I think you are gathering too much on the rank of the defense. Look inside the numbers like the amount of run and passing attempts each team faced, the completion percentage, etc. Stats are skewed, but that raw data is where the real information is at.

The Steelers are only allowing teams an average 8.6 yards per reception in the playoffs. If you look at their passing defense ranking, you wouldn't have realized they tightened up on the pass.

Besides, I you really need to look at only the last 3 or so games. Teams play different in the playoffs. I don't think you can necessarily compare regular season numbers to postseason numbers. Teams get hot in the playoffs.

Just my opinion. Though I do look at the rankings through the season, I don't really use them in my handicapping. I use Covers' match-up tool to see inside the numbers.
