at what point are these dumbass players going to stop trying to cause physical harm to one another. I am sorry but there is no way you can tell me that Richard's intent was anything but to injury. This is identical to the hit on Drury, just flat out intent to injury. But when Downie did something similar to Neil and Richards he got the the book thrown at him. Difference being Downie was a rookie with a troubled past and Niel and Richards are seen as fan favorites are they respective teams.

the major difference is the state in which two guys are in when they fight. when they fight they are both ready and prepared to fight, you've see in they drop their gloves adjust their elbow pads etc., these dirty hits often see the player in defenseless postion, the player is in a position where they cannot prepare, are expecting or can defend themselves from a hit.

That's hockey though...unfortunately if you're head is down admiring a pass or something, the onus shouldn't be on the person throwing the hit to make sure that guy can see him.

I would support these rules suspensions if there was no fighting in the NHL, mandatory facemasks, etc.

Until then, these subjective hits will be ok in my opinion.  What happened if he got up and skated off or finished his shift?  I doubt anybody would have said anything.

Richards is the one who ran Fleury with one second left in the game that sparked the Hartnell biting incident.

admiring pass or not my problem is that the puck clearly left his stick and that richards took atleast three more strides after the puck left his stick to hit him, there was no reason for richards to blast booth there.

Definitely worthy of a suspension. Cant believe the NHL continues to allow stuff like this to happen. No surprise though that it was a Flyer. They've always had the culture of being a dirty team, especially when Clark was the GM and even when he played!

What was wrong with the hit??? He was not trying to hurt him. He was skating with his head down and you dont do that in the NHL. It was a clean hit and nothing wrong with it. If this hit was wrong then why a couple years back when Scott Stevens flattened Paul Karayia and he was out cold on the ice, why wasnt that wrong. Was it not wrong cause on his next shift he ripped a slapper inside the blue line for a goal. Hockey is a contact sport and there will be hits like this. When players put hits on guys when they are defenseless then they should be fined and suspended. There was no intent on richards part to hurt him. ITS HOCKEY!!!! Skate with your head down in the middle of the ice you get put on your ass. Ill bet you that player wont find himself skating with your head down anymore.
