I was recently thinking, WOW, none of my favorite sports teams (minus the LA sparks, but I don't think that counts since I've never seen a game in person) have ever won a TITLE. Then i thought... there is virtually NO WAY, i will see all of them win a title in my lifetime. I am 22 right now, so assuming I live another 70 years (i hope) i still don't think its conceivable to hope for 6 championships....
My teams:
NY Rangers- NHL is always competitive, so I like to think any year, 15 or so NHL teams can win a Stanley Cup, giving me some hope here.
Miami Dolphins- The NFL is similar, it's hard to imagine Miami not being very competitive in the next 10 years or so, have to think there will at least be opportunities.
NY Mets- God knows..... but they will spend, so I am willing to bet they aren't like the pirates :)
Seattle Sonics (RIP) Yes, I know they don't exist anymore, but one would have to assume NBA returns to Seattle in the next 20 years, and NO, an OKC title does NOT count, and if they ever do win, it will hurt, BADLY. The Thunder are my least favorite team in the NBA.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL) - BY FAR my favorite team of all my favorites, a Calder Cup Championship will be the pinnacle of my life, and having already been to the finals 3 times in their first 10 years of existence, I like to think I could be seeing this title in the next 10 years.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (RIP) (Arena Football)- The team folded after last year, but moreso went dormant as a buyer wasn't located. With the "new" AFL coming into existence this year I believe football will return to the Mohegan Sun Arena next year, and the team always put a fantastic product out so once a team returns, I sense a title within 5 years.
Anyone's thoughts on these?? If there were odds, what would you say all 6 win a title before I die is??
Im thinking: all 6 titles: +650 OR all active teams having a title +500
Well, as suspected the Greek totals were way off, and Sportsbook.com has win totals that look more realistic.
Initial Leans:
Mets OVER 81 (-130) Hate the juice here, but think they are atleast a .500 team
Red Sox UNDER 94.5 wins This is a TON of wins for a team fighting the Yankees all season.
Phillies UNDER 92.5 wins The Phils know how to turn it on in the postseason, I don't see them as even close to a lock to even get to 90 wins....
AL WEST: Seattle OVER 82.5 wins (-130), Texas UNDER 83.5 wins (even) No way I bet both of these as I think they either BOTH happen or BOTH go the opposite way.... I hit the texas over EASILY last year, but don't think that the Rangers can put up the same type of banner year they had in 2009.
Some other interesting ones that I almost definitely WONT touch are: Pitt 69 wins, this team hasnt hit 70 in forever, but its hard to see them dismantling the team like they did last season... Washington at 70.5 wins is tough too, i know they are better but if they trade players away in July this total may be tough to hit. Florida looks good on the under at 81 wins, i think when they are out of it in the Summer they may dump some players, if so I think they finish 4th and hit mid 70's.
Still a ton of time, but looking to take 3 teams by the start of the season. Thoughts and advice are always appreciated
As the MLB season approaches, my favorite thing to do is bet a few season win/loss totals with fairly large amounts for myself, to essentially limit the # of individual games I bet by having 3 teams to root for or against each day.
I've seen some opening #'s on The Greek, which may or may not be set in stone... but one of them jumps out BIG TIME to me.
The Mets are not even CLOSE to a 90 win team, so their 89.5 win total seems absurd to me. Then again, i am a Mets fan...
So the question looms... do I bet the under 89.5 wins (if this in fact is the total, I will bet it on 5dimes) and cheer against my team all season, or do i just avoid it completely as i will be torn throughout the season on who to cheer for???
Other early #'s that I like: (I will bet 3 teams by the start of seaon)
Nationals OVER 65.5 wins
Rockies OVER 79.5 wins
Indians UNDER 83.5 wins
These numbers all seem off to me, so it'll be interesting to see what is released as the season gets closer.
Hey guys, going to start blogging in 2010, really making some big changes to my life. Just about to complete my internship with an NHL team with 2 semesters to go in college. Fought a severe battle with depression over the past year mostly dealing with an ex.. was pretty brutal but finally eliminated them from my life and have been doing great!!!!!
Going to start keeping my record on posts as well as periodically on here. Hope it is a profitable year for everyone!!!! This last week of NFL football is one of the strangest with blowouts and starters sitting that I can remember in recent years. Going to relax tonight with some college hoops, SNF and the USA/Sweden world juniors game, gonna be a great night :)
Starting to play poker again, the focus hasn't been there since I started my downward spiral in life but figuring I am mentally tough enough to start playing with some focus (not that it necessarily helps!!) and decided to play on Pokerstars... starting out real small but hope to get back playing decently. Maybe win some money and take my future BF (who knows when thatll happen) to vegas???
Alright, hope everyone else is having as good a first 3 days to 2010 as I have. Look forward to hearing from everyone!!!!
