You can argue the merits of the on side kick vs. kicking deep all day, Norv's biggest mistake was during the off season when he decided to stay with LT instead of letting him go and obtaining at least one good big healthy RB. This is in no way a bash. LT was the greatest RB anybody could ever want up until last year. But when it is gone, it is gone and that was very obvious last season.
Sproles is a great spot RB, but is way too small to carry the load. Michael Bennett had 23 carries all year so he must not be the answer either.
Some may cite Indy as a team with similar running deficiencies, but they can line up 3rd and 1 and bust Addai through there most of the time for that yard. Chargers hand off to LT on short yardage and his feet go out from under him for a loss. About the only time he gets meaningful yardage is when it is a passing situation and they run the ball. Stats look the same, but there is a world of difference to a team's offense.
I lost my ass betting this no run game at SD angle at the beginning of their streak, but it came back to bite them in the end. I was on SD this game like everybody else.
Congrats to Jets betters. Defense and the Run game have lost out in the NFL, but they sure came through yesterday.
