NFL Betting Review – Sportsbook – Online Betting

The sports betting public, or at least those who love their NFL betting, had a good day overall on Sunday. The NFL picks fell the public’s way, as the favorites went 10-5 against the spread on Sunday, which usually means a winning day for bettors.

Looking back at the NFL action, two of the unbeatens came out of the day with a loss attached to their record. Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons lost to New England, while San Francisco lost an absolute heartbreaker in the final seconds to the Vikings. The 49ers did cover the pointspread, which was 6 ½ (that looked like one of the Best Bets of the week) but to let Favre throw a 32-yard TD on the last play of the game is unforgivable. You have got to be able to defend against a pass that far out with no other options but to go to the end zone. The 49ers held Adrian Peterson in check keeping him under 100 yards and were playing a solid road game up until the last minute. But that Niner team is looking good, despite the defensive lapse.

The Patriots covered the spread (4 ½ points) beating the Falcons 26-10 to drop them to 2-1 on the season.  The linesmakers set this Over/Under lines at 46, and by game time, online sportsbook was reporting that 57% of all the wagering volume on the Total was bet on the “Over”. But it was the “Under” bettors who cashed tickets when the final gun went off, as the two teams only combined for 36 points, as the Patriots contained Matt Ryan and Michael Turner, holding Turner to just 56 ya... NFL Betting: NFL Rookie of the Year Betting - Sportsbook

Two games into the NFL season and the Rookie of the Year NFL future odds have been shaken up a little as the sports betting community re-evaluates based on a couple of early performances.

One rookie has really stood out in Week 1 and 2 and his stock has risen amongst sports bettors. Jets’ quarterback Mark Sanchez is that guy. While many rookies are still just trying to get on the field or are the second and third options in an offensive scheme, the Jets top pick has led his team to two upset victories.

Sanchez began the season with NFL odds of 8-1 to win Rookie of the Year, but is now the front-runner. Sanchez served notice in his league debut when he threw for 272 yards and a touchdown in Houston against the Texans, who many felt are set to become a top team in the AFC. He followed up that performance in Week 2 with a strong second half showing; outperforming Patriots QB Tom Brady in leading the Jets to their first win in nine tries at home against New England.

Sanchez has settled right in and performed well beyond his years. He is the talk of the town and after two games looks like he has the tools to be an impact player – but yes, it is still early.

Online Sportsbook reported solid action coming in on Sanchez after his pre-season performances, but the betting really heated up the last two weeks.

The Lions QB Mark Stafford was also list... [More]

New York Yankees Clinch Playoff Berth – Sportsbook – Online Betting

After missing the postseason for the first time in 13 seasons in 2008 the New York Yankees made sure that won’t happen again this year.

The Yanks clinched a playoff spot on the strength of a 6-5 road win over the L.A. Angels and a 9-1 Texas Rangers loss to the Oakland Athletics.

Brett Gardner scored the tiebreaking run on Alex Rodriguez's sacrifice fly in the ninth as the New York Yankees celebrated clinching their 14th playoff appearance in 15 seasons Tuesday night with a 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

The Bronx Bombers have clinched a Wild Card berth at worst and at best they can capture the AL East division.

Online Sportsbook is providing the information on New York Yankees.

The Pinstripers are the odds-on favorites to win the AL Pennant at +100 and the World Series at +225.

The Yankees play another game against the L.A. Angels, this time an afternoon affair, and are listed at +124 underdogs.

New York has struggled in its last 20 road games against the Angels going 5-15 straight up.

Sportsbook - Cowboys’ RB Marion Barber to Miss Two Games

Not only did Dallas lose Sunday night, RB Marion Barber suffered a strained quadriceps muscle in the fourth quarter of the game.

According to sportingnews.com, Barber will miss between one and two games, although no official word has come from the Cowboys yet.

Yesterday, the Dallas Morning News reported that the injury wasn’t serious and Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said Barber would undergo an MRI.

Through two games, Barber ran the ball 32 times for 203 yards (6.3 yards per carry) and two scores as the lead back in Dallas. He also caught two passes for 31 yards.

Online Sportsbook is providing the information on RB Marion Barber’s Quadriceps Injury.

If injury is indeed minor, Barber will have an extra day of rest as the Dallas Cowboys’ next game is next Monday against the Carolina Panthers–Dallas is still a 9-point home fave.

Dallas has gone 7-3 straight up in its last 10 matchups against Carolina overall.

The Dallas Cowboys opened their new billion-dollar stadium with a 33-31 loss on Sunday Night Football to the hated New York Giants–failing to cover as 3-point home faves.

NFL Betting Tips – Week 2 – Online Betting

- Watching the action in Week 1 has given sports bettor a lot to go on when they start to do their sports handicapping for Week 2 games. We’ve circled a few games with good odds to track while planning your bets.

One full week of NFL football is in the books and people in the sports betting world seem to agree on one thing: 60 minutes of regular season football teaches you more about each team than 240 minutes of preseason ever could.

What did we learn from the first week of NFL Online Betting that can be of use for picking winners in Week 2?

One thing we know about the Chicago Bears is that even with Jay Cutler at QB, defense is still king in the Windy City. Since Coach Lovie Smith took over in 2004 the Bears’ defense has accounted for 21-percent of the team’s scoring (compared to league average of nine-percent). When Danieal Manning forced a safety, sacking Aaron Rodgers in the end zone in the second quarter, it looked like that unit might take over the game.

Pittsburgh is in Chicago for the Bears home opener this week and so far bettors are leaning towards the "Under" 37.5 but online sportsbook is reporting some early money showing up on the home team Bears. Bettors appear willing to give Cutler another chance at showing what he can do, this time at home.

Monday Night Football Previews

All you can eat NFL serves up another dish for sports bettors in Week 1, rounding out the card with a Monday Night Football doubleheader.

Two of the biggest heavyweights in the NFL are set to take the field on Monday Night Football and even though they won’t be playing each other, it still gives football bettors a good opportunity to consider some action.

New England and San Diego are the two favorites for the Week 1 doubleheader and judging by the line movement at online sportsbooks, both teams are the betting public’s pick to win big. The Patriots have been a double-digit favourite since odds first went up, with the current line set at most books as Pats -11. It’s only a one-point move and it’s not surprising considering Tom Brady’s return to the line-up – and the Buffalo Bills’ apparent futility. Buffalo’s first team offense was held scoreless in each of the team’s last three preseason games.

Movement in the Chargers game vs. the Oakland Raiders is another story. Most online sportsbooks had the Bolts figured for a one-TD advantage but can hardly keep up with money the Chargers are attracting. Sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com is reporting almost 80% of all the betting action coming in on this game showing up on San Diego. The books NFL lines show the Chargers favored by 10 points.

Double-digit road favs on Monday Night are not all that common. One reason is that the l... [More]

Monday Night Football, Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots

Monday Night Football, Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots:

Line: Patriots – 11

Over/Under: 46

Tom Brady is back as the Patriots’ starting quarterback after missing all of 2008, creating very high expectations for the 2009 season. At betrepublic, New England is the odds-on favorite to win the Super Bowl.

Bet Republic does not have the Patriots as their Super Bowl pick (check out all the NFL predictions for this season), but we fully understand why many have chosen them as their pick to win it all.

Pats’ head coach Bill Belichick has reloaded on both sides of the ball. The defense has lost six starters from last year including Tedy Bruschi, Junior Seau, Rodney Harrison, Ellis Hobbs, Mike Vrable and most recently Richard Seymour. The defense is younger and faster but lacks experience and leadership.

New England’s offense has all the pieces in place to dominate every game they play this coming season. The offense that terrorized the league in 2007 has most of its players... [More]

NFL Picks – Week 1

Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers

Lambeau Field – Sunday Night - NBC

Line: Packers – 3 ½
Over/Under: 46

The oldest rivalry in football is one of the feature games from Week 1 NFL betting action. This battle goes back as far as 1923, when the first meeting resulted in a 3-0 Bears win (they covered as a 2.5-point favorite….just kidding)

This weekend’s game has a line on it of -3.5 that’s the current line at sportsbookSPORTSBETTING.com).

The line actually opened at -3, but steady money has been coming in on the home team Packers, pushing the line up to -3.5. Most online sportsbooks are reporting 70 to 75% of the betting volume is Green Bay money. I don’t see that changing as we get closer to kick-off, and in fact, I think this number could reach -4.

So if you like the Packers (check below for our pick on this one) you might want to get your bet in now.

The Bears head to Lambeau having won four of the last five games in Green Bay, but note that they were blown out last year 37-3 in Week 11.

In Week 16 the Bears hosted Green Bay and turned the tables beating them 20-17 in overtime.

But this year is different, as the Packers will face a Bears team that finally has a franchise quarterback. This season the rivalry is renewed with a legitimate QB showdo... [More]

NFL Picks Week 1, Sunday’s NFL Schedule, Week One NFL Picks

The sports betting community, bet republic like most sports betting enthusiasts, we were anxiously awaiting the kick-off to the new NFL season. Thursday night gave us a tase of what was to come, as the Titans and Steelers mixed it up in Pittsburgh.

We broke that game down in our Thursday Night sports betting TV show and will go through all the Sunday action in our Sunday NFL Blitz sports betting TV show at the site.

Here are a handful of NFL picks and write-ups from the Bet Republic office focused on Sunday’s NFL schedule.

It’s always tough making football picks in Week 1 since preseason games are the only opportunity we’ve had so far to really gauge the impact of off season player/coaching changes. Looking over the odds online presented a handful of spots that could be a good betting opportunity and we’ve previewed those games here.

Into the 2009 season we go…

Miami Dolphins at Atlanta Falcons

NFL Odds: Falcons -4

Over/Under: 44

Online Betting - Big Tuna’s Impact on NFL Odds – Sportsbook

Bill Parcells, aka The Big Tuna, made a splash in his first year with the Miami Dolphins but the best could be yet to come. Miami is the host city for Super Bowl XLIV and while oddsmakers are giving them little chance of making an appearance. History shows it may not be as an unlikely as you think.

At the start of the 2007 NFL season online sportsbooks had odds on the Miami Dolphins to win Super Bowl XLII listed somewhere between slim and none. Offensive-minded Cam Cameron was brought in; the club’s fourth head coach in as many years, to try and infuse an offense whose scoring had sunk to the depths of the league.

Those odds attracted very few bettors and as the Fish stumbled out of the gate, losing 13-straight games, the figures became a moot point.

Bill Parcells, aka The Big Tuna, was signed near the end of the season and began his rebuilding project by axing both Cameron and Randy Mueller, the club’s general manager.

Among other front office moves, Parcells hired Tony Sparano as the team’s new head coach. The two had worked together in Dallas but this was Sparano’s first head coaching post at the pro level.

Super Bowl Future Odds: When bookmakers listed odds to win Super Bowl XLIII at the start of the 2008 season, even after including the Tuna-factor, Miami was still listed at 125-to-1, tied with Kansas City for last in the league.

No Super Bowl for Miami but an 11-5 SU record on the heels of that 1-15 SU season in 2007 shows what ... [More]

England v Australia 3rd ODI Preview, Ed Hawkins Betting Recommendations

If you want to bet on Wednesday's big match at the Rose Bowl in Hampshire make sure you read the thoughts of sports betting community chief cricket analyst Ed Hawkins.

You can always find Hawkins updated betting previews at the popular sports betting social networking site “bet republic”

Having lost the first two one-day internationals (ODIs) against Australia Bet Republic cricket analyst Ed Hawkins reckons England are the value bet to win the third match (of the seven-match series) on Wednesday.

If you want to read Ed Hawkins' Preview of the game, then you can read it here.

At the moment England are a best-priced 11/8 (available across the board) while Australia are a best-priced 3/5 (with Bwin). But if Hawkins has told members of the sports betting community to back England he also believes he has unearthed a key stat that can also be used to turn a profit on the game, which will be played at Hampshire’s Rose Bowl ground.

Free Football Contests, Football Betting Lines and NFL Future Odds

The 2009 NFL regular season is here...finally. Thursday night it all starts with two of the AFC’s top teams. Both the Tennessee Titans and the Pittsburgh Steelers are amongst the favorites when looking at the NFL odds for “Who will win the AFC” NFL future bets.

The Steelers are a 6-point home favorite in the Thursday night opener and early NFL betting action, according to online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com, is favoring the host squad. So far, bettors are giving Pittsburgh 67% of all the action bet on this tilt.

I haven’t made my mind up yet which way I’m going to go, but I do know I don’t feel that comfortable laying 6 points and taking the Steelers. I think the Titans, even without Albert Haynesworth, are going to be tough to handle. So I guess I’m starting to lean to the underdog, but again, I still have to dig deeper.

Free Football Contest

Every year I like to play a few yearlong football contests and this year is no different. I have joined the new $1 million “Pigskin Pick 14” at SPORTSBETTING.com.
What’s very cool about this one, aside from the $1 million grand prize is that you can round up some friends and set up your own private league to compete against each other. And if you get 20 friends to join your league, SPORTSBETTING.com will put up a $100 prize for your league.

NFL Lines - NFL Picks – NFL Live Lines and NFL Future Odds

The best part of Week 4 preseason is the fact you can see the real season just over the fence...and in this case, we are less than a week away from betting into regular season NFL odds on the Week 1 matchups.

But there are still a handful of preseason games remaining. Let’s take a look at three of the matchups from Friday night.

All lines are courtesy online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com

NFL Picks

Houston Texans at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

NFL Lines: Houston: - 3
Over/Under: 34

Both teams are 1-2 going into the last preseason game. Houston will sit gimpy QB Matt Schaub to rest his ankle for the home opener against the Jets. Second-string quarterback Rex Grossman has a hamstring injury but will see limited duty. Dan Orlovsky will start and look to improve on his last performance against the Vikings in week three where he completed seven-of-11 passes for 74 yards, with an interception and no touchdowns. Keep an eye on WR Jacoby Jones to continue his strong preseason and rookie running back Arian Foster to get most of the carries. Rookie LB Brian Cushing could see his first preseason action.

Tampa Bay is entering this game after having fired Offensive Coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski and will look to open up the playbook to get better results than their first three games. The Bucs have named Byron Leftwich their starting QB and he will sit this one out handing the reigns over to hi... [More]

England v Croatia: Premier League Premier Show at BRTV

England have unfinished business in their World Cup Qualifier against Croatia on Wednesday, 9 September 2009. Bet Republic TV (BRTV) host Steve Claridge and guest host Jason Cundy look at the big match up.

To watch Steve Claridge and Jason Cundy’s video preview of this all-important game between England and Croatia go here (to see it on YouTube):

We all remember that fateful night in November 2007, when a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Croatia at Wembley cost England a place at Euro 2008. Well, on Wednesday night England have vowed to make it pay-back time by beating the same team and earning qualification to next year’s World Cup.

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard was the England captain that night, and the memory of that defeat will drive him to succeed when the two countries clash again on Wednesday night.

“There is unfinished business for all of us,” he said on the Liverpool FC fans’ website. “The result and the performance that night really hurt us. It was definitely my lowest moment in an England shirt. It has taken a long time to get over it. I'm still not over it now, to be honest.

Football Picks Of Steve Claridge's, Jason Cundy's

STEVE CLARIDGE'S AND JASON CUNDY’S FOOTBALL PICKS FOR 5-6 SEPT 2009

Former professional football players Steve Claridge and Jason Cundy used to play for Portsmouth FC - but now they are playing for BetRepublic.com

It wasn’t long ago that Steve Claridge and Jason Cundy were playing for Portsmouth but now they are putting their football skill to another use – helping members of the fast-growing sports betting community “BetRepublic” find a few winning bets this weekend.

The two former football pros love to pit their wits against the bookmakers and believe their considerable knowledge of the game helps to give them an edge when it comes to rooting out the betting value.

In every game of football bookmakers price up over 100 different betting markets which can prove a bit of a minefield for inexperienced punters.

“And that’s where we come in,” says Claridge. “We can look at the game from a professional footballer’s perspective and come up with a few betting recommendations that make real sense to us."

Claridge normally acts as a pundit on the Premier League Preview Show with sports betting expert James Eastham. But this week the former Portsmouth, Millwall and Cambridge U... [More]

NFL Betting - 2009 NFL Rookie of the Year Betting

As the 2009 season is set for kick-off, bettors at online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com have been turning up the heat on getting their NFL future wagers in before the Thursday night opening game. One of the popular NFL betting options has been the Offensive Rookie of the Year future odd offering.

Quarterback Matt Ryan won the Offensive Rookie of the Year last season after leading the Falcons to the playoffs. Since 1957, when the award was first given, only three quarterbacks have won the award including Ryan, Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger in 2004 and Tennessee's Vince Young in 2006.

Ryan was a landslide winner in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league. He collected 44 votes, far in front of Titans running back Chris Johnson with three.

This year the likelihood of a quarterback winning the award is high since both Mark Sanchez (NYJ) and the No. 1 overall pick, Mathew Stafford (Det) have earned starting jobs. Online sportsbooks are offering 8-to-1 odds on either of the two rookie pivots to take the honor in 2009.

At SPORTSBETTING.com, Sanchez has been seeing steady betting volume the last two weeks, with him currently sitting at 16% of all the betting volume for this betting option.

More running backs have won the award than any other position and this year’s rookie class is complete with three top runners.

Knowshon Moreno (DEN) is the favorite, paying back 3-to-1, as the Broncos a... [More]

NFL Betting: Analysis On Thursday Night NFL Preseason Games

Sports bettors have one week left of preseason NFL football before the real season begins. Thursday night will be a busy one in the sports world, with 12 NFL games and the official kick-off to the NCAA football season, with a bunch of matchups highlighting their traditional Thursday night start to the new season.

As for the NFL betting during Week 4 of the preseason, these are very difficult games to handicap. Keep in mind most of the starters either won’t see any action, or a series or two at most. Week 4 games represent the last chance for many of the long-shots to make their respective teams.

Bet Republic will go through all the action on our Wednesday Night Betting Show and our Thursday Night Prime Time online sports betting program.

Let’s take a look at two inter-conference games that still have a bit of mystique. The Eagles are in New York to face the Jets and the Browns take on the Bears in Chicago.

NFL Football Betting - NFL Preseason Betting Angle - Football Betting Online

The original teams of the American Football League are celebrating a 50th Anniversary this year and for all eight of them it’s quite a big deal. Football bettors following these teams through the preseason are in the spirit, too, thanks to an NFL betting angle that’s hitting over 70-percent and going strong.

When you add up all the Total numbers at the end of a football season, the Over/Under stats usually finish up close to 50-50. For that reason it is very rare to find an auto-play or even a sports betting trend that can be played blindly and produce a consistent profit. It’s always great for sports bettors when they can find an angle, work on the games that fit the profile and narrow down the best bet on the weekly NFL betting board.

There is one select group of teams this year that’s been performing at a consistent rate through the preseason and it’s caught our eye. We;re curious to see if this potential angle is worth watching into the regular season. It’s the original eight AFL teams. It’s the league’s 50th Anniversary this year, and it seems to be getting these teams “up” for their games – in spirit and scoring.

AFL Teams Go “Over”: The original eight teams, as they are now known, are New England, Oakland, Tennessee, Buffalo, the Jets, Kansas City, San Diego and Denver. Each of these teams has played at least three preseason games this year and the 24 matchups have produced 17 overs and 7 unders. That’s better than 70-percent to the high side.
