets up early its gonna be a long day for OSU linebackers.  USC will run the ball until OSU proves that they can stop it.

they played at USC. there is such a big difference. also pryor was a true freshman. the pick 6 in that game was huge too.

im not saying OSU's team is stellar this year or worthy of their #6? ranking.. but USC's is not one of their best teams in recent years either.

personally im staying away from the game, but id be happy taking the points with OSU, and if they get crushed.. well they get crushed and everyone still has the same opinions about OSU and the Big 10.

paris says:

Ohio state has not lost by more than 10 points at home in the last 15 years.  I think Illinois with Simeon Rice might have beat them good.  I don't have time to do the research, but they have played a national champ and a few BCS teams and not lost by more than 10 points.  I think it is even lower.  So you think a team in their rebuilding year on defense is gonna waltz into the shoe in front of 105k people with a freshman QB and rout them.  They might win, but the points look nice here.

paris says:
09/09/09 05:00PM

They played the national champ Texas, who beat USC.  They have Oklahoma and Miami on future schedules.  Scheduling is not as easy as you think.  We had Notre Dame on the schedule but then bitch slapped them and they wanted no part of us.  I think it is tough for a SEC or PAC-10 school to schedule a team like OSU OOC.  They go through a tough enough schedule.  OSU is not the only team that has a weak OOC schedule.  Look around..

Point 2 likely applies to USC, Florida, or LSU (the national champ).  Those teams beat pretty much everyone they played, so how is that a fair comparison?  USC dominated everyone except 1 team last year.  They could have beat Florida if they played.  So they kill Ohio State without Wells and the PAC-10 is superior to Big 10 overall.  I'm not sure.  Yes, USC is dominate, but you think your darling Cal would just walk into Penn State this year and win??  I think they would be underdogs.  How about Oregon State playing at Iowa.  Not sure that would be easy.

CalBear says:

OSU was looking ahead to this game, since that thrashing last year! they couldnt stop navy from running, but who can?! the problem was OSU's lack of respect(preperation for the pass) USC on the road w/ a true freshman qb, in the horshoe! tough, but i think the multitude of rbs USC has will get the job done, im stayin away from the game , there is money to be made elsewhere..ieND over Big Blue!, if a gun was held to my head, and i had to choose, at +7or+7.5 im taking OSU to keep it close but lose the game! its not about who wins its about who covers and who dont!

plz tell me you were being sarcastic with that statement.......the whole big 10 is garbage this year and has been garbage for the last several years

USC is the fastest, most talented team OSU will play all year. If OSU cant stop Navys offense, what the hell makes you think they have a chance of stopping USC??

TP is talented, but nowhere near Vince Young.........

USC puts up 40 something points in a rout.....
sativasdaddy says:
09/08/09 10:14PM

OSU hasnt lost at home by that many because they havent played anyone halfway decent at home. The big 10 is complete trash and besides USC, their non conference games have been against patsies.......what if USC had came to the horseshoe last year??? It probably would have been the same 35-3 ass whoopin if not worse.

And USC in a rebuilding year is still better than 98% of the schools out there........

It comes down to team speed. Look what has happened every recent time a big 10 school has played a big game against the pac-10 or SEC........a complete mismatch based strictly on speed and they have usually ended in blowouts. It doesnt matter if they're playing this game in Jim Tressels backyard, USC simply has too much size, talent and speed.
sativasdaddy says:
09/10/09 12:57AM

Those are great points. There are plenty of top notch schools around the country that schedule their non-conference games against the worst teams they can find. There are also the few schools who go out and look for a tough OOC oppenent to prove their metal(which is great for college football IMO)

And about your 2nd point, don't you think its a coincidence that those national champs you named are from either the pac-10 or SEC?? Speed matters, and the big 10 just doesnt have it like the SEC or pac-10 does.

And yes, I do believe if Cal was to go to happy valley this year they would win, again with the speed and size, PSU would not be able to control the line of scrimmage(similar to last Januarys Rose Bowl). We will be able to see Cal's speed and talent when they travel to Minnesota a week from Saturday, granted MN is not close to Penn St in talent but still a cross country OOC game for Cal.

10??? Vegas would be begging for OSU money if that were the case. Also, that line would be suited for the Bush-Leinert era teams. BTW, the early line at some books was 4 pts.
If that were the case I would definitely take the # 8th ranked team in the country playing at home vs a young, inexperienced QB if that applied here. Too many things can go wrong with this scenario that 10 points would take care of for me to make that bet.

I am a WHOOGE Big10 advocate, and this game is the opportunity for Ohio State to represent the Big10 in a possible Bowl match up.

I have always said the Pac10 kills the Big10 in the Rose Bowl because of its location.  If The Trojans had to go to the BigHouse or HappyValley (or now the Horseshoe) to play the Rose Bowl, would they be so dominante?  I always thought NO WAY....

If I was a hoping man, I would hope that the Buckeyes bring a little pride back to this cross conference match up........  But Im a betting man....  and my money is invested in Chalk.
