Gambling Pet Peeves

I have just come across my biggest pet peeve in gambling.  I actually do a descent amount of work in preparing my picks, whereas I have friends who just listen to whatever is on ESPN.

Yesterday I got a call from 3 friends asking him if I liked New Orleans -11.  I said either take Atlanta or don't play because it was way to many points to give.  Immediately I start hearing "Dude Saints are going to romp, are you crazy!"  Something along these lines happened each of the 3 calls.

Pet Peeve 1:  Why would you ask me if you were just going to disagree anyways?

I eventually just end the conversation with well I'm going to try and double up what I won on sunday (3-1 on my posted picks for the record) on Atlanta.  This prompted them to follow my lead and ask me to put in the bets, and by the time I got the bets in it was Atlanta +11.5.

I'm getting texts in the 2nd quarter while the game is tied telling me it looks like the Saints are going to pull away with it soon, I know it.

Pet Peeve 2:  Expecting the worst to happen.

Drives me absolutely insane when someone has to point out everything that can possibly go wrong, or is currently going wrong.  Sit back and watch the game, especially in a tie game when your +11.5.

Sure enough as I'm telling people to calm the fuck down at 21-14, Matt Ryan throws a pick 6, 28-14.  Phone is blowing up again, telling me were fucked, and they should have bet the Saints.

Pet Peeve 4:  Conceding a game is over if your not covering at the moment.

Pet Peeve 5:  Telling me the pick you asked me for was wrong, and that you should have bet your own pick.

If a game is 28-0 and you +3 or something, yea the game is probably over.  It's 28-14 and your +11.5, your a field goal away from covering again.

Well as the story goes the Falcons ended up coming out to play in the 2nd half.  Forced a three and out and immediately scored.  If  Roddy White catches that TD, the game would have become a little bit more interesting.  The Falcons might have been able to win outright.  The texts of course just stopped when it got to be 28-24, and did not hear from anyone the rest of the night.

Pet Peeve 6:  When people do not thank you for talking you out or making a losing pick, and making a winning pick.

I am not always right, but I do win more games than I lose.  However poor money management usually prevents me from profiting more than I should.  But when I'm wrong people are all over me, when I'm right, nothing.

scho525-You hit on several things here that are natural to most people.

1) In most situtions, people are negative and expect the worst to happen. Which is usually want they get.....

2) They want you to agree with them. Even though the only way for you or for them to learn anything is by disagreement. They want you to think like they do.

3) Weather you choose to believe this or not, your friends are rooting against you.

4)You forgot pet peeve #3!

I could lie but I have to admit that i do some of your pet peeves lmao I ask some of my friends what they think then argue, I do expect the worst to happen and I do concede way too easily, I do however thank people who give me good tips and I never would blame someone for a pick I make. It is just my personality to assume the worst its a horrible habit, I am not really a negative person outside of betting but for whatever reason I always expect the worst.... Maybe thats why I am tough to watch a game with lol

Your friends should get a life if they are calling you on every score. If they don't like your pick let them go the other way.
Good luck

Yes, I did have number 3 but must have deleted it somehow.  It did not come up in this game because we were +11.5, but have had time where I convinced someone to bet a dog that pushed.  For some reason they would have felt better had they bet their team, but still pushed.

I just hate most people who bet.  I'll have 220 on a game while someone in the same room has 55.  They go crazy and I just sit there and stir my drink.

I know exactly what you mean.  I have got into shouting matches with good friends because of how fucking illogical they can be with their picks and their reasoning.  Don't mix business with friendship.  Its one of those cardinal, unspoken rules that everyone should follow.

I don't need to convince anyone of my picks.  Don't mix business with friends and family, I can't stress that enough.
