DORTMUND - BAYERN over 2,5 (1.75)
DORTMUND - BAYERN both teams to score: yes (1.70)
Some quick thoughts about this final.
Teams:
Bayern play on highest level this season and finished the season with a 25 point advantage. At present Bayern are superior in each team section, in defense, midfield and attack, though I would consider the Dortmund deficits rather as small ones. They have an extremely dangerous squad as well. I just like to mention absolute high class players like Reus, Lewandoski and Gündogan. Once, in case they start rolling, they can defeat each team. Within one year they managed to defeat Bayern and Real Madrid with three goal differences (5-2, 4-1)!
Stats:
Since Dortmund won the german Championship back in the season 2010/11 those teams faced each other in 9 encounters: 5 Dortmund wins, 2 draws, 2 Bayern wins. During that period Dormund won 5 consecutive games against Munich crowned with the success in the German cup final last year here in Berlin, when they simply humiliated a helplessly acting Munich squad. But Dortmund wasnt able to win in the last 4 games. Bayern won the Supercup, actually a meaningless season-opening game 2-1, followed by two 1-1 Bundesliga games and a 1-0 in the german Cup 1/4 final. 6 of those 9 games went under 2,5 goals. Bayern scored in (just) 6 of those9 games, Dormund in 8 games.
Behind those stats is a fact noone can deny. For whatever reason the Bayern dont play well against Dortmund. In those 9 games they were not able to outplay their yellow opponents just a single time...
The "Götze-factor"
No doubt a major loss for Dortmund, but Dortmund proved impressively that they can mange to keep their quality with Götze sidelined. They won the German title 2011/12 with an impressive second half series. They rallied a 3 point deficit to Munich after the winter break and finally won the championship 8 points ahead of the Bavarians. They played almoust that complete half series without Götze. Ok, they had a strong Kagawa in the squad. But now the have Reus playing on the same level as Kagawa. And that season ended with that famous Dortmund cup final 5-2 win I already mentioned, which showed Götze on the bench all game long. Likely Reus will replace Götze in the center of midfield. Looks like that will see 9 of those Dortumd players tomorrow who were able to destroy Bayern last year. S. Bender (instead of Kehl) and Reus (instead of Kagawa).
The final-factor.
Bayern as big favs have all to lose in that game, Dortmund as underdog nothing. Several Bayern players and officials already stated that this season would be a horrofying one, if they failed against Dortmund tomorrow despite winning the German title and most likely the German Cup against Stuttgart next Saturday. The lost finals against Inter Mailand in 2010 and especially against against (lucky) Chelsea last year on homeground at Munich are quite a burden as well the Bayern have to carry.
The atmosphere at Wembley will be kind of similiar to that German Cup-final I mention for the third time now:). Half of the crowd will be Bayern and Dortmund fans, the other half normally tends to support the underdog: So maybe kind of certain home advantage for Dortmund...
All that said my conclusion is to go better on goals. The under 2,5 tendency in those last 9 games doesnt scare me at all. For the last time I mention that 5-2 cup final in Berlin. Both teams played attacking football then and I expect to see a similiar kind of game. tomorrow night. In addition to that Dortmund scored in 8 of the last 9 games against Bayern and I think it is more likey they will score tomorrow than they wont. The marvelous and seemingly unstoppable Bayern should be able to find the net 2 or 3 times. Only thing which concerns me is the possibílty that Klopp could field three denfensive midfielders trying to stop the expected bavarian attacks. In fact he tried something like that in the Cup game against Bayern this February in Munich. It didnt work too well. Dortmund lost 1-0 and just had 2 shots on goal. So I think Klopp will stick to the regular 4-2-3-1 system.
Possible results: 2-1, 3-1 Bayern or 2-2.
Goooo Bayern gooooo!!!
