Best NBA Draft Picks by number from the 1980s and up

Thought this might spark a debate, but this is my own opinion of the greatest players drafted by number. I am only doing it up to 13. Remind you this is only going back to 1980.

1. Shaquille O'neal/Tim Duncan (This is the only spot I could not make a decision and just choose one person. Both have 4 championship rings and were extremely productive during their primes. If Shaq, Duncan, and Lebron were all rookies, I would still take Shaq or Duncan over Lebitch.)

2. Isiah Thomas (If I do this in a few years, Kevin Durant probably would take the slot, but as of now Zeke still wins this)

3. Michael Jordan (obvious choice IMO, the greatest ever to play the game no doubt.)

4. Byron Scott (pretty weak class of people who were drafted fourth. Chris Paul or Bosh might define their careers with a title in the next few years. When they do, they can reclaim this spot.)

5. Scottie Pippen (Going old school with Pip over guys like KG and Wade. He was the perfect complementary player to MJ and took this team to a near championship when MJ was striking out at baseball.

6. Bradon Roy (very weak class of people at 6)

7. Chris Mullin (next best is Rip Hamilton, but no one COULD or CAN wet a 3 like Mullin did it)

8. Detlef Schremp (similar to Mullin. This man could SHOOT.)

9. Dirk Nowitzki

10. Paul Pierce (the truth easily wins this spot)

11. Robert Horry (big shot bob takes the cake here. Can you name me a player who made more 3 point daggers during the clutch? I am passing up my idol Reggie Miller for this spot

12. Mookie Blaylock (this man was a poor man's Gary Payton for the Hawks back in the day and he did his job well. This is the weakest class of the 13 in my opinion.)

13. Kobe Bryant (the easiest choice not named MJ)

#4 is difficult - I could argue with Mutombo?

#5 I can argue any of these players were or are better than Pippen and they are: Sir Charles, KG, & Wade

#11 Reggie Miller

Some of those classes really turned out to be weak.

Good list....I would take Barkley over Pippen however.

kobe was a steal considering where he was drafted...

the lebron/melo/wade class had great value in getting franchise players after #1 pick...

some drafts dont even have one franchise player...

I love Charles Barkley to death. Who can't love a degenerate gambler who always says "thats turrible!"?

But, Sir Barkley never led his team to championships while Pip has 6. When I was making this list, championship rings were more important than personal stats.

Being from Indy, not including Reggie was the hardest thing about this list. I loved watching Miller Time as a kid. When he retired after losing to the Pistons, I had tears in my eyes. But, Big Shot Bob has 6 rings, while Miller always got screwed by the refs when playing the Bulls, especially game 7 1997 conference finals. I believe the pacers, if they would have won, would have beaten Malone and Stockton. But, thats another conversation for another day.

Not sure what your problem is asshole, but I thought I would get some more input on what people thought. Maybe you should jump off the nearest cliff today assfuck

not sure what the problem with bumping this thread. You want to know why I bumped it? Because i FUCKING wanted to   Why don't you play a nice game of hide and go FUCK YOURSELF

Pippen may have won 6 titles but he didn't do anything without Jordan that Barkley didn't do.

I actually find it semi-hypocritical that the first criteria for this list is rings won, which is a team accomplishment, when it's an individual list. With your criteria, Mark Madsen and Luke Walton are more accomplished players than Barkley, Malone, Stockton, and Miller combined.

I do like the debate though and appreciate you starting this thread.

And your just plain wrong in picking Robert Horry over Reggie Miller. Talk about being on the right teams at the right time.

hahaha.  I was just asking a question.  let me expand my question.

what is it about today that caused you to remember a thread you wrote a year ago and made you crave more input from random degenerates?  especially at such a strange time with respect to the NBA season.

Gunners says:

wow, you're really on the defensive.  I interpret that as you admitting that you did something quite strange.

1979

#1 is Magic Johnson.  I guess he is a year before your cutoff, but no other rookie carried his team to an NBA title his first year.  Financially, the top #1 pick is Yao.  He made a fortune for the Rockets

1980
At #8, I would have Andrew Toney.  Your pick is a good one because Schrempf played 16 years, but Toney was only stopped by injury.  Boston called him the Boston Strangler for a reason.

Kiki Vadnewhege deserves consideration at #11

Jordan is a given, but McHale was pretty good at #3

1981
Rolando Blackmon at #9 was a very good pick, maybe not quite as good as Dirk...

1982
Dominique at #3.

1983
Clyde Drexler is great at #14

1984
Stockton at #16

1985
Karl Malone might be a better pick than Kobe at #13

Joe Dumars at #18

AC Green at #23

Terry Porter at #24

When did Pippen ever LEAD his team to a championship?????? The only thing Pippen ever did is ride Jordan's back to the rings he got.

Putting players with rings over better players with no rings= HUGE FAIL

You know what happens when you assume? You make an ass out of YOU but not Me.
scsiegel89 says:

And your entitled to your opinion ofcourse, but Pippen almost led his team to a title but got screwed over by the refs in the Knicks series.

Hey Matt, check out what I said to Bdubb & gunners. The same applies to you as well

Not sure how you can argue the Mailman being better than the Black Mamba. If the Mailman would have just delivered on Sundays, then maybe. But, Pippen put the hex on Karl as he hacked up both free-throws and here we are today.
Ktrain says:

The Bulls were not beating the Rockets without Jordan. Sorry to say. Like I said before Pippen, without Jordan, never did anything Sir Charles didn't do. Sir Charles took the Suns to the Finals....no excuses.

Ehhh, we'll never know about the Bulls not beating the Rockets that year, but I see where you are coming from.
