Colts-Texans Week 1 game moves 2.5 points

Really? The Texans are 2.5 favorites over Peyton? Game was a pick'em a few months back. Are people expecting Colts to start slow? They lost last year to Texans opening day and in 2008 when Peyton didn't practice with the team until a week before the regular season opener and they started 3-4.

2008 was a little different as it dealt with his knee. Yes, there was the lockout, but Peyton got in a lot of time this off-season with his WRs and o-line before he had neck surgery.

I think he will be just fine to start the season. Like always, the Texans are over-rated IMO. If they are going to make the playoffs, they need to get rid of Gary Kubiak. Wade may help their D, but I think Foster will have trouble running the ball without Leach guiding him through the holes.

Anyone else have an opinion?

The most significant change on either team is the loss of Vonta Leach at FB by Houston. Not every team's OC will employ a FB as the Texans did last year, but

it worked very effectively for Arian Foster as he surprised most football pundits by

leading the entire league in rushing yards, but he did so running behind Leach, the

best run blocker at his position, and as we all know by now, Leach was snagged by

the Ravens just last week, (meaning that Ray Rice should have a career year if he stays healthy) and the Teaxan running game should level off without Vonta Leach. Also, Foster mentioned prior to the opening of camp that he had his remarkable season on two gimpy knees which, incredible as that was, also is an indicator that he may not be

100% this season, (he is already complaining about tight hammies) and then with Andre Johnson badly dislocating a finger the first day of camp, I find a 2.5 "adjustment" in favour of Houston to be suspicious. Yes, their defence should progress under a better defensive coordinator, as the season evolves, but Houston loses an essential component to their offense that will not be replaced with any other FB. By the time the season begins in September, that line should move back to a PICK.

No Peyton, No Wins.

2 1/2 is bargain grab it while you can.

Paytons neck problem is nerve related, nerves take a long long time to heal

Payton is a girls name

they finally released the line and its texans -7

Apparently the bookmakers don't believe Peyton will be back in time to save the Colts?

thats what i was going to say, pretty sure Peyton is doubtful. He still could play tho

surprised more people aren't talking about this

Talking about what?

The Texans covering or Mannings injury?

How this line has moved 8 points towards the Texans when it opened Colts -1 in early May. Is Manning going to miss his streak of 208? Tony Dungy was recently quoted as saying the only way Manning misses week 1 is if he is dead. I have to agree with that sentiment as Manning is the most competitive SOB on the planet.

Considering all of this, there is plenty to talk about.

I dont think you can place a bet on this game until Manning's status is determine.

If he plays, Colts +7 is a steal, if he doesn't then its Texans all day.

well you are wrong. there are many books (SBG in particular) that just released this line yesterday.
earthWake says:

how does books releasing lines make me wrong?

earthWake says:
09/04/11 05:24PM

ohhhhh.

No I meant, it's not smart to place a bet on this game until Mannings status is released.

I know the line is open in this game, I just mean I wouldn't bet this game until I find out if Manning is playing

Right, but as I said earlier, I believe in what Tony Dungy said about Manning playing. Manning will be playing IMO

5 & 5 ATS last 10 is how I'd define it.

It's very close to a system I used (and made $) about the last 20 yrs.  and still apples quit often today, though I don't play it as much as I used to, I still track it.. In the NFC south, division play, not only do totals, that go either way (over or under) 1st game, goes opposite 2nd game, same with ATS, only a smaller %. Does not apply to previous season however.  It seems I have sen this theory working for a positive gain the last 5 yrs. concerning Houston/Indy (ATS only). just my 2 cents..

BOL to you all

Stay thirsty my friends...

You can still get -3 at some places.

Texans - 7 or Texans ML will be the play for me.

Peyton lost last year by 10 and he was  at full strength - without him in this game I would bet the Texans to win this game by mroe than 10

The early bird that got it at -3 were smart and ahead of the world
You know I love your colts bro, but without peyton starting this
could get ugly. Painter is going to be running for his life against that big Texans D

Houston is a great teaser play at a pick  even though I hate the mere concept of teasers..

News: CBSSports.com NFL columnist Mike Freeman said that the initial report on Colts QB Peyton Manning

that he will need an additional surgery on his neck isn't true "yet" as

of Sunday night. Initially, the radio station 1070 The Fan in

Indianapolis reported that Manning needs another surgery and is out

indefinitely. ESPN then reported that Manning is seeing additional

specialists due to the slow healing of his neck, which Freeman confirms.

But Freeman then reports that the Colts didn't believe Manning would

get another surgery. There was, however, a serious concern that Manning

was not only going to miss the season opener at Houston but the

potential was for Manning to miss four or five games or more. As Freeman

wrote, "I'm not saying this will happen, but there is a great deal of

concern about the progress of Manning's healing. It appears to be going

far more slowly than the Colts or Manning are saying publicly."

Looks like he'll be out for a while if this is true.

Tony Dungy is a TV analyst now, who makes sensatinalized statements to get attention and headlines, without a care about accuracy. Do you do all your capping from watching espn and nfl network talking heads?

Clearly believe what JMV is spouting off, or at least local fucking Indy fans who are total ignorant homers regardless (lived here my entire life).... I know Polian and Manning are VERY OPEN about EVERYTHING THEY DO .....Like I said ignorant HOMERS wanting attention ....I won't deny 100% that it could have some logical basis, but you gotta understand the sources

CBS copied the shit from JMV radio who is local sports talk here in Indy and not bad, but fans who try to think they are experts and sometimes want to create a rise from others .....

I haven't seen the MRI's and haven't spoken to the Docs, but from all indications I've seen Peyton is ready to go and this shit is Polian's way of keeping the Texans off beat. We will see in a week 1, but believing this fucking ignorance is as absurd to me as thinking Peyton won't show up week 1. The dude even had some quotes saying he wanted to decide his wk 1 fate rather than the docs, whatever, we know you guys are never up-front about shit and to think this slipped out is absolutely absurd...Run w/ it CBS and Local Radio, unfortunately when he plays you guys won't be called upon on your ignorant BullShit info since news is rarely held on a higher standard

Truly I'm a Colts fan/season ticket holder and really hope Peyton plays, but also I am not fuckin stupid enough to believe what these guys spout off. There is NO WAY, 0 CHANCE, ABSURD, CRAZY, FUCKING MORONIC, to think that either Peyton, Polian, Irsay, or any other teammate told any1 that Peyton would be out, not only would they lose their job but probably go to jail on HIPPA violations if they said Peyton wouldn't play

Hype man, keeping the Texans off-guard....Not saying I know everything, but my strongest urge is to call BULLSHIT!!!

Tweet from Adam Shefter:
Last year, no NFL starter listed as doubtful actually played. No Colts player listed as doubtful has played since 2003. Maybe there's a little more to it then trying to keep the Texans off their gaurd. Although I beleive Arian Foster is also listed as doubtful for the game.
